View Full Version : Intermittent in game freezing.

Just wondering if anyone else is/was experiencing the same problem I've been getting recently. I've seen a few people around Google having this issue, but no fix.

Ever since the latest patch (UT2004 build 3369?) I have been getting intermittent freezing in game, both online and offline. It happens in all game modes. I've also tried removing all the game files, reinstalling from fresh, then installing the mega pack (patch 3369 + all the addon maps).

When a match starts, the first 3 minutes play fine. Then the game freezes the computer up for 30 seconds or so. If I spam CTRL+ALT+DEL I eventually get the Windows Security box, and can continue or terminate.

After this freeze up is over, the game runs fine for another minute, then freezes again. Eventually I get annoyed, close the game, and play Sven Co-op instead.

I have tried this on both the x86 and x64 binaries, and both in windowed and fullscreen modes. My drivers are up to date.

Specifications
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4800+
Corsair XMS 1GB PC3200 (x4)
ASUS nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition SP2
A sweet mouse.

Damn annoying, because we've been playing this a lot at university in the gaming labs, and we want to continue at home too :D

Update

After testing with ZenMaster, we determined the problem is when using Direct3D rendering mode. No freezing occured in software rendering mode.

Fixed BTW. Changed to OpenGL renderer. I didn't think the D3D 8/9 ones would be so shakey.
