Privacy is overrated. Especially if you're a deep sleeper.

Hi, i have a query..

I've never been to an xmas slan, AND i've never camped outside a week before xmas, so a question occured to me....

Is there likely to be snow in Stratford between 14-17th? Am i going to be setting up my poor little tent in 2 inches of wet and cold evil? I hate snow, with a fiery passion, so i worry about these things.

Baroness

Forego intercourse for one weekend. DO NOT CAMP. You will die. Even if it isn't a particularly cold December, you *will* die.

Ruth
19th November 2007, 10:29
Oh my god!

That post actually filled me with fear!

wtf!? Why would i die!? Is it really that cold?! Perhaps i will sleep inside then...

Holy crap, im afraid!

I realise how sarcastic this post sounds, but its actually sincere...Im terrified of being cold

Quietus
19th November 2007, 10:32
Clearly the solution is to bring a hot water bottle.

Ryvita
19th November 2007, 10:39
Worst I remember was a cold I-series when there was crackly ice on the inside of my tent and top of sleeping bag. It was so cold it woke me up at about 5, despite 4 season bag, plus blankets plus jumpers etc. I returned to the grandstand and turned my pc around to blow warm air at me (An unrecognised upside to overclocking!) and read webcomics whilst shivering 'till the sun came up. I caught some sort of chill and i couldn't keep food down for a couple of days. :(

Tenting in December would require at least one of: good luck with the temperatures, specialist equipment, multiple warm bodies to share your tent with, an exceedingly thick beer overcoat and a very high constitution check (natural 20).

I dont think a hot water bottle'll be enough tbh.... I'm the kind of woman who just absolutely despises being cold....Even though i permanently am cold....My mam says im cold blooded, i have to wear two coats in the winter cos i get to bloody frozen.

Anyway yeah, tenting doesnt seem like a good plan now....

No chance I'll be camping, not after seeing snow yesterday. Maybe some glow in the dark signs directing people to the toilets from the sleeping area would be useful though!

Hold on, hold on... you wear a face mask in bed? haha
I expect a little more overcrowding due to the additional spaces opening up and cold weather. If your camping it might be possible to shelter yourself from the wind by pitching up where the BBQ is usually held.

Baroness
19th November 2007, 14:10
Rooth, I, like you, hate being cold. I just find that no matter what 'rules' you follow and however 'correctly' you do the camping thing (right sleeping bag, etc etc) I am just frozen!

I slept in the car one December i-series, and woke up at 6am and was actually sick from the cold. Not awesome, I don't recommend it.

This is quite correct. One Sleeping bag + duvet + world of pillows = nest :awesome:

That said, its too bloody cold to go outside at 4am and upstairs is nice and warm :D:

Yes, the exit light is annoyingly bright and due to going to bed late (i.e. not be a pussy and go before 12) I usually end up trying to sleep with the sun up.

Baroness
19th November 2007, 20:04
I must get one of these - can't sleep when the sun's up and it's too bright.

Are you and I the same person? ;) Dispising of cold and desire for facemasks...

I've fancied getting one for a while now, ive moved into my cousins and there is a street lamp right outside my window, it drives me mad when im trying to sleep....My room is just constantly lit :fist:

i use a t shirt resting over my head and eyes for some reason, also keeps your noggin warm :P

(i too have a streetlight right outside my window, except its not on a street, more of a path light, maybe even a snicket light, possibly a ginnel light)

pps. it is orange.

I'm probably going to camp.

I'll also be taking a copy of Dickens "Our Mutual Friend" to read before bed.

Mum's room was lit quite brightly by a street light, as her curtains were light-coloured. So what she did, was to get a sheet of thick cloth and cut it to the window size, she sewed a pole into the top, and then put 3 curtain rings (middle and the 2 ends) into the fabric where the pole was. Then she put 3 hooks into the wall above the window, tadaa! No more street light!

i slept in tent at a slan, camping stove + mini kettle = hot water bottle. At an i-series i slept in another guys tent and woke in the morning to find half the tent missing with 2 inchs of snow on it.

Best thing is having other bodies in your tent, though it really does depend what sort of tent. In this weather it is VITAL to have an inflatable matress and lots of padding, then insert self + hot water bottle into a sleeping bag.

My objection to upstairs is that i just cant sleep with snoring :D

Also last time someone vommed in the sleeping area.

Tsung

iAlso last time someone vommed in the sleeping area.

No last time someone decided the toilets were too far away and used a corner of the room as his personal toilet. Disgusting .. Oh and if I see/hear anyone doing it at this event I will remove them from the room myself.

Upon saying that the attendance this time around appears to be mainly Old Skool people, so I expect no trouble what so ever.

I will be camping as per usual... Nothing can be as cold as that cold morning of i-something, when I got out of my tent, to find 2 inches of snow infront of me :) If I can survive that I can survive anything ;)
