Oh hi there...
Well I have a tech problem with the network at work. (its a really small business, so Exe and I have rigged up a small wireless network for them)
So after the other day when the wireless card in the main computer decided to have a blonde moment and not work. I uninstalled it, rebooted and it sorted itself out. Buuuuuuuuuut the network sharing went tits up. So today I fixed it by doing all the usual stuff.
So my problem is all but one computers have XP, and they all communicate and share files fine. But one laptop has Vista, and shares the internet connection, but wont see the other computers in the workgroup on the network. Basically its a snob! haha

So anyone know a fix to make it play ball with the other pooters?
And to answer the question that you are thinking - why dont I ask Exe? He's in the middle of nowhere in Texas training for 6 weeks, with basically no way of me getting hold of him. So help would be gratefully received.

hmmm how sttttranngeee. running several vista + xp machines here not had an issue :S

So lets narrow down the issue.

1. All machines on same domain (vista throws wobbly somtimes because of this, who knows why)?

2. in vistas oh so fun network sharing centre thing, is everything switched on?

should have at least file and printer sharing on, i also have network discovery and all of them on really lol but my shares are passworded :)

3. does it ping? can you ping from the xp - vista machine?

4. ARE YOU RUNNING THE SPAWN OF SATAN NORTON?

if so then norton most likly is your culprit, try uninstalling then reinstalling if it works without it on :P

ummm thats all i can think of at the moment, its waaayy to early to be thinking.

have you turned off IPv6 in vista?

i've found this can help with odd problems.

I'll bet if you put \\Computer Name into the run it'll find it. Hella wierd thing I get most times networking xp + vista. It's there, just doesn't show in My network places. I doing it atm, Vista folder shows on the XP pc but not vice-versa. I done it 7 times and twice it's worked flawlessly, but no idea what I did different.

Danke, I shall try to play with it hopefully on monday if Jim brings his laptop in. Other than that everything is still working fine. Thankfully.
The worst thing I've found, is that seeing as both Exe and myself work with Mac's now, windows is very foreign to me now.
