View Full Version : How awesome is 2.3 going to be?

How awesome is the next content patch (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/testrealm.html) going to be!
Just a few examples:
Zul'Aman
Zul'Aman is a 10-player, level 70 outdoor instance located in the Ghostlands. Players will be able to confront six new bosses including the Forest Troll Warlord Zul'jin.
Guild Banks
The Guild Bank is a shared repository for an entire guild and will be accessible through Guild Vault objects near existing banks. The Guild Bank will allow players with the appropriate permissions to store items and money for use by the rest of the guild.
Permissions to withdraw and deposit money and items are controlled by the guild leader through the guild controls menu.
The Guild Bank is divided up into separate tabs so that the guild leader may restrict access or group items into distinct categories.
Up to 6 purchasable tabs each containing 98 item slots
Permissions to view/deposit/withdraw per tab
You may use your Guild Bank withdraw limits to pay for item repairs (now enabled on all merchants)
Transaction logs of the last 50 actions in the bank viewable on a per tab basis
Faster levelling 20-60
The amount of experience needed to gain a level has been decreased between levels 20 and 60. In addition, the amount of experience granted by quests has been increased between levels 30 and 60.
Many elite creatures and quests in the level 1-60 experience have been changed to accommodate solo play.
Better instances
The Requirement for Heroic Keys has been lowered to Honored
All old world dungeon bosses have had their loot revisited. Players will now find that the loot dropped inside instances will be of Superior quality
Level 1-60 dungeon quests have had their experience and faction rewards increased.
Good news for mages!
(NEW SPELL) Ritual of Refreshment available on trainers at level 70. Makes manabiscuits for EVERYONE (no more making 20 stacks of water/food)
Improved Fireball: The reduction in damage coefficient caused by this talent has been removed. Finally un-nerfing this.
2.3 is going to be ace.

But I prefered 1-70 (60) than to actually hitting 70.
Now it won't take as long = less fun :(
But this makes it a bit nicer I suppose.

Maybe i might come back... Finish off leveling that Druid I had... Now all they need to add is housing :).. Does this mean that if the amount of XP needed is lower, then everybody between 20-60 will get a free level or two when the patch is applied?.

They mentioned this in the forum.
If you are 50% to go now, you'll be 50% to go after the patch, but obviously needing less to get 100%.
So it's a percentage conversion, not a value conversion.

My rogue gets a buff and I can finally keep up with sword spec rogues in PvE!!! Mace spec will be the way forward (I hope).
Zul Aman is just going to be a glorified Zul Gurub imo - meh again it will be another farming zone - gotta beat Karazhan in all honesty!
Guild Banks will be cool aswell, doesnt the new mage manawell thingy have to use 2 arcane dust everytime?

mace spec still won't keep up with swords even with the 5% critical strike damage buff, the same for daggers with the 6% backstab damage buff. The problem is swords are simpler to play and you can have much better rotations with them. However, it'll be nice to see some buffs for the other specs, even if they stay behind swords :) (i r rogue too)
The thing i'm most looking forward to will be Zul'Aman to be honest, we've just got 3/4 in TK, and still only have 1 boss down in SSC. Our guild seems to have a few noobs whom only have a half idea how to play so we still can't get morogrim down, or Hydross. Lurker is easy, but then he always was. I'm looking forward to being able to relax in a 10 man again for a little bit, with knowing that im playing with the good people from the guild rather than the tards :)
One interesting thing is if the Retri paladin's changes will help them get any places in raids now, they always did okay-ish DPS (nothing compared to a fury warrior, or rogue but meh) their main problem was massive threat issues, because of their inconsistent DPS (big burst damage).
The only thing for the guild banks is the predicted costs look pretty insane.

Only if your guild stores every single item that ever drops. It's 1g for the first 98 slots, then 10g for another 98, and 100g for another 98. After that it starts to get silly, but thats still nearly 300 bank slots for 111g?. I can't really see a need for most guilds to use more than the second lot.
Not a huge fan of the nerf to arcane spec for mages (45second Mystical Skyfire Diamond), it's currently good fun, and needing to respec each patch to get the best pve build is starting to get tiresome. At least patches have a long time between them now.
Ritual of refreshment looks useful, and 2 arcane dusts hardly a huge cost.

What about an alt char guild bank :P
All it would take is 10 alt chars to sign a 10g charter (each of them chars has 18? slots) then they have a guild bank and with 111g they have another 300 slots.
Which = 480 slots for 121g (assuming all alts in the 'alt guild' are bank chars without additional bag space.
On top of that you have all the alt guids actual bags and for a mere few hundred g more you could equip each of them chars with additional bag/bank space.
Literally thousands of bank slots for about 500g :D

i'll agree with this if/when they actually announce a date. the "every 12 months" thing looks pretty unlikely at the moment. i'll guess 2.3 will release in november, 2.4 early next year, and they haven't said that's where tbc patches stop. then any buildup to wrath will begin, and will take a few months at least.

Isn't all the gear "useless" anyway? You're always working towards personal satisfaction, not the item that you'll retire on.

Many elite creatures and quests in the level 1-60 experience have been changed to accommodate solo play.
This might get me subscribing again...
I'm not too bothered about the faster levelling, but previously I just ran out of stuff I wanted to do - and didn't play enough to get decent groups for harder instances.

I haven't even bothered to add up the numbers but has anyone actually worked out how many badges you are going to need for the set you want?
I am guessing 3-4 badges per heroic run and you will need around 200 - 250 badges for all the things you need. You're going to be there a long time :/
And this is why i stopped playing - what a waste of time.

WoW was the single largest waste of time of my life to date. I played a shaman to 70 and raided him up to the end of T5 content. I acheived nothing.
xfire says 2300 hours of wow in the past year (96 days) in one year!
I played CSS for 300 hours since 2004, still a waste of time but nothing like the sheer amount you have to put into wow to get anywhere.

it's unlikely most people are going to want EVEYTHING. I'm of only average gear and there's only 2-3 items i want.
They drop in kara and ZA from 2.3 so there's 15 a week right there - that you wont even notice if you're raiding anyway.
The heroics are all pretty much unlocked for everyone now so you can do one of those per night per dungeon, if you did say 4 heroics per week - which many people will do - that's another 12-15.
That's about 30 badges a week for someone who is playing a fair amount - 5 or so nights per week. They'll be able to afford what they want in no time at all.
The point you seem to be making is that the enjoyment people get out of the game is buying epic gear?
It's not, people play it because they enjoy doing the dungeons, the raids and PvP - the gear is just a good way of allowing you to continue to progress as you do this.
I want to get better gear so I can play the harder instances, not so that i can look at myself on the armory and go "wow... nice purplz"
If they took away the need for good gear to do the end game content then we might as well all type "IMPULSE 9" and be done with it...

discussions like this make me wonder why some people play some games, although i recognise that different people have fun in different ways. if you've got to run heroic instances X times (finding it boring/not fun) before you can afford a piece of armour and then start having your fun, and not having fun in the process then i think you're playing the wrong game

no that's my point - I do enjoy doing the instances, the tokens are not why im doing them.
Once i have the tokens and have better gear I can then move onto doing harder instances, but to get there means playing the earlier ones.
It's no different than playing the first level of Quake with the intent on getting to the last level.

Yes it is entirely to go further in the game, you need to maximise your classes ability. The problem is that is does become boring and it stops being enjoyable. After doing the same dungeon for the x time i (personally) find it tedious as its the same stuff. It is also frustrating when it all goes wrong and you end up wasting time.
If you enjoy doing the same encounter again and again then all power to you and have fun with it. I find the scripted nature of the entire game predictable and tedious. By adding in the neccessary repetition of these scripted components you turn the game (for me) into a boring time sink.
Just to point out that i also consider end game content the same and i was playing in a very active raiding guild when i quit.

Culture, scripted content on farm is the reason I avoid raiding entirely. I've been through years of end game content and eventually your just going through the motions day, after day, after day. The only challenging aspect of the game left for me is Arena. That and leveling an alt are the only enjoyment I'm getting out of the game at the moment.
I don't think this game has done much for the mpuk community, other then bring out the worst in people.

oooh, I didn't realise that this patch includes enabling the game to spread across multiple cores (dual/quad core CPU etc.)
I wondered why Shattrah no longer slowed down to **** :p

bootz, as if you ever pop out of shadowform to cast fear ward!
I have to say, I'm going to avoid the official forums more than ever. Why? Hunters got some joy this patch. Aimed shot that reduces healing done for a time, arcane shot that dispels magical buffs on a target. Dead zone reduced to almost nothing.
What happens? Hunters bitch about being unable to trap two or three (if survival) targets at once.

For those priests out there.... Does fear ward/heals cancel shadow form and instantly start healing like healing when in bear form instantly takes you out of the form and starts casting heals?

This.
ZA is challenging enough to be interesting, but doesn't seem to be so hard that you feel like you're hitting your head against a brick wall.
Mailing multiple items at a time = win.
Tracking all on one button round the mini-map and able to track *useful* things like repair vendors, etc = win.
1 hour long temporary weaon enchantments (poisons, wizard oil, etc) = win
No more Blinding powder \o/

Don't listen to Cyphus.
He's not worth your time.
In other news the best thing about this patch is that it didn't break ALL OF MY ADDONS.
Thank the lords.
The second best thing is that in my healing gear I now have a world of spell damage.
Third best thing is water shield = a silly 10mana/5.
Also that gyrocopter = awesome.

Yes it brings you out of shadow and starts the cast.
Also shadow priests can now use noggen (skeleton) and deviate delight costumes, and still be in shadow :D <3 Shadow ninja!!!

woo gyrocopter. wish i had epic one though :(
Changes have been useful for buffing, although nerfing kael'thas has meant a guild full of tards on my server killed him the day after =\
hunters can also not now drink in boss enounters, FD has been nerfed

I can't fault 2.3. I keep finding undocumented changes they added to make my life easier.
For instance I decided to level Polearms and the weapon skill level drastically increased to match the mob I was hitting. An increase of about 190 weapon skill in seconds.

the sparkle effect on quest items and herbs, mines etc makes life easier
the "track..." option is AWESOME. No longer do I have to go around finding the nearest repair vendor, reagent seller or whatever - i can just track it on the map.
The hover-over icons are also v helpful

Certainly made my life easier. Enjoying the patch hugely so far, it's the smaller changes that have supplied the biggest reward i think.

the only change so far that i've thought is a bit odd is that fear no longer has any effect on aggro, so if your tank gets caught off guard or your horde priests haven't quite got used to the presence of fear ward or the alliance priests haven't adapted to having a proper cooldown on fear ward then you could be in for a bumpy ride.
not sure yet whether this is a deliberate change or a bug; if it's deliberate i suppose it's just going to take a couple of tweaks to playstyle - notably that pve priests should start speccing unbreakable will since it won't get them killed anymore and may well prevent a raid wipe if they resist an aoe fear and heal the tank while everyone else is running around screaming...
EDIT: yes I know now that it's a deliberate, noted change. now i've thought about it more it's one that I welcome

Mages
Cold Snap (Frost) cooldown reduced. It is now in the Ice Block position in the talent tree. This ability will no longer reset the cooldown on Fire Ward.
Conjure Mana Gem (Rank 6 - Emerald) now restores 1800 to 3000 mana and has three charges.
Ice Block (Frost) is now available on the trainer to all mages at level 30.
Icy Veins (NEW Frost Talent) decreases casting time of all spells by 20% and increases the chance your chilling effects will freeze the target by 25%. Lasts 20 sec. 3 min cooldown. It is now in the Cold Snap position in the talent tree.

No, he's saying that his previous statement of "best patch ever" is wrong. Because ice mages are getting a massive buff soon, the next patch will be the best patch ever. :) He's right too. Ice spec for the win!
