Ok - simple setup

NTL Connection with a modem not set top box.
Two laptops.
One Linksys Wireless G Router

Ive had this working for about a year and my brother went away and turned everything off. When he turned it back on - it didnt work!
Now as I remember I had it set to a static IP - with it pointing to the modem as the gateway, unfortunately I forget exactly what I had put in!

Joey pointed out it should all work with DHCP if you unplug the modem and then let it assign the routers IP ect. Which voilia! It worked! Alas - still no internet thru the wireless tho. Everything seemed to add up with regards to addresses - but as said - no internet! Anyone any ideas? This has me stumped for about 3 days now =/

I know this sounds dumb but have you reset the modem?

When ever i change something or turn off my router i normally have to reset the modem to get net working again.

edit: by reset i mean power off and power back on.

From what I remeber when my sister had this sort of setup, if they was a probelm you had to power both devices off, power on the cable modem and wait for that to come to a ready state, then turn on the wifi router.

Or it was the other way round, turn the wifi on first then the cable box.

just to check as i have had problems many times like this.

go to http://192.168.100.1/ (should be your modem config address)

Go to configuration and check what your Frequency (Hz) is. Sometimes the modems seem to set a wrong freq when starting up.. had this problem maybe 3 times in the last 3-4 years.

The correct one for me is 331000000(it would get set as 33000000 missing the extra 1). I dont know if it differs in location but everyone i have helped out on cable also had this correct freq.

Worth a shot to check it out :)
