Don't know if anyone else has had a phonecall from Tesco, but they offered me the choice of full-price or cancel the order.

Same here, I thought that once they accepted the order that was into contract law and they where obliged to honor it, is that not the case?

I think it's only once they've taken your money, which they don't until shipment.

Covered this when i did contract law- basically Tescos can change the offer etc until the item has been delivered- so any mistake made by them on price can be corrected without loss of profit.

Interesting my account on the item still shows the original price, so I assume they will still only debit this about.

If they have taken your payment, it's too late... delivery/shipping is irrelevent.

Usually an order is not binding until you receive a response in robust form.

Currently email is still not considered robust, only something like a printed receipt or bill/quote received either in the mail, fax, or in person is so deemed.

Websites all run currently under the principal of "invitation to treat" which basically states that you don't have to sell to everyone. However the caveat emptor in this instance is one of terminology. Placing items in your basket in a "bricks and mortar" shop is the same as placing them in a basket on line. Proceeding to checkout isn't. This goes back to a transaction needing a robust medium to constitute a sale of goods contract.
