View Full Version : Cheap Airsoft Equipment

For those of you who may have liked the idea of Airsoft, but considered investing in equipment too expensive for something that would see relatively little use, have a look at this website:
RSOV (http://www.rsov.com)
Courtesy of the Chinese Industrial Revolution (for want of a better description), clones of the big Airsoft brand equipment are now being made at nearly 100% of the original quality, at well under 50% of the original cost. Well worth a look :)

Once they start going Chinese Revolution on paintball equiptment prices, then I'll be a happy bunny.
£600-£800 for a decent marker does get silly after a while...

TM's AEG's rock, however I am not a fan of thier pistols. I prefer the real metal reps from the guys at KJW. Prop in the summer, Green in the winter keeps them in tippy top.

TM's are the standard for consistency. The vast majority of cheapsoft AEG's (especially those from Jing Gong) are rivalling, and in some areas improving on Tokyo Marui.
For example, £100 including postage gets you a gun shooting at 330fps. Good for those who want the extra power without the hassle of upgrading.
Unless you take my stance - if you can't hit them, get closer ;).
As for your comment about the gas Cabe, Green Gas IS propane. It's completely identical - as this proves. (http://www.airsoft-innovations.com/lab1.html) So if you obtain a converter, you can use your gas guns more economically, if you can put up with the smell.

I have a gen one adapter I bought years ago :) Those canadian boys have tarted their website since the last time I looked at it.
From playing experience the aerosoled lubes they put into green gas makes it play better in the winter. During the summer I do infact play with the reccomended butane/propane torch gas, I use a medium can per summer season usually, although with the wet weather I havnt been out at all this year :(

I sold my gas shotgun for that very reason, not enough abient heat to use it effectively. And I was fed up of using my AEG's, so I bought a Maruzen APS2 :)

I used to play at Urban Assault regularly for 4 months or so round about Christmas time, until I fell out with the group that I played with. It's a good site, but personally I don't like the 400fps limit on snipers.
As for licenses Screwball, nope this is a completely legal activity. The only thing to bear in mind is that the police will treat these as real firearms should you use them in the wrong way, eg: robbing a post office with one. But keeping them covered up and using them on private property, that's fine.

Well for anyone who is interested there is plenty of information on the net regarding the VCRA Bill, and Airsoft's exemption from it.

One comment I'll make about the M4 varient you have chosen, is that it has a Crane Stock, and as such requires crane stock batteries. And considering this is cheapsoft, a brand new crane stock battery will cost you as much as the gun. So your best option is to buy something which takes either mini batteries (like the standard m4a1), or large batteries (solid stock m16).
If you want a compact gun, I would recommend the Jing Gong W733, a direct clone of the M733 rifle. Nice and small, but an excellent gun none the less.
As for the pistol, well I can't comment too much as I havn't owned a KJW pistol of that type. But I will say that I have owned three Tokyo Marui pistols now (desert eagle, P226 and a 1911), and they performed solidly in the field.
Whatever you do, don't buy Western Arms pistols if it's your first time. They won't meet your expectations, and out of the box you can't use Green Gas in them, as they will break sooner.
Jamz

SprayCan

With the intention of putting the solid stock onto that rifle? I suppose you could, but it would ruin the look of the gun! A CQB-solid stock version? :-P

Jams, I have the m92 from KJW its a great feeling weapon and performs well in my book.
I run it on Propane most of the time although you do need to lube the mags properly or the seals go and leak all the gas. I would recommend taking the seals out getting a 100% silicon lube spray and leave the seals in a plastic bag overnight before you use them. I will try and get the tutorial for you.

Jamz, on the left hand side of the RSOV website is a list of all cheapsoft manufacturers. Right at the very top is 'JG - Jing Gong'. Click on that, and it'll filter the view for you - two or so pages of guns made by them. As I said, I recommend the W733.

ie. would you be able to him someone with a sniper rifle 200-300m away?
Mastacheif
12th July 2007, 21:30
what kandy said and are they all plastic
SprayCan
12th July 2007, 21:58
OK:
1. At the end of the day, these are toys. You arn't going to get real-life velocities or ranges out of them. UK law allows a maximum muzzle velocity of 328 feet per second on all fully-automatic replicas. In distance, that works out to about 120-130 feet. Single shot bolt-action rifles are permitted up to 500fps, giving a rough distance of 200 feet (between 80 and 90 metres) at the most. But honestly, when your out there shooting people it's much more fun :).
2. It depends what company you buy from. Tokyo Marui, and the cheapsoft companies who have based their guns on TM designs have plastic bodies, with an amount of metal content (for example, the m4a1 has a metal front-end, but a plastic body). Other companies, like ICS and Classic Army (along with the cheapsoft companies who copy them) have full metal bodies. But the long and short of it is, TM is the standard for reliability. At the end of the day, would you rather carry a plastic gun that is going to work and doesn't weigh much, or a full-metal gun that weighs a lot more, and is far more prone to breaking down (plus costs a LOT more)?
Mastacheif
12th July 2007, 22:01
I c ok.... that helps thanks.
I figure regular airsoft is a good fitness excercise, i can understand the rifle functionality of plastic but would prefer metal pistols / mini SMG's as secondary. It does seem an expensive intial startup i should perhaps visit a site first and try it out before i go spending £500+ on kit.

Definately your best option. Some sites have a one-hit-dead policy, where the first time you are hit, you're out for the rest of the game.
Other sites however, like my local, have a 'dead zone' policy. When your hit, back to your deadzone. The second you get back, you're allowed back into the game. In this sort of environment, you may well find that a secondary weapon isn't really needed.
So if you want to try out Airsoft for the first time, you may be better off visiting your local site, and enquiring about renting a gun for the day. Most sites offer a package that's relatively good value for money, especially compared to a single day of Paintball!

I really don't think renting is a good idea for trying it out - borrow a mate's gun for a day and try it for a couple of hours in a few games. Rental guns are usually old Tippy 98's or Infernos, which are cheap and easy to repair, but don't shoot consistently and due to being set at velocities of around 190-220, they usually whiz off in another direction before getting too close. Paintball even though similar to airsoft, is quite different due to legal velocity settings (tournament laws are maximum of 300, and sites around 270-285) and balls tend to be slower and not as much travel as pellets from an air rifle or bb gun. Which is why the brightly coloured guns and jerseys, along with tightly packed playing areas, are more common within paintball than woodsy play. :):
Though paintball markers are MUCH more expensive than high range bb guns - I'm not too sure why, but there's probably a reason. (decent high range marker = £700+, i *think* high range replicas are around £150-£400.)

The shotguns look awesome!!! Face full of BB's anyone?
Also are they metal or plastic BB? Can you use metal?
SprayCan
13th July 2007, 09:50
No, all BB's in airsoft are plastic. You cannot use metal bb's as they are far too heavy. But primarily, your just not allowed to.
Shotguns are overrated - anyone with an AEG will win against a shotgun player hands down, unless they are extremely skilled (and get lucky).

My bad - 2 in the morning and I got the word "paintball" in there confused with you actually pointing out to go to a paintball site to see what it's like. Shows how much sleep I need... :):
And on a relative note, unless airsoft comes up with one of these (http://www.armoredfistpaintball.com/images/Events/Bear%20Claw%20Kursk%202005/BC-Kursk-05_panther-paintball-tank_c3_0013.jpg), I'll be staying with paintball. :D:

A little shop I like to go to because it sells my two favourite things, loud speakers and guns.. www.victormorris.com has a notice that they have to stop selling all replicas/blanks
steel BB/pellet pistols and rifles until they get a VCR licence or something (comes into enforcement on 1 Oct)..
but... the reason Im telling you this.
As of 1 Oct all Airsoft guns (in Scotland at least) have to be easily distinguishable from real guns, this means bright coloured guns!
Ive just bought a Walther CP99 because, this is the last chance I have to legaly own one and.. the sale prices in Victor Morris (because he cant sell guns till the new licence comes though) are realllly cheap!
You might be able to get some really cheap stuff for your hobby there because the sale is about 70% off ;) weapons/ammo/armour/guns.
