Isn't that a little desperate and slightly sad?

Running an event for your players isn't a good thing? Good to reward your loyal players. Plus it makes a big event where the game is busy and everyone is happy to be playing. Makes for a fun weekend.

So, no I don't think it's either sad nor desperate.

Ok working along the event theme, don't you think changing a value in a database from 1 to 2 is a little bit of a cop out as mmo events go?

Sorry if I appear to be trolling

Not at all, it's not about the dev's taking part. It's more about getting people online. Leveling in COH is good fun, but everyone wants that next power and to get a bit more money.

The whole idea being that this will draw more people online. The more people online the easier it is to get a team and thus everyone has more fun. There is a on the whole a very strong and pretty decent community in COH so these events are opportunities for people to get together and play.

Not to mention that they are very rare. It's not like Guild Wars where an event occurs every two weeks or so. So people really seize upon the opportunity.

I've never played CoH and I never will. Silly game bandwagons.

Join Eve, pew pew

The game of macromining and soon to be ISXEVE (which by default makes gate camping pointless).

Yep, join EVE - the only MMORPG client written in Python and therefore has more holes (yes even more than WoW) than any other MMO client.

And that's leaving out the fact that they spend more time going on about how the developers don't cheat than any other company.

Prefer Intensive weekend XP grinding? I guess it's down to what fits you, I played wow until it started to feel like a hollow endeavor that demanded more time than I felt it could ever warrant, I packed it in and picked up eve again, which seems more my pace of game, one you can dip in and out of even when you're not playing it you can be progressing. Not a game you can jump right into with the biggest ships and guns though. Not tried company of heroes, although the appeal of super powers etc did seem marginally alluring.

My view on fantsy mmo's is if you don't get into it at the begining you get left at the gate, the game becomes elitest and stagnates at the top end, but that's from a bitter ex wow player ;)

Apparently they're going so far as to have elections for 8 players to be selected as ombudsmen and ccp will fly them over to audit them to make sure everythings going by the books. All makes me giggle I'd not even heard of this supposed cheating before i read that.

And anything that makes gate camping pointless in my limited view is great, the few times ive moved through into <0.5 space there has been at least one battleship waiting for my cruiser on the other side only 1600mm plate and quick clicking has stopped the pop, which to be honest isn't the way I think the game is supposed to be played.

Ah, yeah. Totally preference. The one thing that put me off Eve was the timed skill learning thing. I prefer to be doing things :)

You'd be surprised actually with City of Heroes, the community (well the people I know) are all adults. We are talking 25+ here. So it's all very civil and pleasant. Of course you always come across a few less than savoury characters.

I can honestly say that CoH is the only MMO I've ever played where the majority of people are nice, sensible, normal people! Our Guild in Guild Wars was superb, but as many ex-gw players can tell you, there were some real ace holes in that game.

I do admit that visually Eve looks pretty great. But as you say, its preference really :)

There are very limited ways to progress skill development in eve other than train them which is the only thing that grates whereas in coh and wow you just put more time in, it can be frustrating at times but then I remember theres nothing I can do about it, which is good because I can just walk away and not binge for hours at a time :P

oh and being 25+ in eve certainly doesn't mean anything you still get just as many knob jokes and epeen waving, just less "can you giev mee some glod plx?? kthx"
