I've seen a bit of what you're talking about and agree, he's frequently becoming abusive towards players who are beating him.
I'll try to dig up his chat logs from today in a second.
Edit: I think I found the portion you were referring to.

I think it's best that this be discussed among the other admins - perhaps the ones who play UT99 - before coming to a decision. Even so, its obvious that this needs to be addressed in one way or another.

By my knowledge, camping isn't a kickable offense to begin with, at least not in UT2k4. Hell, *I* camp. Constantly.
From what I read, it just sounds like Mal was getting huffy that he was being camped and wanted to kick this other fellow for a psychological win.
Still waiting for the others to respond, do be patient, :)
Made me lol.
Camping in normal weapons.
More annoying in insta if anything, and hell, EVERYONE camps.

i dont see what people class as camping , u have to defend the base but people dont seem to realie this and jst start the conclusion tht ur camping
Ahh, the amount of times and many, MANY pages of discussion regarding what is defense/camping in maps, it makes me chuckle each time. I really am chuckeling.
Good example of what people may call "camping" on a map is with w00tabulous; when someone is sat where the sniper rifle is and shooting people as they come over or more annoyingly, as they spawn. Where as if it is defense, there would be someone running about where rockets/shock is shooting people as they come over or, if they're lucky in skill, from their own base.
I guess that could define it somewhat. Can anyone concur?

Yes I agree with you to a point.
but on Woot as I have little skill I jump to the enemy base where the sniper rifle is and try to shoot any enemy back in my base so I feel I am defending my Base from the other side.
But If I did snipe from the top of my Base (which I dont) I still feel it is defending, why other would the sniper rifles be put there ?
Argh, yes Laz, good points mate but this discussion could become endless, don't you think?! :P
I say no more, each to their own onion and whatnot. =]

:P Camping on UT2k4 is generally just a player sitting in one position, attacking any players who come along some sort of bottleneck in the track. Basically anyone who sits in a place advantageous to stationary players and fraught with danger for those forced to travel through the area.
Spawn-camping is pretty much self-explanatory. Player hovers around a known spawn area for an enemy and attacks said players as they spawn. This, of course, can be taken care of by any simple-minded person by setting up a five-second invincibility time period for freshly spawned players.
Anyway, that's really not the discussion here.
Pertaining to Mal: seeing as nobody else was able to offer an opinion tonight, I'll offer my own.
Mal's behavior has earned him a 5-day ban. It will begin effective June 6th and end on the 11th. This is meant not to scare him off of the server, but to make him quite aware that we are watching his behavior and will not tolerate further infractions.
I'll be putting Mal on a special notify after his ban is expired so that when he joins our servers, we'll know. This will hopefully prevent any more events such as this slip by unnoticed.
My apologies for not seeing this prior to your complaint, but like we've said before, we're not at our computers 24/7. Granted, I hear Wal-Mart has managed to do this sort of thing with their employees, but sadly there are labor laws in the UK and USA that we just have to follow, :)
Good luck & have fun!

As far as I'm aware, camping has never been even a warnable offense on any of ours or truffs servers - with one exception - spawncamping. (Targetting a spawnpoint).
Some servers exist such as run-n-gun sniper and insta servers that expressly prohibit any camping, but imo it's a definite tactic and can't be moaned at.

Apart from spawncamping the only kind I object to is when someone on CTF has weapons trained on their flag all the time .... especially on SLV servers when it can kill the game stone dead, (Tree Village anyone? ). Yes, it can be construed as defending but it's a bit extreme imo and removes all the fun .... and any chance of a game.
Mal has been close to the mark many times, about time he got a break from the stresses of being shot at.
Just my 2p worth :>:

Makes it all the more satisfactory when you manage to get away after nabbing the flag :awesome: , you know, heart's beating... hands are shaking... but you still got the flag, and you're still flying that SLV....

I never really got why SLV was so popluar. I prefer shooting them down.
Seems popluar though as the server is more full :)

Hi guys
As one of the admins of the slv-server were this occured i think its save to say that mal isn't one of the admins. So i think he should leave this kind of judgement to others, prefurably us. It's a pitty that at the time no admin came to his aid but so be it (don't know what happend to laup but maybe he dc'd)
It's Mal's right to use the kickvote to express his frustration about the way a surtain person playes but starting a lynchparty is something else. So i think a ban is in order
Now, as far as i know camping never was a reason for being kicked.
Camping also comes in many forms. Personaly i dislike the suicide camper with his slv, sitting on top of his flag, blowing himself up if anyone comes near to it. I have more respect for the sniper who gives me a headshot even if he doesnt move away from his base. At least that takes skill and I like to think I have a fighting change.
BTW i have warned and kicked players for SLV-suicidecamping because, as Batty rightfully stated, it cripples the gameplay

Hah, I love the way you make a ban sound therapeutic, :)
The only camping I do is the sort you would find in Hellbender Races on UT2k4 Assault. The first objective is in clear sight of the spawn area, so when we have a runner to the objective and no one is close enough to take a shot, players will suicide to the base and set up camp. Even then it's a hard shot since we only have a view of the head at a 90-degree angle, but hell, it works, :)
Other than that, I kamikaze with the Redeemer like a madman. Not to camp, mind you, but when I get down to 25% HP I'll bring out the wimpiest gun, fire madly at an approaching vehicle, and at the last second switch to the Redeemer and blow us all to Hell, >:)

When you kill enemies, defend the base or do whatever else, and get called a lame camper, then you know you did it right.
Being a camper is just a mark of recognition.

I agree it makes ut a totaly different game. Some maps are nice with slv, but here on multiplay is slv dominating.
In the past was it a challange 2 cap.
Its not originel part (slv) of unrealtournament. In my opinion keep it the way it was meant. There is alway unrealt. 2, 3 and more
Little changes ok but not more than that, its

You think capping whilst flying around on a nuclear warhead, all the while being shot at by vicious co-pilots on pursuing atomic rockets, hoping the defenders on your team did they're job and didnt decide to go sight-seeing with they're personal jet-propelled widowmakers isn't a challenge??
If you truly believe that, then my friend... i believe you need driving lessons :p
