View Full Version : A ban with a reason

On monday the 14th of may I recieved a ban on "Multiplay.co.uk :: Instagib JB CTF DM TDM LMS DOM" for breaking the following rule:
Show respect for your fellow players - don't be abusive or use excessive swearing
I was abusive to an admin and used excessive swearing, disrespecting the decision made by that admin. I believe it was Island Guy, also known as LG.
Before this took place, I had already broken the rules, during the same night, by talking in Dutch, because I was unaware it would oppose the admonishment performed by the administrators of the Multiplay servers.
Furthermore I continued my bad behaviour by placing, as Batty said, a sarcastic comment in which I, in a way, demanded my own unbanment.
I admit that I misbehaved myself and I'm sorry for doing so. Therefore I promise I will do my best to pay more attention to both my attitude as my temper, and I hope I will be allowed a 2nd chance, receiving full access to all Multiplay servers once more.
I would also like to know why I received multible kicks on connect, when I first tried to enter the server on monday the 14th, because I can't better myself completely without being fully conscious of the error of my ways. I thank you for your time.
Cheers,

these make for such good reading, and show the admins are doing thier job :)

What is it with UT players who post in bold/colours? Is it some sort of genetic thing? I am curious you see. I think we should study this in more depth.

I think raka128 is admitting he made a mistake and is trying to let us know that he understands that he was wrong. I just wished more people who posted in this thread would confess what they did wrong instead of blaming the admins and telling them to do their jobs better, it's not like they're getting paid for it. Once someone stops denying the problem he's ready to go on in my opinion.

Yes i was the one that banned you . Seeing as you are willing to own up to your mistakes I'm willing to let you have another chance . I do suggest you read the server rules here http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showpost.php?p=574253&postcount=1 and abide by them as this is a one time shot .

Not sure what all happened, but glad it was all ironed out. Kudos to Raka128 for coming here and apologizing & kudos to LG for the 2nd go around.

That's a generous gesture of you Island Guy, but I believe those rules to be outdated for they do not speak of a spoken language restriction. Nor has raka128 been told why he was kicked when trying to connect to the server before he misbehaved himself. Maybe some other admin who is responsible for that will fill in the gap. I thank you for your judgement Island Guy.
Yep, awfully stand up of you ol' chap.
Makes me wonder why my earlier reply to this Raka got deleted mind, just trying to be of some help.

If an Admin warns you that it's an English speaking server and to use English please. That is the only thing you need to know and pay attention too . This warning gets displayed on the server on a regular basis .It gets sent to the servers by Admin on a regular basis and has been for at least 3 months or longer Now . As for why raka128 was kicked i have no idea . I'm beginning to wonder, are you their spokesperson or something . I don't really see were this concerns you CWL so unless you have a concern in this matter please stay out of it . Raka128 had no problem saying their piece on the server so i figure they can speak for them self here . CWL your ban was lifted so there is nothing in this post to concern you that I can see .It is between Raka128 and myself so just let them speak for them self . The ban was lifted if your not happy with this I can just as easily reinstate it if that is what you would like .

As you see I was merely trying to help you by suggesting to add the language restriction rule to the rule list, because when I was banned, I never received a single warning, and I had never heard of the rule, nor did I understand it. All I read was a reporter bot saying something like "please try to speak english" instead of "speak english or get banned right away". It's crystal clear that I tried to help in this situation, making sure Raka128 can understand where his ban came from, helping a banned person understand their mistake reduces the problems, improves the friendly atmosphere and will make administrating so much easier. So as you can see I'm a perfectly happy person and I hope you are too so please do us all a favor and keep the administrator power abuse threats to yourself and stick more to the professional administrating since I believe that's what you're more acquainted with.

You said (please do us all a favor and keep the administrator power abuse threats to yourself) trust me I don't make idle threats .If I tell you I'm going to do something you can be assured it's going to happen and you can take that to the bank . You don't impress me in any way shape or form with all your posts of useless dribble . Unless it concerns you I would be very happy if you kept your nose out of business that does not concern you . Now for the record just so you will never have to say again I didn't know . The ut99 servers are English Speaking Servers .This is so Admin and other players know just what is being said and about what and who .We issue warnings about this from time to time and there are also warnings on the servers . If you got off your ego trip for awhile you just might notice things like that .You said that you saw this message All I read was a reporter bot saying something like "please try to speak English" That should have been notice enough . You are not new to these servers . You know what an Admin warning is ( lord knows you should you have received enough of them ) so don't cry poor me I didn't know it was a rule .
Now as for Raka they were banned for using Abusive language and being Abusive toward an Admin they know this as they said in their post above . As for your self , well it's common knowledge that if you were half as smart as you think you are you would be a wise wise person . I don't care what your opinion is on anything nor do I wish to read it on matters that don't concern you . So in the future try keeping your opinions to your self unless it concerns you regarding other players bans . Now you have been pushing buttons around here ever since you came here . My advice to you would be quit while your still ahead . One of these days you will push the wrong one and the results you will not like . Now I don't need a reply from you on this as i have already said your opinion means nothing to me . when you decide to screw up again ( which I'm sure you will as it's in your nature to seek attention any way you can )you can count on me being there to wish you good luck and escort you to the Door . Consider this thread closed as far as I'm concerned . If Raka (not you CWL as this thread was started by them not you) has any questions or concerns about their ban they can speak to me or one of the other Admin .

This is so Admin and other players know just what is being said and about what and who
<puzzled>
Why?
</puzzled>
I can't see that it would be useful for, say, stopping teaming and the like - a friendly TS server would do far more damage than having to stop and type in-game.
Nor can I see that it's to prevent abuse - it you don't understand the foreign swearing you're not going to be offended by it, and if you do understand then it doesn't matter than it's not English.
Note that I don't have a problem with the insistence on English, just that I can't see what problem it's solving.

I think it's to make sure administrators don't spent their weekends translating and to avoid the following situation:
[Person 1 and Person 2 swear at eachother in a foreign language because they think it's funny]
Person 1: I hate you and I think your an *******
Person 2: Well, I think you're an ******* too
Person 1: Oh do you really?!? Well you're the biggest ******* ever and you can't beat that
[person 2 doesn't know what to say anymore in the foreign language and starts talking in english]
Person 2: **** you and **** you again
[Person 3 and Person 4 finally understand what Person 1 and Person 2 are on about and join in, using the english language]
Person 3: knock it off, both of you are ***
Person 4: you were born *** and so is all of your family
[Person 5 sees what is said and calls in an administrator, 30min later the administrator enters the server with a fake nick]
Fake Nicked Administrator: So person 3 and person 4, both of you were swearing, now I give you ban
[Person 1 and Person 2 are nothing getting banned, they are happy, Person 3 and Person 4 do get banned, they are sad and waste more administrator time by entering a complain on the forum for getting banned while infact Person 1 and Person 2 deserve a ban aswell]

MrHero, I can honestly say I've never heard of or seen any situation arise similar to the one you've presented. Language barrier issues are often much more complex. Also, we don't outright ban players for cursing unless they are being racist and/or obscenely sexist. Moreover, it isn't a waste of time for players to contest their bans. I'll ask you to refrain from delving into the realm of Blatant Assumption, as it wastes all our time.
PurplePants:
It's not a matter of preventing abuse - the bulk of the time, players will jump to that stage rather quickly. It's simply for us to be able to manage those situations where players are becoming disruptive to friendly gameplay. If we get an !admin call and the players are speaking French, I for one would have no clue to what they're saying.
Seeing that the server is based in the UK, and (most) of the admins live therein, it's a simple courtesy to us and other players to speak in English. That's not to say if you don't know English, don't join, but be aware that if a problem arises we will likely hit a few speed bumps in trying to decipher what was said and to whom. Even matters such as accusations of teamkilling or spawncamping would be affected if the accused player was unable to communicate with us.
But most of the time players who are speaking in German/French/Spanish/Dutch/Etcetera know English well enough to be understood. What becomes a problem is when these players use their native language as a sort of cipher when chatting with others in the game. It gives them an advantage and can end up segregating other teammates who can't understand them. On top of that, some of these players will take advantage of this further and conspire with players on opposing teams without either side knowing it.
Simply put, it's just a lot easier for the players and the admins when people speak English on the server.

I'm sorry that I bothered you with my "Blatant Assumption", I gave an actually possible situation, now I will give you a situation that actually happened and I hope you will explain it to me using the following things you put in your post:
-"we don't outright ban players for cursing unless they are being racist and/or obscenely sexist"
-"It's simply for us to be able to manage those situations where players are becoming disruptive to friendly gameplay"

The situation is:
I'm on a server with a friend of mine, we are the only 2 people on the server, it's 2am, no one is around, we talk dutch to eachother instead of english, I get banned straight ahead, no warnings.
I accept that a rule is a rule, but please explain my situation to me.

Quite simple really .You have a history around the servers and have received multi warnings in the past .You have received Bans in the Past . I have one thin nerve left and your stepping on it pretty hard at the moment Hero . My advise to you is leave it alone and give it a rest for awhile . I repeat nothing you can say or do is going to change anything for you other then to get you banned from these servers and another Forum (and yes i know about you being banned from mittagsfragger). It's obvious you learned nothing from that event and I can see a repeat happening here . You have reached your limit here , Now Go back to what ever fantasy world you normally live in and give us a break before we give you a break .This is all the explanation you will be getting and consider your self lucky to have received that . You want to change the world do it elsewhere .If your not happy with the way things are for you here .Then buddy let me say this the door swings both way and don't let it hit you in the butt on the way out .

Typical handbagging old ladies tend to look like this moments before their vicious assault:
