Guesswho

Hi,
I have no trouble saying that the last post I did was totally out of order and I'll have no objections to any comments about my mental health. So, the forum ban is more than justified.
However, being someone who likes to see things done completely, I'm also going to request a permanent ban on the servers too. It shouldn't be a great loss seeing the current problems but I want to make sure I won't ever come back in future. My current ISP is edpnet.be. I'm sure some intelligent chap can figure out the range of IPs to blacklist. You can extend the ban to UT2004 and the soon to come UT3 servers too.
There are reasons for this.
For one, I didn't like the transition from Truff's to multiplay. Even if the closure of Truff's was orchestrated, there is something that just didn't fit in the transition from something that is run or voluntary basis to some economic venture. However charitable the gesture is passed off, I personally have trouble in believing there isn't any opportunism involved. After all, previous to the transition, it had been a while since MPUK had closed all it's public UT servers. This is reinforced by some incidents, for example some Truff players getting kicked because they belonged to a clan (nice job of transposing rules there). Of course, in terms of luck, one couldn't have wished better seeing MPUK is "Europe's biggest GISP" (or something like that). But, that's just my insignificant point of view.
Secondly, I have a big problem with the admin who calls himself IslandGuy or rather the way a one-off incident was handled. I'd be tempted to say that this guy is either on a powertrip or has acute difficulty in managing people. In fact, one of his approaches seems to involve provoking people in order to justify a kick or ban. I won't be the first or the last to point this out.
Concerning the kick he administered in the first incident, it was totally uncalled for. I'll add that players hadn't been informed that they must speak english on the servers. I sincerely hope that has been fixed since then. If people are unaware of a rule, the least of things you can do is to inform them lest you want to appear unjust. Also conserve a benefit of doubt that someone hasn't noticed any white messages broadcast off IRC because most UT players are conditionned to automatically disregard them as they're usually unimportant events happening in-game. An ideal colour would be red since it is recognized internationally. Ask Cratos on utassault.net if you consider making the change and have trouble modifying the irc broadcast mod.
Anyway, IslandGuy's statement that me and another player has been talking french since yesterday is a total lie. This is taking into account the fact that he is apparently on Canadian time. It simply a lie because I had never spoken to this other player before then, didn't know he was living in the same country and didn't even know he spoke french. Also stating that one should speak english in the presence of other players is hilarious if you consider that the majority of the conversation took place during one single map with no other players around. This I took the trouble to establish as fact from demo recordings. I won't hide the fact that I took an immediate dislike to this and changed my nick often while perhaps not setting a good example anymore. After all, if one is obviously unwelcome, one isn't held to conduct themselves as a guest should.
So, I must be led to conclude that IslandGuy was misguided or had other motives to administer a kick. If the case was the latter than that safely qualifies as an abuse of power. One can only imagine the motives but they could be an objection to comments about the transition from Truff's to Multiplay, an attempt to "put someone back in their place" after a few isolated comments from other players or, god forbid, a dislike for the french language and the people of Quebec. How could I know anyway ? All I remember about this guy is a sea of non-punctuated and unforgiving text in the Truff ban appeal forum. The word enigmatic comes to mind.
In conclusion, I wanted to add that I don't have a particular problem with the aforementionned admin but rather with actions. There's a saying according to which two wrongs don't make a right (or is that the opposite ?). However, not being a sheep and sometimes having the need to speak out, I'm one of those people who don't hesitate to vote with their feet albeit it be in an awkward fashion. And there's always a need for a nutcase to come barging in every now and then to spew a little venom to put things back into perspective. In politics they say that you deserve the leadership you get. I'll extend that to an insignificant online game and say that you get the players you deserve.
James aka "Azura".
P.S: Apologies to those I may have angered or dismayed by the above post and previous actions. It was nice knowing you (manner of speaking).
P.P.S: To save the forum clowns some effort, type "attention whore" in google image search.
