View Full Version : Request to be permanently banned

Hi,

I have no trouble saying that the last post I did was totally out of order and I'll have no objections to any comments about my mental health. So, the forum ban is more than justified.

However, being someone who likes to see things done completely, I'm also going to request a permanent ban on the servers too. It shouldn't be a great loss seeing the current problems but I want to make sure I won't ever come back in future. My current ISP is edpnet.be. I'm sure some intelligent chap can figure out the range of IPs to blacklist. You can extend the ban to UT2004 and the soon to come UT3 servers too.

There are reasons for this.

For one, I didn't like the transition from Truff's to multiplay. Even if the closure of Truff's was orchestrated, there is something that just didn't fit in the transition from something that is run or voluntary basis to some economic venture. However charitable the gesture is passed off, I personally have trouble in believing there isn't any opportunism involved. After all, previous to the transition, it had been a while since MPUK had closed all it's public UT servers. This is reinforced by some incidents, for example some Truff players getting kicked because they belonged to a clan (nice job of transposing rules there). Of course, in terms of luck, one couldn't have wished better seeing MPUK is "Europe's biggest GISP" (or something like that). But, that's just my insignificant point of view.

Secondly, I have a big problem with the admin who calls himself IslandGuy or rather the way a one-off incident was handled. I'd be tempted to say that this guy is either on a powertrip or has acute difficulty in managing people. In fact, one of his approaches seems to involve provoking people in order to justify a kick or ban. I won't be the first or the last to point this out.

Concerning the kick he administered in the first incident, it was totally uncalled for. I'll add that players hadn't been informed that they must speak english on the servers. I sincerely hope that has been fixed since then. If people are unaware of a rule, the least of things you can do is to inform them lest you want to appear unjust. Also conserve a benefit of doubt that someone hasn't noticed any white messages broadcast off IRC because most UT players are conditionned to automatically disregard them as they're usually unimportant events happening in-game. An ideal colour would be red since it is recognized internationally. Ask Cratos on utassault.net if you consider making the change and have trouble modifying the irc broadcast mod.

Anyway, IslandGuy's statement that me and another player has been talking french since yesterday is a total lie. This is taking into account the fact that he is apparently on Canadian time. It simply a lie because I had never spoken to this other player before then, didn't know he was living in the same country and didn't even know he spoke french. Also stating that one should speak english in the presence of other players is hilarious if you consider that the majority of the conversation took place during one single map with no other players around. This I took the trouble to establish as fact from demo recordings. I won't hide the fact that I took an immediate dislike to this and changed my nick often while perhaps not setting a good example anymore. After all, if one is obviously unwelcome, one isn't held to conduct themselves as a guest should.

So, I must be led to conclude that IslandGuy was misguided or had other motives to administer a kick. If the case was the latter than that safely qualifies as an abuse of power. One can only imagine the motives but they could be an objection to comments about the transition from Truff's to Multiplay, an attempt to "put someone back in their place" after a few isolated comments from other players or, god forbid, a dislike for the french language and the people of Quebec. How could I know anyway ? All I remember about this guy is a sea of non-punctuated and unforgiving text in the Truff ban appeal forum. The word enigmatic comes to mind.

In conclusion, I wanted to add that I don't have a particular problem with the aforementionned admin but rather with actions. There's a saying according to which two wrongs don't make a right (or is that the opposite ?). However, not being a sheep and sometimes having the need to speak out, I'm one of those people who don't hesitate to vote with their feet albeit it be in an awkward fashion. And there's always a need for a nutcase to come barging in every now and then to spew a little venom to put things back into perspective. In politics they say that you deserve the leadership you get. I'll extend that to an insignificant online game and say that you get the players you deserve.

P.S: Apologies to those I may have angered or dismayed by the above post and previous actions. It was nice knowing you (manner of speaking).
P.P.S: To save the forum clowns some effort, type "attention whore" in google image search.

Why not just vote with your feet, and just not join the servers... ?

While your post is calm and collected, i just dont see the point??

You dont "have" to join the servers, just go somewhere else ?

Azura, seriously - let it go and find something better to do with your life than waste it trying to ensnare an admin who genuinely tries to do his best for the majority and attack him even when, as far as I can see, you haven't even been playing on our servers recently.

I actually supported you last time your paranioa forced you to rant in these forums in a post that got that account killed, although you don't know it. I watched you come back occasionally under different nicks and I figured you were trying to make a fresh start but you've resurfaced in another attempt to discredit one of our admins who's done nothing to you since your last outburst.

Just go away and leave us alone. Stop trying to pin blame where none is due. These forums don't need another attention whore, go find your jollies elsewhere.

(For the benefit of other readers, Azura fakenicked and deliberately broke our rules by being abusive and annoying so that he could complain when he was banned. He then claimed that the admin didn't follow "procedure" and when checked, it was proved that the admin did exactly the right thing. Azura never even apologised and it's clear he still has a grudge)

The point is simply to say I do not agree and do not agree that another another player would find themselves in a similar situation. Azazel explained that him and others formed mpuk after breaking with Jolt but this is the sort of thing that makes Jolt unpopular.

My life awaits dear sir. However, even if you know Mr IslandGuy personally, I stand by my statement that he did wrong, doesn't seem inclined to recognize the fact and that his provocative approach isn't always adapted. Notice the fact that I have been kicked by other admins and have no comments to address to them. It's not about the bad and good guys, it's about rules and making sure they're respected (an obvious failure in my case), NOT applying some procedure to the letter like some robot.

That is all I have to say. If you consider this post a waste of time then be my guest and waste your precious minutes.

Yes and for added detail I employed the nick Hahaha while entering hahaha into the console from time to time. The idea then came about to test the procedure. There was a message broadcast and I was kicked/banned/ When I explained this on IRC Flash was apparently disgusted saying something along the lines that he'd lost all esteem or whatever.

However, this doesn't overshadow the fact that things weren't done in a proper manner with this first kick. Hence my comment, you deserve the players you get.

I am pleased you have accepted the ban graciously.

Why would we ban an entire ISP through one misguided user?

So what financial gain have we made from this venture? clanservers?....it's not like we sell any UT99 ones anyway.

Now whether or not you believe us or not we initially offered to host truffs with them running the servers and everything else for nothing more than a small banner on the truff site, pretty much like the one Unrealadmin.org have on their site in repayment for us hosting them, and in the same way we host the anti-cheat bots and...well you get the idea.

Multiplays UT publics never closed, they moved IP when we moved server houses and people lost them from their favourites - we did advertise the new ips on the servers for months before the move but it seems people didnt bother to change their links. At no point since UT99 has been released have MPUK had fewer than 6 public UT99 servers online.

I don't get involved in the admining of these servers, I merely make changes to them when the admins request them. The servers themselves are ran by the former Truff admins. Truff made a request to me before they were moved, she listed 3 people she would like to see managing her community, Flash was one of those people as was Batty, and as she requested these are the admins I listen to and act upon, this is why I dont get too involved in the community/admin side of things, as both Flash and Batty are very capable and were trusted by Truffs.

The clan rule was always imposed at truffs, I fell a victim of that one myself (people forget I used to frequently play on the insta server at truffs)

Lastly the voluntary staff comment, yes myself and Igloo are employed by MPUK in different capacities, however any unreal public work we do is generally unpaid and in our spare time, thats the way it has always been and always will be. Public servers do not generate income, clanserver sales do but generally a 7 year old game doesnt have clans to sell servers to, so why would we do this and not expect a return on it, the answer....because we all love UT and the resources this uses are minimal for a GSP of our size, nothing more than that really.

And now we get down to the real issue, your hatred of LG or Island_guy as he is on here (who I may remind you is also a former truff person) As much as I dont interfere with how the servers are ran, I see everything that goes on in some way, and LG is the most efficient admin I've ever had the pleasure to work with, he sticks to the rules and overall is very fair. I have absolutely no problem with any of the admins, they do a very good job and never receive thanks for the work they do. Over the years since Unreal 1 (before even UT was announced as an addon pack to unreal 1 even) I have worked with a lot of admins, and I personally feel this is the best admin team I've ever had the pleasure of working with since that point.

For someone that doesnt care azura, you sure make a huge fuss over the whole thing.
