Damnit. Well i was just messing around with Skirmish getting used to the various factions but i cant really try out anyone in depth without the game getting to the 20min mark and just turning into a pew pew match with nukes and other junk. Maybe i will go back to Sup Com for a more indepth gaming experience. =/

If you're playing skirmish... the AI don't arrange their base well. It's not difficult to get rid of their powerplants so the superweapons stop working.

Supcom has a way bigger rush problem. Most games are over before anyone even gets onto T2! In turtle games you still have a problem with superweapons. Ok so nukes are easily denfensible but try defending 4 monkeylords that you didnt see coming and long range arty can pretty much be unstoppable if its somewhere in the middle or back of your opponents base. At least in c&c there is a lot of strategy in how you lay out your base and how you use your units, in supcom it mostly depends on whos built what in what order.

if you turtle long enough to let your opponent build 4 monkeys then you really shouldn't be playing an RTS

Depends how evenly matched you are with your opponent. My longest ever match was 9.5hrs in a 3v3. I had a continuous stream of nukes firing and hitting nuke defense, we had heavy artillery pinning all the players into the corners of the map and each side had about 10 x-units going at a time.

Easy tiger.
If you need to do a "test" skirmish, set the opponents handicap up. This will stop them even building the weapons :) I have to admit it would be nice to be able to turn them off. Stealth ninja emp buggies ftw! ;)

way to go asshat, feel free to insult more veterans who have more years on these boards then you have in life*
*this will make you really popular in the future.

Well veterans should know better really. There was no need for the please read comment. Perhaps I took it more harshly than intended but if so then maybe he should bit a bit less ambiguous.
Anyway getting back on topic, the one thing that i think imbalances c&c is the devastator warship, it out ranges everything and although you can take em out with firehawks, they always overshoot and get shot down by forces behind them. I guess nod vemons can handle them better.

Or rocket soldiers, attack bikes, pitbulls, mammoth tanks and Im sure there are others.

APCs, APCs with rocket dudes inside, Stormriders, AA defenses, Stealth tanks, and the reflected beams off Venoms can hit air also. Then there's most of the light Scrin vehicles...
Yeah, the game IS balanced for once (more or less). But yeah, Scrin are heavily Air biased. (Just as GDI are armor biased and Nod are sneaky bugger biased.)

Seems to be more people who take time to say it's bad than people saying it's good. Kind of strange ;)
This is a great game! You hear me? Its fantastic! :D

I have to agree with murry n this one
i brought supcom last month played it for oh i dont know 48 hours in total and was bored with it.
CnC is a time tested game and will once again rain hell over the RTS realm.
Although the inability to turn off S/W is annoying but not desasterious. playing at a lan just simply say no S/W and thats it :p

But C&C3 wasnt designed to exactly fit with the past games. It's designed for fast-pace competative multiplayer (according to EA). With a heavy emphasis on tank-rushes (also according to EA). Which imo is a shame, I did used to love the long games of TS and RA2
Unless you can defend yourself against waves of tank-spam long enough to expand your base, its pretty much a game of "Whoever has the most tanks, wins"
Btw, a few hits from the Nod bombers is enough to take out an ion-cannon. Or nuke it ;)

Tank rushes are bad, but you can turn them away. I tend to use men, rocket men or even better Zone Troopers, although they are kinda late game.
If you are nod, Fanatics are utterly superb against vehicles.

To stop tanks I just get a few beam cannon supported obelisks, they stop infantry rushes too. I say this because I love playing as Nod way too much.
I love Avatars.

Dear god.
Dont use infantry on cnc3 on this current patch, useless. Its cnc3 TW - Tank Wars.

But... good luck trying to get a few obelisks and beam-cannons built.. ontop of your standard base... before the wave of enemy tanks rolls into your base :P
I prefer to tech up... but I know that by the time I've got a small defencive army (5 tanks and a couple squads of infantry), and my basic base built... my allies/opponents could have 10+ tanks.. and thats before Ive managed to get a tech-centre up... let alone several Obelisks and beamcannons
Ive found that infantry only really works if you can garrison lots of them.
Else tank-treads deal with them nicely
(Nod FTW)

yeah but I'm a bit of a newbie, i'm still on the demo taking on a medium skill AI opponent.

Haha oh its designed for the tank rush is it? IMO C&C3 is entertaining single player but sucks multiplayer cos it is the same rush over and over. It needs a lot of patching before it is gonna live up to the variation of DoW, CoH or Supcom. Interstingly Supcom has a much weaker single player game but far greater longevity. You would have thought that EA would see how that works from running the BF series. To be honest I am really dissapointed with the boring multiplayer side because I am a great fan of the past C&Cs.
