Months and months of speculation, leaked photos, and random bits of information have finally come to an end. Microsoft just officially announced what we've all expected, the black Xbox 360 Elite. Everything we've heard before is pretty much true; HDMI connectivity, a massive 120GB HDD and everything is painted a matte finished black. You'll be able to purchase this black wonder April 29th for $479.99 US which even includes the HDMI cable. The Xbox 360 Elite is not a limited edition package and will not replace the current offerings, but will be treated as another SKU. Microsoft also announced that other black accessories will be available for purchase separately including black play and charge packs, controllers, and headsets. Finally, the 120GB HDD will also be available separately for $179.99 US. Read the full press release after the break and be sure to check out Joystiq's lovely Xbox 360 Elite photo gallery ... oh the joy! So fanboys, will you be going black this April?

Looks sexy, mind you I dont see myself running out of the 20gb hard drive unless they start releasing proper HD TV and movie content for download over live here.

White 360s look so much better than the black ones do ;)
I don't use much of my 20GB HD (well, 13.7GB) as it is, 120 would be overkill for most.

WHAT!
Why did they not include a built-in HD-DVD player rather than that annoying separate one.
I think i'll buy a elite 360 when I finally get a HDTV as i'm sure by then, the downloadable movies will be out.
Also the 360 elite will also be available in White. And the 120GB hard drive will be sold separately.

I want one.
It has the far superiour HDMI built into it and ofc does not rely on the older method of phono connections.
I dont know about the hard drive ive yet to make up my mind.
But I do think the black console looks a lot worse than the white one. If I were to get this beast the first thing I would do would be to change the case on it.

Something like that for example.

I welcome the HDMI port, especially if it can upconvert regular DVD's to 1080i, unlike component. Also once the video store comes to the UK, the 120Gb hard drive will come in very handy

They'ed have had to increase the price accordingly, 479.99 dollars + 260 dollars = 739.99 dollars (around 370 pounds).
Which starts to Rivaled the playstation 3 price, Xbox fans would the start to object to being ripped off for the HD DVD/Console combination.
Especially since overall they would get a worse experience for there money then a playstation 3 can offer.
