How do people :)
Rob introduced me to this thing, names already down on the list like, probably will be attending as long as i get my comp upgraded before the date,
Just changed engine in the car for a fangled 16v jobby (what a chew!) n thats put me 1500 into the debt, lmao. tempted to spend another 1500 on a BNPL to upgrade the comp like, lol!
But yeah, anyway.
Im chris, i live in Redcar (near middlesbrough). Used to be big into gaming a few years back like, CS, generals, RA2, Total annihilation etc..
Spent last summer playing WoW n thats about it lol, now im working n big into my cars been out of gaming for a while noow but starting to feel the geek in me again.. LOL! :smile-l:
Wont bore you all with new rig ideas but.. should be alrite with the 8800 gtx :)

Hey, cheers for the interest in the event! For the last three events we have had around 30 or 40 people attending.
Glad you've got back in to gaming, they usually return
I just upgraded my PC to a 8800GTS among other things, can tell you i've been very impressed... performance is fantastic, especially when you take into account it's a single chip unlike the 7950GX2 so there's nothing lost to SLI's inefficiency!
See you at the LAN :)

Works out quite bloooody expensive and thats not even including a new gaming mouse, headset, cables, joypad/stick etc!!!
Absolutley sick as
Anybody here have suggestions as to a way to 'regrade' or something that system to kill the price down a bunch without loosing much power, Idealy this system would be baught to last like 3 years like my current (barton 2800, SB live!, a7n8x, nvidia 6800 etc) has..
Also would somebody care to shed some light on weather or not that ram would be good enough to cope with a cpu OC to 3.6Ghz, and if that CPU cooler will keep it cool enough in the process.
Will the mobo cooling be sufficient to keep it at them clocks under load too, and if not what reccomendations do you have for aftermarket mobo cooling (air.. cant afford watercooling!!)
Mr original budget was £1500 including everything mouse keyboard monitor headset etc etc but im gona have to make do without them and live with my MX500 and home theatre system for sound (even if it does my parents nut in after hours! lol)
If u can get back to me with a quick responce that would be great as i plan to order today!
Thanks!

Sounds good, apart from I would go for a Zalman CNPS9700 or a Scythe Infinity, both cool a lot better than the F7 Pro.
I'm a big fan of the Gigabyte DS3 motherboard, even though its 965 and supposed to 975 chipset, its the best overclocker i've used
I wouldn't aim for 3.6 either, ive got a 6600 and mine only does 3.3 and that's 1.55v on water, although i know my chip is pretty underwhelming compared to most. I think you should get at least 3.2 no trouble.
As for your RAM, i would take a look at other brands. For example, I have a set of GEIL Ultra RAM which was on special offer on Overclockers, cost me £120 which is cheaper than similar specced corsair that costs £145, and will also overclock better, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-058-GL

Best way to get a lot of cheap-ish high end power:
Intel E6300
Zalman CNPS9700
BFG 8800GTS 640mb
Gigabyte DS3 Motherboard
2GB GEIL Ultra PC6400
2x 160GB SATA2 HDDs in RAID0 for Windows + Games installs
1x 320GB SATA for data
Tagan EasyCon 530w PSU
Decent case, Akasa Eclipse/Lian Li PC7-Plus/Original Stacker (Stacker 830 = EW!)
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music OEM
Decent 120mm fans (SilenX etc)

personally i dont think that the GTS has the power to last 3 years tbh! and the E6300 is probably up to the 3.2Ghz job like but.. hmm
and the stacker 830 in black looks gorgeous with blue lights :O woot!

The system I build for my friend is that spec, overclocks easily to 3.1ghz cpu and 620/2000 graphics card speeds to get the same 3dmark score as a stock e6600 and GTX (10300)
Hehe, case design is a matter of opinion but imo the stacker 830 is very poor value for money

135 squids for the stacker..
Its true thermaltake do a similar design case with perspex window and is alloy but.. i duno, i just like the black :) (always had a cream / white case and its boring lol. plus montior is black!)
Im not a fan of 'open' cases anymore, for once i'll go for a front covered case for the sleek look :)

For sleek cases this is one of my favourites

Silverstone TJ06, comes with or without the window. Costs about <£90 i think

Still means drives up front are visible, and look quite tacky imho without some form of modding to get the std alu panel to fit the drive or floppy itself..
Im after a case with a front door, and some form of grill / window that looks neat, sleek, good cooling etc all rolled into one :)
Plus, the mobo i have on the list at the mo is priced at £125, however im still being advised to get a 680i but they arent cheap, cheapest good one i see is £155 and is the MSI but comes with nothing, idealy i could do with the eVGA but thats £175 and out of my league IMHO.
Whats your suggestions ???

the P965 boards are one of the better overclockers for the price, I've just bought a Gigabyte DQ6, so we'll see how well my e6400 chip goes in it.
hmm, Case wise I quite like the Gigabyte 3D Aurora, the older one, linked http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=250635

looks like quite a nice case like :)
pimpin' black too! lmao
Gone for the 975x though. :(
i guess its proven to get stuck at 400mhz for OC'ing but, even so it still a good allrounded i guess.
If i had the extra £50 i'd have gone for the eVGA 680i but i dont intend to have to replace cpu or GPU anytime soon, and i doubt buying another eVGA 8800GTX is going to happen anytime soon either tbh!!
So hopefully this system shuld last me a good 3 years, if i have to upgrade the GPU after 1.5 > 2, thats fine as long as everything else does me for 3. :)
Montior should hold out too, lmao!
Only provlem now is that ive gotta wait till bloody tuesday to get my bits as ive left it too late int eh day now to get it posted today.. DOE!

boo hoo!!!
can only hit 3375Mhz @ 1.4688 stable @ 4-4-4-9 2T clocks :(
gutted!
i could get 3340 but i'd be hitting 1.5v , i got one of these lame voltage hungry conroe's!! somebody swap with me! lol.
under full load on stress tests it gets to 58*C (idles at 33*C) @ 1.4865v.. to hit 3390Mhz but then its running at 52*C at the most at the current stable clocks i have..
oh well.
See you at lan ;)
11083 3dmarks in 06 btw ^_^
beats the old nVidia 6600 lmao
