Hi there,
Just recently bought original UT again and decided that, now I'm on Broadband, I'd give on-line gaming a go. Brought up a list of servers, Multiplay ones looked the most welcoming, ping in the region of 30 to 40 ms, (which compared to what I used to get on Dial Up seemed really quick), yet when I join a game I'm moving around about ten times slower than normal...yet others in the game, perhaps with larger pings than me, seem to moving around fine.
I'm sure it's my ISP, but I can't quite understand why a relatively small ping should cause this slow down. My connection's only around 512k download, 256k upload, so is this just not up to the task?
Thanks,
Tim.

Have you set it in the options tab to what type of connection you have (dunno if that actually makes a difference... ;) )
Adrena1in

It wouldn't let me connect until I'd set it in the options. Pilyrei (sp?) gave me his connection details to connect dorectly, and it was still really slow, which he said meant it would be my connection.
Oh well.
(It's weird though, on Dial-Up (>250ms ping) motion around levels in games was fine...it was the opponents jumping about which were where the lag showed. This is totally different on Broadband, and actually even less playable.

Check that UT has detected your processor speed correctly.
It can happen if you are useing a laptop with the old intel with spedstep.
You could then modify your exe to suit.

My GFX card doesn't work with OpenGL, and anyway, graphics aren't important to me...it's all about gameplay, (which is probably why I still like original UT more than any other game). Even so, Software Rendering runs at 1024x768 at more frames per secong than I can keep up with, so I'm happy. (When I first start UT it seems like the FPSs aren't limited, and it's running at 2 or 3 times speed. I have to go to Preferences, click Change, then go through the Setup and restart it to slow it down!)
Just need to build up my list of Favourite Servers now. Already added the Multiplay ones, as there are a couple for Noobs, and I stumbled on a good one last night...will keep me going a while. :roller:

Okay, needing a bit more guidance please...
Decided to try starting my own server last night, so that me and a friend could head-to-head DeathMatch for a bit. Everything was fine really, until the game ended. My system would automatically start a new level, and I think my friend would get kicked, and would have to join again manually. Is this meant to happen? Is there a way for me to have that Voting thing, where players vote for the next level, and it gives you a minute to sort it out?
Also, I've played some on-line levels which I really like, which are non-standard levels...is there a way I could start a game with one of those, so that my friend can join in, because it only seemed to allow me to start games on the standard levels.
Thanks in advance.

Hi again
If your talking a temporary server then you can go to start > new multiplayer and select the map list/mutators etc. MapVote is one you'll need to vote maps. [ link (http://ut-files.com/Mapvotes/) ]
Don't know why your friend gets kicked.
To get custom maps into your Maps folder you'll need cache cleaner (http://ut-files.com/Utilities/UTCacheCleaner3.rar).
Downloads will probaly be reallllly slow tho if there coming from your PC, so I'd send them to your friend via e-mail/MSN or something first.

Errrr, which MapVote file though? There are lots and I'm not sure which I'd need. I just have version 436, GOTY edition, if that makes any diff.

Time for another question:
Looks like things for me might be looking up a bit for me. If I don't start my own server to dual with a mate, we go onto the "Low Skill Players Only" MP Servers. We were happily playing the other night when a message popped up about me being too good. Wasn't quite sure as I didn't get to read it all, and I couldn't tell if it was a third player who was telling me to go away, so I ignored it, as I wasn't leading the match. About 5 seconds later my connection dropped.
Popped back in and had more time to read the message, which mentioned the words "last warning" and "banned", so I disconnected.
What is it that controls the skill-level of a player, which the servers use to determine if someone is too good for a Noob server? It's just that after one or two games on various other servers, (including some absolute trouncings on Deck16 only, where I'd be lucky to get 2 or 3 kills before the winners were hitting 40!), I was then able to get back onto a Noob server. I assume it's some sort of kill/deaths ratio? Is it the ngWorldStats thing, as I'm not sure what that is.
P.S. Thanks to Wampyr for being a friendly player, and showing me some secrets on a level. Don't often see people like that in games. :)

hello Adrena1in
You are well beyond the skill level of the newbie server Public DM #1 (Low Skill Players Only) Public 85.236.100.43:8377 . This server is for novice players only that are new to the game . Players that do not know the maps or how to dodge and shoot yet , use this server as a training server to learn about the game . You are more then skilled enough to play the open skilled servers. Now if you feel your not ready for that step then play the intermediate skilled server here Public DM/CTF #1 (Low Skill Players Only) Public 85.236.100.43:8277 . Just remember it is a low skill server also but for players not yet ready for open skilled servers and too good for newbie server .Now if you start finding it too easy please move up to a higher skilled server and leave it to the low skilled players . I have seen you play on the DM2 server which is an open skilled server and you were doing fine . So if you ask me you need to spend a little more time on the open skilled servers to improve your game . This will not happen playing against lesser skilled players . So please stick to the intermediate server Public DM/CTF #1 (Low Skill Players Only) Public 85.236.100.43:8277 or the Public DM #2 (Popular Maps) Public 85.236.100.100:27808 which are more your skill level . You have received past warnings regarding this and have totally ignored them . the day in question you and your friend were running huge FPH frags per hour well into the 200+ range . Lots of rampages and a few Dominating scores . A lot of the time you have been on the newbie server alone and this is why not much has been said i guess . I'm really surprised this has not been brought too your attention before this . Anyway please refrain from playing on the Newbie server in the future you are too skilled for that server .
Hope this answers your question

:) If you want to duel with your mate you can always go onto the DM 1v1 server too.
The DMCTF3 server (Crap n Ghey maps) is a good place to go to increase your experience - more a fun server than the open CTF or DM servers.
Have fun :keke:

You have received past warnings regarding this and have totally ignored them.Don't worry, I'm not complaining. I do still consider myself to be a bit of a Noob, and even though I can easily hold my own against "Experienced" BOTs, I've only come across two or three human opponents who I consider myself better than. But yes, I have the basics down and wouldn't want to irritate those who are completely new, so I'll stay off those servers...that's fine.
However, I apologise if you think I've "totally ignored" any warnings, because I've only actually seen one, just after I got booted, and the one before I got booted I didn't quite have time to read. As soon as I read the full message I left immediately. I'm just not used to seeing important messages at the top of the screen when I'm in the midst of the action! ;)
:) If you want to duel with your mate you can always go onto the DM 1v1 server too.If we want some 1-v-1 I tend to just start a server myself. Depends if we want to play new maps and stuff. :) As for CTF, I tend to not like that quite as much, but I do like trying new things. Popped into a very weird "Beer" map the other day, with people flying around on rockets and stuff! Bizarre. :D

Your post looks very like my 1st post on the TrufF servers over 2 years ago ( though im still not very good) Regarding the Beer Map im sure you will get to love it in time as that is one off the fun type maps Batty was on about I think,.

Laz is a hardcore fragger now - he's the one dominationg at 40 whilst your in the 3's ;) and as for Batty sheesh dont go there. often mistaken as an aim bot lately!
P.s if you miss a message press the "Tab" key and it should open the console so you can read what you think you missed.

Regarding the thing you had to install, that's just routine, and you'll play real players if any others join the server ... otherwise it's bots I'm afraid, but often 1 real player on a server attracts others.
As for the chat box, make sure you have the 'show chat area' box ticked in >>Preferences >> Options >> HUD.

Another thing is the Display doesn't show up when i start the game anymore. Its just sound and i can hear myself moving the mouse to the menus just can't see the display.
I can still play by running in safe mode and pressing 'enable sound' but this is a bit awkward because i have to open the game, crash it on purpose then run it in safe mode next time.
Anything i can do to get the display working. Its not the monitor as i can see my desktop as i minimise :)

I have to agree that Admins are essential in a setup like Multiplay, because without them things would be awful. Players would be rude and nasty, would gang up on others, would flood the servers, and generally make things rubbish for decent, law-abiding players. So yes, I commend the Multiplay Admins for the hard work they do.
But what if I defy your request, and go back onto the Low Skill server, but play down to the level of my opponents, (if necessary), and help them out and stuff, and make it a good game. Will I still get banned? ;-)
Just curious, because I was on there last night for 20 or 30 minutes, having a GREAT game with first one, then two opponents who were easily as good as me. A mate of mine tried to join, but was kicked straight away, saying he was going against a ban. [TPB]M4rDyB is his name.

I hope im not over stepping the mark here and Im not sure of the full ruleing on here but in the TrufF days the only way a non noob player ( and only the Admind decided if you were ok to do this) could play on the Nooby server was if they added the word Bait to there name ie: Lazerus-Bait and "acted as Bait/Target for the new players " ie: did not shoot back to hit the new player just fire near them for affect and spent the time showing the new payers round the maps and how to use weapon's etc.
And if some one came on who looked to good to play there we asked them nicely to move to the intermediat server or open servers.
And it that did not work we called for the Admin to sort it as it was not our place to start an argument etc.
Hope this helps.:)
Also if ever an Admin asked / Told us not to go on even as Bait we stayed off.
And regarding this "But what if I defy your request" I just would not go there m8 but if you ever do can we watch ;)

Hi,
Yea I don't know why I'm banned from that server as I am cr*p and have only been playing for about 2 weeks. Players on there last night were quite a bit more skilled then me and they were playing happily. But to not cause any more argument I'll stay off that particular server and 'try' and survive on the other ones even though they have about 20 frags to my 1 .
I have all respect that the admins are doing there job properly and would like to say that I'm, not trying to criticise what they do and how they do it.

1, Baiting is not allowed on MPUK servers. Its been covered in another thread by i think IslandGuy.
2, You never play down to a level unless you showing some around on your own server. Just find the best players you can and try and beat them. Go spectate them to learn if you must.

Players that go to the NEW INEXPERIENCED PLAYER server to try teach new players ,should never and i mean NEVER be winning the game . They should not be getting Rampages or Dominating on the server . In this case you both were noticed doing just that on the Newbie server. Your not helping a player any to build up confidence in themselves or learn anything if your to busy beating them or Dominating the game . This has been a major problem in the past with players saying they want to bait on the low skill servers . Problem is they get bored and first thing they are getting rampages or Dominating on the server . So the practice of players allowed to act as Bait on low skill servers has been pretty much done away with completely. It's to bad really that it had to be like this but it was necessary to do it this way . It was tried with a few players being allowed the privilege to bait but had to be ended . Too many complaints of what's so special about them that they're allowed an why not me . Well the reason was they were Trusted players that had been around for a long time . This was not a good enough answer for some ,( you know, the ones who moan, oh it's not fair or oh I'll behave next time or just plainly would not follow the guidelines )so the option was allowed to end . Maybe next time if you have a friend you want to show something or try teach ,take them to the rookie server or contact an Admin and see if you can do it on the Newbie server. Still there should be No Rampages or Dominating or Winning of games at any of these times .

Yes you both are welcome to play the intermediate skilled server . This server is much more suited to both your skill levels for now . Thanks for all the responses guys. Bizarre as it may sound, I would far rather be on a newbie server as bait for beginners, than getting thrashed by skilled players on other servers, but if that's not allowed then fine.
It's just a bit disheartening sometimes when I look at my three Favourite servers, and see that DM2 Popular Maps has extremely skilled players on it that I won't stand a chance against, DM/CTF Low Skill has no-one on it, and DM1 Low Skill has some people on it, because the latter would be my first choice.
Again, I'm not complaining, I fully understand the rules and regulations. I just want to get things all straight in my head. (And I won't defy the Admins...god forbid! ;) )
And Mardyb, you're not banned from that server because you're a beginner. You're too good for that server too when there are REAL beginners on there.

Okay, now I've got another problem, so I'll post my issue here first.
So I downloaded all the MonsterHunt MODs the other day, to run some games from my PC. At first I only had the levels, so I was very limited with my ammo and health. So I grabbed all the other MODs from the link J-RAW posted earlier, (when he gave me the links to MapVote). Now, when I try and join a MonsterHunt game it errors with a "Type-Mismatch" or something. Not sure how to go about removing the MODs. Is there a simple way?

Don't think there's a quick way remove all the files..
Best way is to take note of what file is giving you the mis-match then delete it from your unreal tournament/system folder & it will download the new one next time you connect.
there is normally 2 versions: file.u and file.int delete them both

Sounds like it's still partially installed, or at least - UT thinks it is.
Quick fix: Delete/rename/move Unrealtournament.ini and start UT again. It'll re-create the ini, although you may need to tweak global settings a tad (keybinds etc are stored in user.ini)
OR - just delete any line in unrealtournament.ini that references "Monster"
