Got any suggestions for maps that you really want to see on our MH server?

I've tried to go for some of the more unusual maps so far to make our server a little different, but a few favourites wouldn't hurt. What we won't do is "Duplicates of a theme", like twelvety different versions of Godz!

btw, we know there is an issue with the redirect "Refusing to send" some files. I've thrown an update on and I've just been sent an email to say it's been added. Please post here with any more filenames that fail to send.

Hey Flash, Hi All ! :)

First i want to say "thank you" to all who made this MH-Server possible.
I love it.:love: ..played a lot on truff 'in the days' lol but didnt find a just "MH"-server as truff closed..
only servers with alots of skins muts n mods and Too much of all these and other stuff. but somebody seems to heard my crying and decided to built up a pure MH thing :) OhYeah!!

and..
MH-Pupae : simply doesnt work and starts with another map (dunno which one right now)

so far .. more i dont know by now.:confused:

:wavey: Hi DoDo, out of your 2 suggestions for spam maps - MonstersOfSpam would be my suggestion too. I agree the AS maps are great - but I remember playing the Overlord map and it was so easy just to run past all the monsters and finish the map - nowhere near the challenge of Rook and HiSpeed :D

Glad you're enjoying the server as much as we are :deg:

Thanks for the post Dodo.

DavidMGras - I think the redirect version is corrupt. I uploaded a fix earlier, but I don't think it was replaced properly. Re-submitted with a covering note.
Ditto for EverSmoke.utx

mh-temple. Lowercase filename broke it. Re-submitted.

Pupae - missing dependancy (my bad). Submitted.

Sorry for the high number of breakages. Doing this from my own cache and it's quite remarkable how many mappers don't include the right dependancies, or use mis-cased filenames (which work in Windows, but not on the BSD servers) Steadily trying to work through the bugs.

We know quite a few have map bugs too - like huge holes in the scenery that you can fall through. Since we don't have a pet mapper who wants to fix these little bugs, and there aren't so many maps around that we can afford to simply not play them, they're considered "part of the character...". They should all be completable though, at least most of the time.

Added half a dozen more today including Assassination, a Godz, hopefully they'll be patched in soon.

Next lot: Those you mention. :)

Hey u Hunters !!:)

sadly i just had no time to play since my last post..:redface: :confused: but i would like to say that i think that Flash is doing a great job here. Rock On!!:as-spin:

..and if somebody like to have 'some' maps on his own pc..
i found a MH-Mappack on PlanetMonsterhunt with about !216MH-Maps! lol
its near 1Gb big and contains a lot of nice maps as far as i recognized. didnt download it by myself yet but maybe somebody like to try it too.:)

Assassination, Godz, Sushi and another one I cant remember all crash my UT, Ive played all of them on other servers with no problem. The only thing that may be a problem I can think of is that Multiplay is version 436 and the other servers I have played on have been 451, but even removing the old maps and and files from my system doesnt help......

Well I have one suggestion about maps and not only MH server maps but all servers. Is it not possible to have a link were we can download these maps from . I for one am tired of spending hours downloading maps from various places to only find they are not the same as on the servers . Now downloading from the server is not an option here and quite possible same for other players too . Connection is way too slow for that only to have the map change half way through download . Why can these maps not be uploaded to a common area were we can access them from and download the same ones that are on the servers . If this is too much of a problem or too much trouble then so be it, but it would be a nice feature for us poor slobs still on dial-up .

It's a great idea, but they're pretty huge with the dependancies. Working out what files are needed has been quite a lot of work (and not entirely perfect...) but I've uploaded probably close to 300mb of maps so far, just for MH.

The redirect is fast and is compressed, so I'm not sure exactly what advantage downloading by http gives (other than the option to resume on a particularly large map which I admit would be very useful on modem with the big files. You can get them from the redirect server directly using http and resume, but it's a bit fiddly and you need to manually decompress them with ucc)

That said, it would be nice to make these available and publicised somewhere as most mh links are dead and there are some pretty rare maps. But blimey, the work involved! Who wants to volunteer? :)

So what your saying is you load them to the server and work the bugs out later :) . What i was thinking was when they are ready to be loaded to the server they could be loaded to another spot too . I take it that this is not just a case of installing a chosen map to the server . It was just an idea that would make some players life easier for them . Nothing worse then spending an Hour looking for map download it and have it turn out to not be the right one . A lot of the maps on MH seem to be this way . If it is too much trouble then just ignore the idea . As for getting what files are needed it's not bad to download a few needed files from the server . You start downloading 2,3,4 meg files and the game is over before you get them for us people on dial-up . Anyway if it's going to be a hassle forget it . Just have to keep on searching through what seems to be 5 different versions of every map made and hopefully find the right one :) . It is so convenient if they are all in one area to download . It makes for no searching ,always there , and You know your getting the right one . We had this option at Truff ,don't remember it being to much trouble or at least no one was complaining about it .

With the MH maps you have already uploaded, it is not hard for me to be able to pull them from the uploads you provided and wing them onto the ftp.

It is perfectly do-able, To have an area on the ftp for all the maps and their depending resources. I will look at sorting it out this week.

The Indiana Jones map has a version mismatch on 'Blank' , but when deleted from my UT folder it crashes UT, (with some main loop blurb, a small blurb not a screenful as it usually does), rather than downloading a new one. :(

Yeah, you can tell I'm a professional can't you? :D

I play them all through offline to make sure they are finishable (quite a few aren't) and then try to work out the dependancies from my local files. It's not the best way, that is to get the original zipfile. Some of these maps don't appear to be available anywhere on the web though so the only copy I have is on my drive. What's more - a disturbing number of original zips don't have neccessary dependancies, or they have wrong cases which work fine in windows but break on linux.

Big kudos to Igloo if he can work something out!

map assassination crashes my ut .. tried to enter 2 times ... "general protection fault" ... the version mismatch thingy from yesterday .. did not happen again when i entered server the 2nd time

Hi again !

for those who got general protection faults and want to play in fullscreen or dont know how to enter again anyway..

(i do it this way. dunno if theres another way)

so. if it kicks u out just start in "safe mode" and exit again. start normally again and join the server with the 640*480 resolution it starts with. just increase now ur resolution in the game at ur preferences again high as u like. .. it should work. :)

Ok folks what ever happened to the idea of getting all the maps on the servers into one area for download. Has this plan been dropped or is it still in the works . I'm still getting version mismatch on some maps . not to mention the problem of big maps ending before they can be downloaded from server useing Dialup .

I've installed the MonsterHunt MODs on my PC, to run my own games, and I'm getting Version Mismatch now when I try to join on-line games. :(:

Uninstall them :p (If you can't do it automatically, remove each file that you get a version mismatch on, somewhere in your ut directory)

You seem to have installed a different version to that we run, and if it's not in your cache (ie, downloaded by ut) then it can't override the one on your disk.

It's an area I was pointed to for MapVote MODs.

Anyway, sorted now, so back to the subject. (I have no useful suggestions...I love the MH games. Though I do sometimes find some of the Monsters are unnecessarily (and annoyingly) too high on Hit Points. They're easy to kill, but it can take 5 to 20 minutes of constant shooting, and that's just boring.)

Can the health points of the monsters be controlled?
In every second map there are monsters with 50000 HP and more for which you need many minutes of continous fire to kill them. Just standing there and holding down your mouse button for five minutes is no fun.

The monster stats are controlled by the map. So yes - you could modify the map and release it as an altered version. I agree it's boring - I tend to stick the minigun on it until it's mini-locked (not moving), open console, release fire, close console (this keeps the gun firing when you take your finger off the button) - and just sit there until it's toast. I have some sympathy with the mappers though - utjmh changes the maps so much that half a dozen players have a huge amount of firepower and without ramping up some of the big guys it'd be over in two ticks. That said, they go too far sometimes. :/

Fwiw, I did add Shootguys but it crashes the server so had to be removed. Maybe one day it'll be sorted out.

I thougt there may be some general switch to modify the health points without changing maps, but well... bad luck.

Still, maybe there's something that can be changed which I just don't know about, so I'll try to elaborate a bit more on hat I mean by "boring": On the Multiplay MH server you have almost unlimited ammo, 500 HP which are constantly recharging and more lives than you'll ever need. It's basically impossible to die and even if you do it doesn't really matter. You're running over the map with constant fire and jump right ahead into every monster crowd, no matter how big it is. It's like playing Doom with iddqd+idkfa.
What I miss is some kind of challenge, where you have to take care of yourself, use your brain a bit and work together with other players. Giving the monsters more health points doesn't make the game more challenging, but just extends it.

Maybe other ppl like the server as it is, I don't know. But IMHO it's a bit too dumb. That's what was the reason for my prior posting.

I have some ideas for this. Maybe it is possible to replace monster health with the number of players. I am not sure how to do this because other players can enter the server in the middle of the game but I will try. If you have other idea for monsterhunt contact me at monsters community.

assrat - yeah, well, kinda. I like it more like this but the whole monsterhunt thing has evolved to this state.

Firstly MH was just like a normal ut game, but with monsters and ammo. BUT what'd happen is one or two players would grab all the ammo and leave everyone else with just the piston or chainsaw to play with. The monsters were smaller and more easily killed, but it was even more boring imo trying to slog through a titan with a chainsaw when you could never get close enough to touch it.

So this guy in the east from UTJMH for monsterhunt which issues you a random weapon on spawn, recharging ammo, recharging health, random amp and redeemers. It made a huge impact and servers running utjmh were way more popular than those without. The problem was then that the stock maps were too easy, so given that most servers were running utjmh the mappers made their maps harder to compensate. Some got the balance right, some didn't.

I don't think it is possible, jmh or not, to make a perfectly balanced map that works well with 1 player or 12. I don't think I've ever seen our server full (5 or 6 is about the average on a good night) but then we're competing against two great public servers out there with custom mods that we don't have the resources to match.

I'm sure ours could be made better though.

And now I've uninstalled all the Monster Hunt Mods I can't start a regular new game...says it can't find Monster Madness. Not trying to use that Mod as I'm just trying to start a regular game, so either I'm going to reinstall the files from the link above or remove and reinstall UT altogether. Would rather not do the latter, so if someone can point me to the correct Mod files, as used in the MP.co.uk MH games then I'd appreciate it.

Oh, and yes, Monster HPs based on the number of players would be cool. Was playing a level the other night, "Elite" it was called, where you start in a central portal room and there are glass screens, each housing a teleporter to a level filled with a certain monster. Each Boss monster was ramped up way too high considering I was on my own. By level 5 or 6 the Boss has 70,000 HP, so I just gave up as it would've taken about 30 minutes, and there were still 12 or 13 levels to go!!! Even when I went back later and there were two or three other hunters it was taking ages each level.

It sound like this map has bad design or was made for a modification. When someone make a map for monsterhunt they should make it so it can be played with no modification. I have posted about this at planetmonsterhunt.com and hope that players there agree.

Did you actually read what I wrote, Watcher?

The map Adrenaline mentions is probably the hardest one there is. Prolly move it off the server soon, shame as it starts out nicely.

The big monster in ATAA0 has over a million hp. The specialised guns in that one make it a little easier to wipe him out. I can complete that map alone within 30 minutes which I feel is about right.

Yes I have read your reply and I agree with your analysis. I am saying that this is a problem for all of monsterhunt. If map are made only for mutator like utjmh then this will divide players and will hurt the mod. There are many maps that can be good but are messed up because they mix with other mod like bunnytrack. I have not seen this happen with other gametypes.

I will try to make a modifier. How it will work is to check how many players at map start and modify creature hp. For boss monsters I can also change hp to a set level if it is too high. Another idea I have is random events like a player will get a special weapon or there is a attack by teleported monsters. I will release some first enhancements for monsterhunt soon and ask for some feedback.

Adrena1in > for your problem I suggest looking for int file. Perhaps monstermadness has left its int file and ut is unable to find the mod.

Many of those were uploaded anyway, but due to an unnoticed bug in the mapvote mod they weren't being offered as choices. Think I've fixed that problem now - should be a wider choice.

Also uploaded a few more that should be added in a day or two.

Is there anywhere that these maps can be downloaded from, were a person is sure to have the same version as what is on the server . For us people that don't have the luxury of High Speed it's hopeless to even think of getting them from the server . Nothing like spending an hour downloading a map to find , that it's an edited version on the server and is no good to a person.

I did not realise you were on dial up m8
so If you find the right set of maps and its a big down load please pm me and ill post them to you on a CD and any other files you need it just might be faster than a 3 day down load and with no interuptions to your usage ;)
Just a Noob thought but could I not just check the maps for playability and copy them right from my files to a disk that way you are sure to have the same version as what is on the server

Google, s'where I got them from for uploading.

Might be the occasional mismatch due to mappers with little brain, but that can happen if you got the map from another server too.

OK folks you lost me with this talk of dependencies for the maps . When they are ready to upload to the server would everything not be included in the file already . Or are you talking about something else that is needed to make it run or what . This is all Greek to me I was always under the impression when a map was ready for upload to a server it was ready to be run . I remember when we were on the Truff servers there used to be an FTP server we could get any map that was on the servers from . I don't remember there being any problem with files missing from them . Correct me if I'm wrong but can the same not be done here or is there some reason for not being able to do it .

what happened? played today on server and recognized that there are only 6 Lives and only 30Minutes time. :confused:
..is this a 'making-MH-a-bit-more-challenging' thing ?

..over the days of jumping into the middle of monstercrowds to shoot ur way out again with ur flakcannon.. lol

Yeah, something's changed to the server-side config, and because of the way MH is integrated into the mpuk system, it needs someone with full access to change - which is one of the mpuk staff.

I've emailed Neophyte about it but he's not around much at the moment. Hopefully he'll find time.

I was thinking the other day, (and this has probably been mentioned before, so apologies if I'm bringing up old news), but who thinks it would be good if, when joining a Monster Hunt, it would be possible to choose to either be a monster or a hunter? I don't know if this would be possible as a MOD.

I was thinking back to the days when I first got Aliens V Predator, and how cool it was to play the Alien against a friend who was a Human. The different game styles and control methods made for a really interesting head-to-head. (I ought to buy it again really, as he and I are now both on Broadband to it'll be loads better.)

I know such a MOD wouldn't work on certain levels, because some monsters are stood waiting for ages until the hunters arrive at that section of the map, but on smaller maps it would be good. ???

EDITED: It was the Alien I liked to play as, not the Predator. Pred was the same as a Human really, but Alien was totally different. Only "Tail" and "Bite" weapons, but your view was more "Fish-eye" like and you moved quickly AND you could scuttle up walls and along ceilings and stuff.

Interesting idea, Adrenaline. How does that work for team balancing - does it suck if everyone goes to one sort?

Don't know if it would work with Monsterhunt (I'd hate to face some of those monsters if they had the brains of a human), but it sounds pretty cool as a standalone mod.

I don't know how it would all work really, or how such a MOD could be written, but I just thought I'd mention it, and see what comes of it.

Obviously if everyone chose to be a monster it would be naff, and it clearly wouldn't work on some levels, like ones where it takes ages for the hunters to progress and come face to face with certain monsters. I guess I was thinking more of Arena-type games, where there's one location, with wave after wave of monsters, and the occasional Boss monster thrown in. Humans could play the Boss monsters. (Who'd want to play a Fly or a Pupae anyway! :D: )

And I don't think being human controlled would make the monsters that much more tough either. They're often slow and with limited weaponry.

Having read this I've had nightmares about trying to hunt MonsterPiley while he's hiding armed with his trusty sniper rifle ...... oooooooooh noooooooooo!!

MonsterBulldog and MonsterFlash are worth a few nightmares too ..... :(:

Even with several players 30 minutes often isn't enough.

And what was that about "Defending Mars" the other night? Said there were 5 monsters left, but me and three others searched everywhere to no avail. I did however notice an almost invisible red block, which you could jump onto from one of the perimeter walls, and up close I could see the red block had arrows on it, pointing downwards. Anyone know what that was? I assumed it was something to do with the end, but I couldn't work it out.

its a "landing place" of a ship that carries u away to the end. but u are never able to kill all monsters till the ship arrives.
BUT : no need to get the ship. u can jump onto it with the boots afterwards.;-) its holding its position somewhere up the rocks.

I know, and it's a bugger. The settings on the config aren't being read now and Neophyte and I spent an hour one night trying to resolve this. The mod started reading a default config from elsewhere which sets the stupidly low player number and time.

I'm really sorry, it annoys me too, but I don't have the access to go through the file system to find out where it's getting these settings from. :(

last night was playing Alarm solo and was hoping to get someone else join before the need to get across on the lift.

sadly no one came in but I found a way of getting across the void.

once you make it to the room with the sniper and get rid of the monsters in there and the void area you can go onto the broken windows ledge and dodge to the platform
there's a room which has boots and 2 deemers.
send deemers across to the side rooms to get rid of all the monsters that shoot through the slots then drop down to the middle platform

with the boots you can jump up onto the lifts cross beam and run across to the far platform. :)

fantastic map that is a really good challenge.
wish there were more like it.

yea. but its a really close n tricky dodge. so better take care;-) hehe

..theres another one in the second area. after ur activating the second spawnpoint there, u gotta defend against skaarjs, sliths, gasbags and kralls in this side room.(dunno how to explain another way:(:)). the first room where the gasbags and kralls are spawning(on right side) up the left wall. its rotating and u will see only sometimes the end or beginning of the weapon. and..
i sadly dunno how to get this one. lol

MH-Planeshifter (big, bit confusing 1st times playin lol)
MH-Skyland2-V106 (not that small, think it would be a nice addition)

@BullDog: think none of these can be compared to Alarm but i also think they would be great to add them on the server.;-):D:

Yes - sure. I was certain we had those maps you mentioned already, in fact I *know* I uploaded them. I suspect they may have been deleted somewhere along the line.

Anyway - I might have some time later this week to punt some upwards. Sorry it's taken so long, been working on the other servers.

Had a quick look last night. We have an issue with the mapvote and our system.

Mapvote is showing 61 maps. There are already a further 9 maps which it isn't showing but are available. Adding more maps will probably nerf this further. Need to get hold of one of the techs who have core access to help me figure out the problem.

played today on mh server and recognized that all messages are gone.:(:
..no white death messages in chat box.. ..no white 'DoDo is Yarisugi!!' lines..lol;-) ..even all event messages that u get in middle of the screen arent there.
is it an option of this pure thing?

Ah, well spotted Dodo.

I think this broke, not through Pure, but from adding a custom user.ini to the server. I've now removed this and tested it, and it seems that UTJMH is now again functioning normally. (Got random amp and deemer, ammo and health increasing)

Sorry for the glitch, hopefully fixed now.

Our way of handling servers is unique, and that doesn't give me access to mod-specific .ini's, so I can't check for that. However - that shouldn't have changed since it would only be me that would upload a new one.

I've rolled back to a server config used on the 8th Dec to see if that shows it. TBH I can't remember the white text for some time, could be it got turned off somehow ages ago. Bit wary of sending a new one, since it was a big struggle to get the correct settings in last time (was 3 lives, 20 minutes. Not much use for Alarm...)

Ah, LMS - yes. Special case for this server.

We had so many pairs of players who were misusing kickvote to keep the server private that we had no alternative but to disable to completely on the LMS servers. Removing it has completely stopped people using our public servers as private ones.

No plans to remove it on other servers (see the poll thread in here). Use !admin if there's a problem.

As I said Flash, it wasn't a mp.co.uk server, but I guess other Admins of other servers have taken the same initiative. (Funnily enough, on this other server people did talk about kicking me, because "UTDC: Adrena1in have been logged" messages would appear, and when I did quite well people would think I was cheating.

So has KickVote not been removed from MonsterHunt then? Gotta say I've never really looked...never wanted to kick anyone from that server.

Can't remember offhand to be honest - but if there's no player names on the right hand pane then it's been disabled in the mapvote config.

Played it through a couple of times with lots of people over the past couple of days and not seen anything like that. The worst behavior was some pulse drawing on the wall of willies and boobs... :)

Oh, and it still has that bug at the very end where a queen can telefrag another queen and the map doesn't count it, so even when all the queens are dead it's waiting for more and won't complete, needing a manual vote.

bad news :p

some problems occured today when we wanted to play the IndianaJones map.

first there was a version mismatch of the Blank.umx file
--> renamed it to download it again.
but right after download ut crashed in an critical error. not the general protection fault thing.. :roll:
was playin with 3 other players and it seemed that noone can managed to get online again. so i dont think that im alone with this problem.
?
maybe u can have a look at it.

..oh.. and the map 'Baikal-Beta' seems not to work. theres a connection failed and it starts with another map again.

Just a quick heads-up. There was a bug on MH that crashed a clients' UT during connection if their screen was > 640x480. Although you could window UT and connect, and after the first five seconds it was fine.

I *think* we've now fixed that - please report back if it still happens.

(I know there are some broken maps and corrupt files on the redirects, please also post the filenames of any and we'll try to fix and if not, remove)

Thanks for the post Dodo.

We know quite a few have map bugs too - like huge holes in the scenery that you can fall through. Since we don't have a PET MAPPER who wants to fix these little bugs, and there aren't so many maps around that we can afford to simply not play them, they're considered "part of the character...". They should all be completable though, at least most of the time.

Next lot: Those you mention. :)

flash you are welcome to ask for help in fixing some maps , i would be happy to try and fix if i can

Am confident those MH crashes on >640x480 were due to Anthchecker doing something with the renderer. Pure was also involved, which was never intended to run with MH. Both now removed entirely.
