Hola - snow getting a little slushy down low but still strong at 3400m :)

Best investment I have made this year is a pair of boots and custom molded inserts for them - I get through the morning pain barrier alot quicker now and can ride alot longer because my toes stay attached to my feet!

Rather sunburned and moisturising like a snow-ho - weather is amazing... see you all in a few weeks. :)

Low down getting a little slushy but over about 2200m still fine! Mostly cruising, chatting to large groups of german girls and applying sun-cream and/or moisteuriser ;)

Applying said creams to the german girls by any chance?

I didn`t take any unfortunately - slipped my mind! Yeah the custom molded insoles are for both - mine were 30 quid and a bargain at that.

Snow low very slushy now, but non-South-facing slopes up top still holding out. Roasting hot I`m burning every day even with factor 60!

Shouldn't need it for snowboarding boots.

Watchout for google marks, just came back myself and had the helmet / google mark and got the piss taken :)

We take the piss out of Afty anyway, ammunition only helps (£200 anyone?)

Shouldn't need it for snowboarding boots.Eh? The lads who fit them apparently do alot more for Snowboarding Boots than ski boots - it's much more important to have no (or little) heel lift when boarding as opposed to skiing...
Watchout for google marks, just came back myself and had the helmet / google mark and got the piss taken :)Yeah, I have the Panda Eyes though not too bad as I put some effort into reclining in the sun to cancel it out. Besides they're gloat-worthy :)

from my understanding boarding boots are comfy and if they don't feel right you tend to be wearing the wrong pair, not too worried just never heard of it before since their normally comfy enough :)

Very true! Might get the piss taken but at least you've been sunning it up :)

How did you find it?

from my understanding boarding boots are comfy and if they don't feel right you tend to be wearing the wrong pairNah, not at all - boarding boots are more *COMFORTABLE* than skiing boots, but they work completely differently. As such they need to be a much better fit than skiing boots in order to provide proper control and protection.

If your feet are an unusual shape (mine are narrow) then you will almost certainly require custom insoles to get a good fit - and most people with more "ordinary" tootsies also find they increase the comfort level of the boot alot too.

How did you find it?Bit poor tbh - better than late January when the MPUK massive tore up Les Menuires where it was very icy - but this last week was also a bit short on fresh snow. A reasonable amount up top but getting quite stony and icy by the end of the week - and slushy in the runs back to the resort. Amazing weather though - I've got sunburn on my ears and fore'ed despite wearing factor 60. ;)

My Thirty Two's the whole inner is heat molded to your feet, great fun putting them in the oven then standing in your boarding position for 15 mins :/

hmmmz might get some inserts i tend to suffer from ski boot agony, doesnt help i'm porky guy in the shop said i had slightly fallen arches and said i should get some inserts. the irony is when i finally get round to buying myself some boots after 15 years skiing i then get a mortgage and cant afford to go :P

i put them on occasionally and go "shhhh shhhh" and cry

Afty, how much did the custom moulded boots cost?

And holiday summary, best holiday ever, i do love ski'ing. and it came naturally too me, only thing i need to master is powder and black runs.

Afty, how much did the custom moulded boots cost? You can get 2 kinds - a simple one that I got which was 30 quid - they warm it up and put it in your boots then you walk around inthem for 15 mins.

The "better" more expensive type takes molds of your feet on a compressed air/rubber machine then uses those molds to "train" the heated inserts... supposedly better and about 55 quid, but mine were great for 30...

both just a matter of confidence imo, as long as you can ski to a reasonable level, after that its just confidence, ok you may not get down as quick or as stylishly but you can get down them.

trust me, if porky old me can do black runs you can too. i do avoid powder though, because i'm lazy :P

misread that, was thinking of boot customisation not insole. Won't go into boarding stuff anymore :)

Inferno, most decent ski boots (if you buy a pair) contain custom moulding in and they mould it to foot/ankle/leg there and then when you buy the boots (for no extra charge).

The insoles are different so depends what your after / where it hurts. Not sure if that helps.

Maybe you should have hired women's boots when we were in Les Menuires.
(Women's boots are designed around a narrower foot span)
