A lot of players complaining of spikes of lag;

I traced my last game if that helps;

Your issues start way before it hits Multiplay. You'll want to contact your ISP about that one.

It sure seems odd that there are so many complaints about all this lag ,from so many various ISP users for it to be only an ISP related problem .Some get it on one server and not another . You would think if it was only an ISP related problem there would have to be lag on all the servers for them . Now I know really nothing about this stuff but it seems strange that every complaint is being told it's their ISP and has nothing to do with the servers . I suppose this is possible but still seems strange .

Unfortunately that is what the evidence they provide demonstrates. It is the nature of the Internet that any given packet of information doesn't necessarily go by the shortest route, nor that it is given the priority that it deserves by the people carrying it, this is upheld by all of the data taken by the people experiencing lag. This is why WinMTR is such a useful tool, is show exactly where and how badly the traffic is affected at each of it's jumps around the internet and unfortunately most of the damage to it's performance has been done well before it enters a network under MPUK's control. Sad but true. The WinMTR trace provided show a connection that on the whole it good, but with occasional MASSIVE increase in latency, it's not the overall that the ISP needs to fix, they seem to be able to get the packets there at a good speed most of the time, but it is the huge ping spikes that they need to address, and I'm guessing that gaming traffic is way down the list of their priorities when deciding which should be help back and which should be allowed through at full speed.

So how come these same players can play on other public servers through the same connection without these spikes? :confused:

yes, still laggy for me...

here is a mtr i recorded while playing
imo its not a network problem, and never was...

Remember that each of these number indicate the time indicated to jump to a pont, and can equally be the fault of the previous jump point in sending as it could be the receiving point, the results indicate intermittant faults at the 3rd, 6th and 9th jumps 9th is the first where Multiplay would have any control over it and they may be able to do something about that if they can get in touch with the firm involved, but there are equally two more points of intermittant weakness in the chain which are beyond their control. In my experience Multiplay have always tried to interact with ISP to get the best for their customers, if you raise this as a support ticket (http://support.multiplay.co.uk)then I am sure that it will be given due consideration, and if it is within their power to improve the situation they will try. Your trace proves that there is an intermittant increase in latency at the last jump INTO the Multiplay network, equally it proves that there are two other points where the same is happening before it get to that point. Whilst Multiplay may be able to improve the sitaution from their end, I'm sure it would be helpful if your approached your ISP to see if they can fix the routing from theirs.

Thanks to you Techy Ninjas for your lethal darts of knowledge defending the good townspeople of MPUK from the moaning hoardes.

Unfortunately, I have no faith whatsoever that any communication from me to my ISP, NTL, will get a sentient reply.

BUT WAIT!!! - NTL is now Virgin Media isnt it - Hurrah - so everything will be different wont it?? er...no - in my experience, **** still smells even if you call it Brown Bottom Candy....

I´ve noticed that the second slv server (with relics) is less laggy than the first one. The second lags aswell, but not as much and as often as the first one.
