KermitTheFrag

dirt cheap AFAIK. I emailed them and will post prices ASAP.
Oh btw, not the Firewire port in the front of the second case!

I love the AL600 and AL700 cases
me want me want ;)

15th August 2001, 08:20
Okay just got mailed prices etc!!!!
first case (blue evil looking thing) has not been released yet therefore I cant get a price (or a review :p:)
secont case (AL600/700 - one of them has sloping front) is £215+VAT (expensive but worth it). These are a cut above coolermaster and Lian-Li ones from what I've seen!!!
I want the evil blue one for my NFS server. Big UNIX boxes (which that is!) must have funky looking cases (i.e cray style!). Thats just a fact!

I'm currently working on a project to house a dual processor server in an SGI Iris Indigo (http://www.obsolyte.com/sgi_indigo/) case.
Specs TBA but probably Dual PIII 550's, 512meg ram with many gigs of storage.
http://www.obsolyte.com/sgi_indigo/sgi_indigo.jpg
The Iris Indigo is (suprisingly) the indigo colored lump on the right hand side.

I've seen them (SGI) in the flesh, they don't look that good TBH.

PyscoFalcon: LOL put it on the desk ... it saves you kicking the crap out of it.
Cabe: nice idea that SGI mod!!!! Those cases are cool. (wishy you have no taste *grin*)
Have you seen the SGI challenge DM into Fridge conversion? ;)

I'm going to do something silly to mine for i9 -- just havent decided what yet. I have a 40x4 VFD display sitting here so thats going to be front mounted with temp readouts via LCDproc, laser cut window, more fans (yes more than the 2x80mm delta :D :D)
Considering upgrade first though. :(

I saw one of them in Tottenham court road. The silver looks a bit tackier than the promo photos (its stuck on silver foil type stuff) which is a bit of a sod :p: Could be chromed properly tho :D

heh.. the blue one looks better though :p: /me wonders whether the blue is a touch screen.... THAT WOULD R0CK!!!
Cabe
1st October 2001, 23:53
update, the modding for the SGI is comming along nicely, but ive hit a snag, does anyone know of anywhere selling 185watt or higher MicroATX PSU's in the UK.
wishy
2nd October 2001, 07:11
No. That could be a problem for dual processors. If you strip it down completely you could manage it. Think external SCSI drive bay with own PSU.

2nd October 2001, 09:15
anyone know where I can get a touch screen?!?

Depending what you want to do to your case, you may want to try to borrow the tools and do it yourself (the tools are expensive, my sandvik 116MM hole cutter was £30 for the blade and £13 for the carrier).
However I would say be careful who you let cut up or paint your case, there are some "lower than the required quality" people out there.
