With the national website currently in development and questions coming in already about the 2007 competition, please find below the Frequently Asked Questions and their current answers. We'll update this as and when new questions get asked whilst we await the site going live.

Q: When is WCG 2007 happening?

A: We're still in talks with Samsung UK about the details for the regional qualifiers and national finals for WCG 2007. As soon as we have finalised the plan it will be announced on the WCG 2007 national website (in development).

Q: What games have been chosen for WCG 2007?

The list of games the UK will send representatives for in 2007 is as follows:
1. Starcraft®: Brood War™ (PC) (1v1)
2. WarCraft® III: The Frozen Throne™ (PC) (1v1)
3. Half-Life®: Counter-Strike™(PC) (5v5)
4. Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars™ (PC) (1v1)
5. FIFA Soccer 07 (PC) (1v1)
6. Need For Speed™ Carbon (PC) (1v1)
7. Gears of War® (Xbox 360) (4v4)
8. Dead or Alive® 4 (Xbox 360) (1v1)
9. Project Gotham Racing® 3 (Xbox 360) (1v1)
10. Tony Hawk's Project 8™ (Xbox 360) (1v1)

Q: How many teams/players will go from the UK to represent each game?

A: We will be sending 1 team/player per game represented. This gives a squad size of 17 players.

Q: Who is running WCG 2007?

A: After the success of the 2006 UK tournament, Multiplay have been asked again to run the UK leg of the WCG 2007.

Edit 01/05/07: Official games list for UK 2007 competition finalised.
Edit 02/05/07: Added "how many teams/players go from each game"

I've split the mass discussion which ensued on this thread where people were putting forward various cases for which games should be played to another thread @ http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showthread.php?t=48551

Please keep this thread for general comments and questions about the WCG. We will then update the content of the FAQ accordingly. The decision for what games we will be representing from the UK in 2007 is still very much in flux and will likely not be announced until after i30. As stated before though we are hoping to be able to send at least 1 player for each of the major games. Not sure we'll be worrying about Carom3D though :p

So the 2007 will definitely use the Regional / National format again - what will be the main method of advertising the event?

I recall several people mentioning at the 2006 UK Final that they weren't even aware of the regionals, and had managed to qualify for the UK final just by turning up to the i-series event and putting their name down.

Are you going to be sending a Gears of War team? This is a game we could easily come out on top.

Not sure if you of ever heard of vBi, but they are a top american clan which we beat (on their host).

Also, when will the WCG UK site be live.

WCG UK site along with details of online and offline qualifiers and national final should be live a few weeks after i30, i.e. by the end of April.

i say no for gears of war.. we got good players in other games which are more respected and got bigger communities..

I'd say GoW is a yes, especially considering iG have beaten vBi (top 3 american 360 clans) on their host. And there are other decent teams in the UK as well, but i'm sure that a GoW team could do better than most other titles.

We don't just have good players in Gears of War, we have the best.

If you want a potential gold medal team to attend then I strongly suggest sending a Gears of War Team. Same applies for Tony Hawks Project 8.

List for UK representation in 2007 has been set (FAQ updated):

1. Starcraft®: Brood War™ (PC)
2. WarCraft® III: The Frozen Throne™ (PC)
3. Half-Life®: Counter-Strike™(PC)
4. Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars™ (PC)

10. Tony Hawk's Project 8™ (Xbox 360)

Games we have dropped (at present) are AoE3 and Carom3D. These may come back onto the list if additional funding can be sourced for them.

More details on qualifiers will be going live very soon. There will be both online qualifiers for most games, taking place June-July. We also hope to run a number of regional qualifiers, perhaps with a shopping centre tour like last year.

Impressive line up, surprised to see Tony Hawk's Project 8 ahead of Age of Empires though.

Either way, looks like a lot of people are going to get an opportunity on the world stage this year. Don't waste it!

Pretty sure I know the answer to this already, but I take it only one person/team goes for each game?

iG Jammy B

Well i'm not sure how we are meant to prove it, but we have 2 teams of 4 that will be going for this and I am 100% confident that 1 of them will be representing the UK. We have already beaten top US teams on xbox live, and also every decent team in Europe.

so is aoe3 a definate no go?

HamerD
7th May 2007, 23:27
Guys please think twice about aoe3. WE HAVE ZERO ZERO ZERO ZERO chance of getting ANYONE NEAR the knockout stages of starcraft.

But nightscr3am is consistently in the top 10 of aoe3!!!!

Please reconsider. We = die at SC

RK[CLL]
8th May 2007, 04:48
with that attitude we have no chance!! just get practicing now!!

Elsi
8th May 2007, 09:02
Lol, funny! We campained hard for SC, roughly 2 months ago? Where was your support? Nice little community you have.

Do you have any evidence of your success?

HamerD
10th May 2007, 11:59
This is completely ridiculous. Elsi i wish no offence but you have literally no chance of getting out of the group stages of wcg, unless you like get drawn against israel, latvia and iraq or something.

Nightscream is number 5 in the world at aoe right now. I don't need to show you a community. Just go to the ELO ratings website for TWC and look at the top ten in the game.

Even if pros are going to emerge and get up to the top, nightscream has a huge chance of getting far in the competition.

It's the fact that you guys can't possibly beat the other players that leads you to judge the ONLY contestant we have in RTS who has any chance of getting anywhere PURELY on how many people know about this website and support him??!!!

And btw I'm not Nightscream i just want us to like get a medal in a good game for once.

Beside
10th May 2007, 17:08
HamerD

I know Nightscream is a strong player but that doesn't mean the starcraft community needs to be attacked. Midian can beat any non-koreans at any time. He's played for many years, he's in (what I would consider) the #1 foreigner team out there.

Nightscream isn't guaranteed a medal, he's not guaranteed to advance from his group. He is a good player but don't make it seem like Starcraft has much less of a chance.

P.S. unlike TWC, Starcraft has good players in most countries around the world, both Latvia and Israel have at least one good player.

HamerD
10th May 2007, 21:51
Altho i expressly pointed out that my post wasn't an attack on the SC community, I accept what you say otherwise.

Midian does have a track record and is playing good SC and i guess the prestige for getting anywhere in that game is much higher than other games. I would still however expect that we don't have a top 5 player in the world for every OTHER game. I don't see why we can't send nightscream. The Finns and Swedish aren't sending players either and frankly it's insane because this means our guy has MORE of a chance of getting far!

I really think you should reconsider not buying a place for TWC in WCG. None of us british TWC players had any idea about this until like a week ago, where it was brought to our attention at agesanctuary.com

20th May 2007, 10:05
so any update on wcg uk qualifiers?

Nemesis.cF-
20th May 2007, 16:36
the starcraft community was livid at not getting any representatives last year... so if you want a slot find some1 else to take it out on, because there is an awful lot of sc fans from the uk that have waited a long time for this and worked hard to get it... (<3 elsi) we've been posting away at why we want sc to be played for months now and there is no way you can just come in saying "we have more chance to win on this game"...thats not what its all about, and also lets face it.. starcraft is alot harder to get in the top 10 rankings in the world on..

^_^ dont think about taking out cnc3 either, i met apollo, pureball and afew other good uk players last week at a tourney and i think we have a great chance of doing well, cant wait for the patch...

Because they have nothing to lose, if we don't win then they can go "ahhhh you should have sent an aoe3 player, and if we win then it'll all be forgotten" ;)

Or maybe I'm just a huge cynic.

Well looking at that facts of which one is that afew U.K player are top 5 in the world for age3 other than nightscr3am who has already posted here I know another 2 top 10 players who will do really well. So I cant say the same for sc or wc3.

ApolloUK
22nd May 2007, 15:35
Not much point saying, THIS PLAYER WILL WIN THIS, and THIS PLAYER WILL GO HERE AND GET THIS. If you believe you know some1 who has good potenetial, just get them to play in the qualifiers and then we can take it from there. Also forgot to say........... many players are online players, get them infront of cameras and an audience, things turn upside down in real life, things go a lot differnetly.

As it stands Nightscream is ranked 10th overall for TWC, but 7th for 1vs1 according to elorating.com.

If you want to check, make sure your looking at TWC: Supremecy.

Of the 6 players above Nightscream, as it stands, 4 of them will not be attending WCG as their countries are not entering the tournament.

Obviously anything can happen in one match and it is by no means a 'dead cert' that Nightscream will win, but bearing in mind there is not a lot of difference between the top players skill levels - he does have a good chance.

It really would be a shame if UK did not enter TWC.

And although we seem to be talking about only Nightscream, there are a few decent British players. I would love the chance to be able to qualify, being ranked around 4th-8th in UK according to elorating.com.
