Disable punkbuster?

This is in relation to a BF2142 server rented from multiplay..

A few people in my clan have vista and as you have probably heared it doesn't like punkbuster much at all.. We have tried a bunch of the suggested fixes, running as administrator etc none of which has worked so far, we will keep trying but as a temporary fix is it possible to disable punkbuster on the server?

I have tried setting sv.punkBuster to 0 in serversettings.con but it just changes it back when i save...

Is it possible to disable PB on these servers? if it is, how?

You cant disable PB on ranked servers I'm afraid. The best solution is to reinstall their machines with XP, Vista is simply not ready for games and I doubt it will be for a good year or so. I certainly wont be using it for the foreseeable future.

Yea thats what i thought, trouble is the computers came with vista, they would have to spend the £80 to get xp which they don't really want to do..

It won't let me disable PB on an unranked profile i just created either?

I believe they can actually downgrade free of charge, but that might be only with a full version not sure.

Or make a decsion.. play on unranked servers with Vista and no punkbuster, or play on ranked with punkbuster and Xp.. As others have said, Vista is not ready for games and wont be for a long while yet-- it is upto your clan mates to decide which they want to play on.. but they have to be aware that if they stay with Vista they will be hitting problems like this for a good while yet.

Although you have to wonder, why did PB not sort this out before release. Not as if the test versions weren't available...

You can downgrade OEM Vista Business & OEM Vista Ultimate to XP Professional, but those are the only 2 OEM versions with downgrade rights. :)

Downgrading from vista is a real pain for them, all i need to do is set the server to unranked (which i know how to do) and then turn PB off, but when i do, it just resets sv.punkbuster = 0 to = 1 again, even though it's unranked, is it not possible to have punkbuster disabled servers on multiplay hosts?

You can now do this at your own risk on unranked servers.
