OK - if you start the game with arguments /map Perftest on the end, you will get your SupComMark for your current resolution and detail settings.

I get 17,039 (minimum detail, 1920x1200).

Please do post your scores.

My strategic map looks fine - you zoom in?

afty
27th February 2007, 10:00
You have to Zoom in to control units, place buildings etc? Some of my buildings are < 1 pixel wide and high on strategic maps...
Mouse Wheel on high sensitivity makes it very easy to bounce between zoomed in for precision and zoomed out for control...

And besides, even on minimum everything the game still looks fine... it's a strategy game - it doesn't need coloured lights, surface reflections and other e-penis measurements. Strategy SHOULDNT look nice.

It's a strategy game. It doesn't need to look nice - in fact it's distracting if it does - most of us use the zoomed out strategic view for 90% of the game anyway - if you're zoomed in all the time you're going to lose heavily.

Furthermore, if having high detail slows your games down a bit then you get to play ALOT less games per night. I've seen games run at 5 seconds PER game-second which is just tedious and a waste of time.

If you're scoring 16000+ SCMarks then fine have some detail level, but for gods sake don't play with us if you play in high detail mode and refuse to turn it down despite crappy SCMark scores.

1920x1200 and max everything. 8xAA. And you know what? Makes f**k all difference from if i had everything on low. The reason for this? Unlike all modern games, SupCom is more processor intensive. Logic is to offload as much processing onto the graphics card as poss due to how powerful it is is comparison to the cpu and this is what games do. Except for SupCom keeping track of all these units. Furthermore it's P2P which has it's own overhead.

Basically you need atleast 2gig of RAM (seeing as it can sometimes use that AND all your virtual memory) and a high end Core 2 Duo/Quadro processor for it to run flawlessly. I can set my graphics however i want but it makes a blind bit of difference when it's my FX-60 thats the bottleneck.

Example? My housemate OptimAdam has a Core 2 Duo X6800 and a X1800 XT. I have an FX-60 and a 8800 GTX. I thrash his performance at every game but SupCom. Enough said really :P

CyberDrac
29th March 2007, 10:02
That's really quite a scary game when an FX60 is considered a bottleneck ... eek.

I think you'll find when playing a 2v2 and everyone is using shields all over their bases, nukes being set off left and right with experimentals you'll be thankful for people having their graphics settings on low as contrary to popular belief it does make a difference, a ****ing big one.

Granted processor does the majority of the donkey work, rendering on main core, rest on 2nd(spread across other 3) but gfx card does take a big part.

Don't believe me? compare Mine and Bvarks scores on same settings, he has Gefore 8800, I have 7950 in SLi(it dont use SLi). He has Duo Core 2 6600 I have x6800. Yet he outscores me.
