for the uninitiated (read: me) what actually just happened there?

Hmm its a bit in depth for the uninitiated, but I'll try to explain. First up, I'm in IAC so lightly biased ;)

The cast:
Thug, aka Evil Thug, leader of Against ALL Authorities alliance (AAA)
Count TaSessine, leader of Interstellar Starbase Syndicate alliance (ISS)
Band of Brothers alliance (BoB), these are teh enemy! (shh Hippo, Wizzy!)
Lotka Volterra alliance (LV), also teh enemy! (shh Semajal!)
Joshua Foiritain, makes maps and spies on people

The scene:
The region of space known as Catch, autumn 2006. The Ascendent Frontier alliance led by CYVOK have just completed the first Titan-class ship in the game. Rumours abound as to who will be the next to wield the gigantic e-peen!

The tale:
Basically, when you want to build a big ****off ship in Eve, you have to build it at a capital ship assembly array situated at a moon base (aka POS, or Player Operated Structure). These bases are capturable by the enemy, so its desirable to not let slip that a given POS is doing anything important, or its highly likely Mr Bad Man enemy type will bumrush it to take it down (see the Battle of JV1V-O for details of what happens when someone finds out you're building a titan somewhere).

So Evil Thug decides that the AAA titan shall be built outside of their own space, in a backwater system in Catch located amidst a sort of 'zone of neutrality' maintained by ISS. Thug sets up a corp in ISS to deal with POS issues and this info is discovered and revealed to Count T, head of ISS.

Apparently Thug and Count strike some sort of deal to keep the location of the shipyard safe. However shortly after this an AAA pilot lets slip that the shipyard exists during an argument with LV supporters. As a result, the plan to start titan production is put on hold for a week.

Meanwhile BoB catch wind of a mothership in production by AAA at this POS, and send out a force to take it down. They succeed, but the POS is empty at this point, due to the leak causing production to be put on hold. If they'd been a week later, they'd have blown up 150b worth of materials.

This doesn't really fill in all the gaps, but I hope its a start and yes, this is what Eve is like ALL THE TIME :p

If you recall the politics being good before, this whole 'all out war' thing going on is amazing. There is something happening ALL the time, I should start thieving material and make a TV series out of it :p

Pft BOB are brilliant and LV are also pretty damned nice. Oh and Count is an old friend of mine, founded ISS in my corp :P

I like a load of people from LV and Bob, doesn't me I don't think we should be shooting them though :p There's a few mouthy bastards that piss me off in both, but then thats true of any alliance.

As for Count and ISS, the same is true. I'm sure Count is a nice guy, he just threw in a few too many 'political lies' with the wrong people. The basic ISS plan was always sound, I thought.

its a multiplayer game and there are people all over that i have flown/fought with and against but because its a game it doesnt stop me shooting friends and then having fun afterwards about it
