View Full Version : Lack of Daemon access..BF2142

This is starting to cause problems for us and many clans alike.

Without Daemon access we have very few options to admin our server. Clanforge/Live control (which is a wonderful achievement and a great peice of software until it comes to the BF series) allows us to kick/ban people but doesn't show the most basic of information such as player scores, idle time, which side players are on and so on.. If I want to kick players to make room for clan members then I generally kick the player with the lowest score or the player who's been idle the longest. With CF I cannot do this.

Then there's BF2142CC. It shows us all the relevant information but like Clanforge has one major drawback.. It requires admins to alt-tab out of the game.

Now you might get away with alt-tabbing out of game a couple of times but sooner or later the game will crash. If you're fortunate to have a active server then throughout the course of an evening you may be required to kick people, warn people, change maps and so on a hell of a lot. With the current admin tools available to us this is a royal pain in the backside.

I've heard brief reasons offered to customers as to why we are denied daemon access but it would make life a hell of a lot easier. Ingame admin commands being the best and most obvious example.

As many other ranked server providers offer daemon access will Multiplay consider changing their stance on this matter? After all if people abuse the facility you can simply take the server away from them.

(Note - Crashing when alt-tabbing is officially recognised as a problem by DICE but their official line is "Alt-tab is not supported by Battlefield 2142" and wash their hands of any responsibility. Please do not reply with "well I can alt-tab without a problem" until you have tried to admin a busy server every night for months)

This isnt the answer you want, and im not the person your looking for an answer from but it may be of use.

Google for a program called shorty, using that you can setup predefined admin commands and bind them to a combination of key presses.

For exampl my profile is setup something like the following:
alt+numpad0= login to admin on EA UK servers
alt+numpad1= Login to admin on clanserver
alt+numpad2= kick player....
alt+numpad3= ban player...

etc etc.

to use these you just drop down the console and use your keybind. You can set shorty to automaticly execute your command, or wait for further input, eg admin login auto executes, player kick waits for further input, in this case the player ID.

And ofcourse you can setup different shorty profiles for different games, any thing that uses an rcon system basicly.

It doesnt have a flashy GUI, but it is the most useful admin tool i have ever used.

Oh and try admining 60 odd EA UK servers for months on end then i'll feel sorry for you :P

If I can get that to work then great! It's better than the current system I'm struggling with.

A couple of clan admins have tried using the console commands. Some of them worked but others such as "admin.kickPlayer [player ID number]" did absolutely nothing.. No error message but after pressing enter it jumped to the next line in the console and they player "kicked" carried on as normal.

Finally I've googled for "shorty" and "admin shorty" but amongst the various results I couldn't spot anything obvious. Any chance of a direct link?

ClanForge Live Control does show player score. We can add idle if require but thats what the idle kicker it for. With BF2142 there's no need to kick players to make room for clan members simply setup reserved slots which will take care of all of this without the need for manual intervention.

In Game Admin is something I'm working on but after working with a number of clans in the BETA I'm currently in the process of a fairly major update to enable the features they requested that I've actually been on holiday ( shock I know :p )

The reasons why we dont support BF2142 has been covered a number of times in these forums if you look. These reasons havent changed unfortunately but we do keep a close eye on its development.

hmm i cant see it any more either. I have a copy at home and shall see if i can get it hosted some where as it is a superbly simple tool.

And the secret to BF rcon commands is case sensitivity. Or at least it used to be a pain in the arse like that.

I could have sworn live control didn't show the scores for BF2142. Is this a recent addition?

Either way it still requires us to alt-tab but this In game admin you mention certainly sounds interesting. Is the beta now closed or is there any possibility of being added?

I hate reserve slots on servers thats like 4 places spare if not used all day/night. We just kick if we need a space/s.

The good news is i found my copy of shorty, the bad news is i totally forgot to upload it to the FTP, i shall do so tonight!

To help get you started i'll include a basic profile ready setup to do common commands.
Just remember when entering your own commands, make sure the case is correct as i think the BF series is still fussy over case sensitivity.

As promised heres shorty

ftp://ftp.multiplay.co.uk/pub/apps/shorty/shorty_admin_tool.rar

Ive written a little intro guide for it and included a basic match profile for bf2 to atleast give you an idea...but it is all very simple easy to figure out.
