Or, 'why Eve rocks'. The story is from last year and you might have seen it before, but I think its worth adding to the forum for the sake of completeness.

Plus, it's pretty awesome (http://eve.klaki.net/heist/).

Any link to the Buena Vista Social Club? :p

...I haven't actually read it yet, I'll feel a right fool if there is.

A very interesting read, stuff like this is what is needed to keep a MMORPG alive, something to raise the hackles (or a glass), without this things can stagnate.

I was thinking last night about this being "the biggest heist". I would have to disagree as I recall the guild leader Repression of Relentless Accension on Morell Thule server in EQ1 ripping off his entire guild vault and leavig the game with millions of Plat(in game currency) as at the time they were a leading Guild within the game. He sold the plat for over $30,000 and bought a house with the down payment since I was good friends with one of his guildmates.

At the time think it was around 2001, 10,000 Plat sold for $120.

I guess they mean biggest heist in terms of not only the amount stolen, but the amount of planning that went into it. Cleaning out a guild vault is hardly criminal mastermind thinking.

Last year the owner of an Eve ingame bank legged it with the funds, which I think would total over $100,000 if Ebayed. Again, it was just a case of 'it's there. Now I can take it!' which isn't the most artful technique ever employed, however profitable :)

I'd imagine there's been some huge scam in a Korean RPG that's been worth more than any of the above though, just we've not heard of it...

Yes I recall several WoW korean/chinese guilds that have over 250 active raiders running 4-5 BWL instances etc.

Bound to be some dodgy bastard amongst that lot that ripped off teh guild vault.

As i came across one of these guys on eve-o forums, i thought i`d bump this thread up for the newbs to read...

Very cool... and eve is currently the only game that LETS you get away with stuff like this :D (afaik)

Any game that lets you legitimately steal $16,500 worth of someone elses assets really has to be awesome :psy:

(Its also worth noting that this thread is #3 on google when you search for "guiding hand social club" lol)

Aardvark, tell us the story behind the guy who was in GHSC, went into IAC at director / ceo level (?) then decided it would be fun to nick supercapitals from his own corp/alliance members.

TT wasn't really a big part of GHSC, and was a CEO of Umcon / Alliance leader for a time much longer than it was worth just to steal a few supercaps :P

TT saw IAC going to hell and chose to profit from it on his way out. It wasn't really a big scheme compared to the original GHSC shenanigans.
