Right, start the community fad engine! :)

Do you want to fly around and pew pew the ungodly heathens that dare to encroach upon your areas of space?

Do you want epic, 100+ vs 100+ fleet battles on a daily basis?

Do you want a game where losses can really HURT the enemy, instead of tedious 'res, get back in there'?

Do you want a game where some mug funds your early endeavours?

Then you want to be playing Eve Online. More specifically, you want to be joining the MPUK corporation and being part of a fleet of ravening PvP deathgerbils!

After a long time spent thinking about how I could get a bunch of people off these here forums to play the frankly AMAZING game that is Eve, I figured that cutting out the boring, finding your feet section of the game would be a good starting point (also, no mining). To this end, I've created a corp to hand out FREE, fully fitted tech1 frigates, essentially everything you need to be part of an effective PvP frigate swarm. I'm also writing this short guide on how to create an effective starting character and explaining why things don't suck as much as they did for newbies back when you last tried the Eve trial.

First up, starting characters now get skills equivalent to 2 months or so training under the old character creation system. No more sitting training skills for days before you're even remotely effective, you're poised to rain firey death from the word go!

Firey death rain sounding good? Sign up for a free 2 week trial (https://secure.eve-online.com/ft/?aid=103835&nogreet=1) and download the client. Once you're patched, there are a few key things to do when creating your character to ensure you don't suck major donkey cock.

1) This is sort of optional, but it'd help me out if you chose Minmatar as your race. It also means you don't have to spend 40 mins travelling to the MPUK home system.

2) When choosing race and allocating attributes, bear in mind that attributes affect skill training time and NOTHING else. This means its generally best to put points into the important training areas you intend to focus on. For combatish types, this generally means, in order: (i) Perception, (ii) Intelligence and Willpower, (iii) Memory, (iv) Charisma. Generally, the gap between Perception and Memory should be no greater than about 4 points, and Charisma should be shunned like that kid at school that talked funny and dribbled on himself.

3) Choose the Military -> Soldier skill path. This gives Gunnery and Small Projectile Turret level 5, which is tres good as a newbie for the shoosting! Bear in mind for future training that Projectiles are the Minmatar weapon of choice, although you can cross train onto other racial ships and weapons as you progress if you feel the need.

4) Please to be trying not to make an ugly character (harder than you think) ;)

5) Name your creation and enter the game!

Now thats all sorted, the first thing you'll find ingame is the tutorial. Now, the number 1 tip appears right here. RUN THROUGH THE TUTORIAL! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! YOU WILL THANK ME LATER SOLDIER! Eve is a daunting game to start out with, the tutorial will help no end. However if you've played Allegiance you'll probably find it as simplistic as Pong :)

After you've run through the tutorial, fly on over to the Kronsur system. You can use the search tool in the map to find it easily. When you're there, the MPUK corp (Pat Sharp's Potato Rodeo, how original!) office is situated at Illinfrik VIII - Moon 1 - Trust Partners Trading Post. Click on the Offices tab on the bottom half of the station services panel and scroll down til you find PSPR. That's us! Select Join Corp and identify yourself on the application, I'll process it ASAP.

As far as initial skills to train, Propulsion Jamming I/Weapon Upgrades I/Repair Systems I are the books you'll initially need to buy (corp provided, don't worry), and the best thing to train of your current skillset would be Minmatar Frigate to level 4, then Engineering to 4. I'll be posting more in-depth skill guides as we go on.

Summary:
Get trial account (https://secure.eve-online.com/ft/?aid=103835&nogreet=1).
Create char, charisma is a **** attribute, BE A SOLDIER.
***DO THE TUTORIAL!***
Get to Illinfrik VIII - Moon 1 - Trust Partners Trading Post and join PSPR.

My char name is Vando, send a mail ingame or find me in IRC if you've got problems. Consider #mpukeve to now be live ;)

This is a fun game, I'm telling you. Mining sim this ain't :)

(any current Eve players, please shout if I've missed anything important in this thread)

Adding a tip for mission runners: getting Connections up to 3 really helps you push on to level 2+3 quickly if you're finding lower levels too easy.

just out of interest you folks playing this at i30?

more I read about it the better it sounds to watch somebody who knows what their doing :)

Does it start off PvP straight away or have you got some breathing room before being picked on?

You start off in well policed sectors, so you dont have to fight PvP for a long time if you dont want to.

On the other hand, I imagine you'll be wanting to... :p

Curse you for this thread. I was ok. Safe in my BF world. Now I've discovered a universe with 29,000 online players some of whom are really nasty and now I've lost two nights of sleep already this week. What a fantastic game.

I agree with Hippo about the lack of sleep since Beta for Eve ...

And once I am signed up if anyone is looking for some guidance come find myself and Sid. We usually have a few 14 day trial code scratch cards about if you can't be bothered to wait for someone to pass you a buddy code :icon15:

I'll also make sure I have the latest client build to drop on a pendrive for anyone who isn't patient enough to download that ;)

I would recomend anyone to play EVE. Its the best mmo there is. Problem is its very unintuitive at first. So you need a help getting going.

The best of EVE is PVP. I fly for Finfleet which is part of Lotka Volterra alliance.
LV have just lost all their 0.0 stations to Red Alliance, Goon.. others coalition. But we are going to come back for more.

PS I have been on goon TS in the lobby and had many a civil chat so i am not looking for a smack war with goon on these forums lol.

Ive recently reactivated my account, and brought 2 of my friends with me into EvE. I feel even more confused than when i left now. Other than logging in every couple of days to train a skill im stuck as to what todo, where to go etc.

Id like something that me and my 2 friends can go off and do, and pvp isnt an option due to our obviously under-skilled characters. Help?

make money and get yourself and your mates used to the game and comfortable with it, so you can do mining, missions, trading, killing npcs. it doesnt matter so lang as you are making money and getting acquainted with the game. i would recommend trying all of them so that you get a feel for them and make the decision of what you prefer.

pvp can be done at any level of skill points, the main thing is to have fun and dont fly what you cant afford to lose.

maybe find a largish established corp to join and that way you will have access to cheap materials, a wealth of experience and plenty of people to fly with.

Hi.

I forgot this post was here. As such I am not a generic MPUK clone, paving my own path and my own destiny! ;p

Will see you tonight no doubt :)
