This forum is pritty much dead, but i wonder if anyone is still playing Dawn of War or not (best bet is its collecting dust somewhere for most people)
Have been playing tons of Dark Crusade online and was wondering if there is actually any ppl within the Multiplay community who also are playing it online :) ?
Btw, its a great expansion pack for the original, far better than Winter Assault

Some of us still play it :P
Not at all happy with DarkCrusade though...
IG is now practically unplayable (their strength being tanks and zergs of Orgryns+Kasrkins...now limited to 2 tanks, 1 of each infantry)
Same goes for my tactic using SM dreadnaughts and terminators... that's now completly unsalvage able :\ to minus points from me...
The new races and units are overpowered (Dosent help that the first and latest patch for the expansion..ONLY adds subtitles to the cinematic)
It was also advertised badly, offering a new way to play with fully customisable commanders and powers... they just didnt mention it was limited to single player, and even then it was a case of "1, 3, 5, wins = an pre set unlock", so not really "fully customisable".
The campaign also lacked...content... no story line at all, its very repetative...the hilight of the whole thing being "Destroy Unit A, Take Item B to location C" style missions.
It's a standalone game, rather than an expansion.
You dont need Dawn of War or WinterAssult to play it (only to get the most from it).
If you havent already, I wouldnt recommend buying Dark-Crusade, at least until they ship out some major balancing patches anyways. It's already been out for a few months (came out in the US months before UK), so theyve had plenty of time, but not made any effort

Kinda disagree with you, yes its a stand alone - Buts its still an expansion really if you want to play online as you would be limited to only the 2 races from the Dark Crusade (Tau and Necron) its best to have all 3 copies to play all the 3 races and get the most out of the entire game(s)
IG arnt unplayable they have always required macro with them and i've been watching alot of replays of some 'expert' players beat v.good Necron players (which atm is being called the most imba race) it takes more skill to be able to win with them. The game is slightly unbalanced atm but all races have there strong points and weak points just because it means you can't be a lazy player when playing IG or SM doesnt mean there in need of a huge fix or massive patch to fix everything.
Also i don't know if u play online alot but i've heard that the Necron squad cap is actually broken and it was never meant to be able to go that high and they will cut down the limit of it (dunno if u ever been mass spammed by tons of flayed ^^?)
The Campaign did lack content or story line but what do u honestly expect from an RTS ? The missions are quite repetative and there was some different style's of missions to do just like previous RTS's, maybe ur comparing this to C&C Style compaigns where u get nice little movies here and there and stuff and they concentrate on the Story line alot more, this is Warhammer and i think it does it very well and hope they release some more games (DoW2??)

Ill put together a better reply later, just getting ready to head off to college.
But "what did I expect from an RTS", well after having played the original DoW, which had a good campaign, WA which had an ok campaign (didnt fit in with the cliffhanger type ending of the original)...and yes other RTS, like C&C, Warcraft, etc.. All have something like a story line which they follow, giving something a little more entertaining than "Fight on the same 5 maps 10 times, then play a minigame"
For all the hype and expectations DC had, it was a real letdown

I think the addon is ok. I don't care for multiplayer, just the SP campaigns. DoW original was good, a little short but enjoyable.
The DC addon pack, well it has a few things to spice it up. There are a decent amount of maps, but mostly they're the same and are very multiplayerish to give all sides a lvl playing field. Some of the maps where you win different rewards (forward base, rage, etc) are more thought out, as are the enemy bases.
The rest of the maps however are quite tedious, especially the larger ones. Once you've worked out how to play a race you're doing the same build order, creating the same units and going for it.
I like the new races, different styles of play and I like the idea of the armour addons for your commander, although he does get a little too powerful once you have a few (especially with Tau).
Overall though I found it a good play, considering it's an addon.

I am a complete newbiee to gaming and wanted to know how to activate the cheat codes on Dawn of War.
I have read on several websites about entering the game in "-dev" parameter:confused:  Then pressing Ctrl + Shift + ~.
How do I do that then when starting the game? Any help would be gretaly appreciated.

The DC is a stunning expansion or standalone game whichever way you look at it.
The single player while a bit repetitive allows you to get a good grasp of all the races in prep for online gaming without getting your butt kicked again and again online.
As for the races being unbalanced, prehaps one or two really issues but in a game that is sporting seven races that all play very very differently your asking a lot to have it perfectly balanced.
Most 'balance' issues like a SM Land speeder rush does have a counter and is not all that hard to stop and if you do leave them short of cash and exposed to your next attack.
I think the best part about DC though is the changes they have put onto the unit caps.
The caps are exactly how it should have been played from the begining. It means people need to use the whole selection of units avalible and stops it becoming a zerg fest of elite units.
Imps, Cypher, still own and I'll give you a match to prove it. :-P
People playing quick start High resource games pay attention here. There is no skill in teching to teir 3 and putting the hardest units on autobuild and spaming them.
It makes for a boring and poorly played game.
If you enjoy it then sorry it was ripped out. Moaning about not being able to do it any more is faliure to look at the other styles of play that you could possibly enjoy more. Although maybe not.
If Anyone fancys a game you'll find me on at least once a week under Godfish22 or A_Coy.
Imps FTW!
