Hi Folks
Probably a stupid question. But here goes.
Im planning an xbox360 LAN party soon. Ive got a 50 port network switch (48 @ 10/100 and 2 @ Gigabit)
What I was wanting to do was to use two PC's connected to the gigabit ports to host dedicated servers for the most likely games. That way I can keep control of the servers and it does not require any of the customers to do anyhting.
Does anyone know if this is possable? And a link to the info I need would be really sweet.
Thanks.

Thats a negative, have never seen any dedicated server software for 360 games on a PC. But you dont need it - the xbox will happily host games while playing them I dont think its an issue :P
Got a website for your event yet? I'd be intrested in popping down if its not too far away

I know the 360 will happily host most games. And because its on a LAN the host advantage should be minnimal. It was more to do with me knowing exactly what was going on. I just like knowing statistics.
If the event is going to go ahead (will probably be feb march april may time of 2007) it will be held in Aberdeen. Il keep these forums up to date with the info should it go ahead.
Il make sure stick a website up if I do decide to go ahead. The first thing I need to do is to physically get ahold of the switch (eBay FTW) and actually start investigating wiring and setups required.

Indeed. I was interested too but that's a bit too far.
Good luck on the event though.

How about holding it in the more central part of the UK?
www.inknet.co.uk?

It's a good idea.
Was wondering, is there a bigish group of consoles at i-series nowadays? was thinking about reappearing at one with 360 maybe next year

I asked this in the XBox forums and they said the same thing, though it was suggested to use an XBox as the server and get people to add it to there friends so they can join.
I was told some games on the original xbox let you start a dedicated server so the xbox running them didnt take up a player slot.

Rainbow Six Vegas offers a dedicated server option when creating a server, maybe useful for a lan party. (As long as one person doesnt mind not playing)

I seem to notice nowadays that more and more of the live games are supporting less and less players. All I really wanted to do was to host 4 servers (2x GoW, 1x RS Vegas, 1x Halo2) on the gigabit ports just to provide the absolute lowest pings possable. That way also the ammount of m customers who need to host servers is also much lower.

I would think you would need to get 3x XBox 306 & 1x XBox then to run them as dedicated servers. I wouldnt think you would see much benefit over a network though.
Maybe if you were having big servers running but GoW only rooms 8 doesnt it? So theres probebly no need for anything dedicated.

From what I've seen of Xbox games, most games dont even display your ping, or they show it as a coloured graph. Bear in mind the games are designed to be played over peoples dodgy home broadband connections I'm sure every game will run at top performance "ping" wise without having to go to this effort :P Plus the Xbox dosnt have a gigabit ethernet port so there would be no benefit in doing that.
