To avoid last years travel arrangement minibus "oh no we go skiing next week and we've got no way of getting there" catastrophe! I thought i'd start this thread ASAP so we can get our travel arrangements sorted nice and early while they're cheap :)
So to start it off;
The ski train looks like a good option at £109 return.
Looking at flights, there are many flight options at varying prices, £67 - 139.
Bvark, if you can find out what time we have to leave the chalet on the last day and can get there for on the first day il aquire some decent flights.

I suspect as always they'll be flexible. We'll probably be getting the ski-train in so will be dropping our bags around midday, getting changed and going boarding on the Saturday morning.
None of the flights I looked at were any good (£159+). Where are you looking, and from which airport?

The prices that i quoted were from Stansted to Lyon, but they were not too much dearer to Grenoble.
Good thing about the ski train would be no extra cost for taking skis/board

I still maintain that a minibus is the hax cheap option. But if you lot can't be swayed, I guess the train of DEATH can be done again...

Oh, I should point out the £109 ski train is the change-in-paris version. The direct version is £199/£209 each.
When you're figuring in costs for the ski train remember it arrives in Moutiers though, which is only about 30 minutes from Les Menuires.
Oh, and we've just booked our snow train seats:

I was unimpressed with the ski train last time (not enough room for tall people on those bunks) so will be trying to avoid it and instead aiming to head over with the flying contingent.
Transfer is the usual issue - will look into it after I get back from hols and we have a better estimate of numbers flying in.

I take it that you will be going from a Northern air port?

Aard if you get some prices then it could be a possibility
Oh, and we've just booked our snow train seats:

Will it still be possible to get a compartment / seats together:confused:

Seem to have prices from brum of around 150 I'm trying to fly at all costs, but really flying isn't the major issue for me it's the transfers at the other end.

Mingtea: Groodles has found some good deals on flight & transfers on public transport from Chambery (and Brum)
Pingman: We didn't get an option to select a carriage when we booked -- don't know if you can on the one ex-paris.
The rest: So we know how 10 people are getting there - how about the other 10 :-)

Hmnnn went to book ski train, and after a quick refresh the train everyone appears to have booked on has dissapeared and some other abortion has manifested itself for nearly twice the price (and at different times). Hopefully its just the site playing silly buggers but if not has anyone any other suggestions for cheapo travel ?

Right im booked on the ski train all on my own :(
Hopefully RYV will be later too, do you rekon there is any way we can get a carriage for the actual ski train on our own even if we are scattered on the euro star?
The cheapest that was left was pesant class for the way out and the next one above pesant class for the way back, so il get a meal. came to £149.
Been researching some flights and transfers, us southerners can fly with easy jet cheap:
£54 (Leave London at 18.20, arrive at Lyon 21.05. the leave Lyon at 9.30 and arrive in London at 10.10)
£135 (Leave London at 11.50, arrive at Lyon 14.35. the leave Lyon at 15.05and arrive in London at 15.45)
A bus from Lyon air port to Les Menuires is 90EUR return, takes 3 hours. If there had of been enough of us we could of booked a mini bus, which only takes 2 hours. Not sure of the price of that, but worth considering for next year at least.
