IGN did a video report about a similar incident in their office:

They had a load of non-gamers from the marketing department come in and have a go. One girl was really going for it playing the tennis game. She let go of the remote, the strap snapped, and it smashed into the wall. The funny thing was, despite breaking into 3 pieces, when you clip them back together it still works!

I think the message is clear: This controller is for non-sweaty gamers with the ability to hang on to their controller. :p:
