yep, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, Carbon comes with the same ingame advertising **** that 2142 does.

vote with your wallets. EA's objective is to make money for their shareholders. if the advertising costs more than it earns, then it's not worth it.
random thoughts: i wonder if you can slashdot IGA's servers? do the console versions have to take this crap too?

doubt it as most consoles will be offline unless its all preloaded on to the disc

Somone needs to make an Anti-EA/IGA page containing what games do what exactly and how to bypass them. I'm sure if the information was more widespread then people wouldnt buy their products or disable the ads so IGA don't profit.

Rich - There is no need for that at all.
All that is neccessary is that people stop buying the games that incorporate IGA. And they are all clear seeing as the following message appears inside the box.

Yeah, but most people dont realise exactly what this means until after they have brought it and start seeing ads in game. And even less people will know how to bypass it

Bypassing it is no use. It still would result in the game being sold and EA making their money.
Personally, im going to vote with my money and refuse to buy any games in future with this software on it.

Someone care to enlighten me as to what this software is?

IGA = In Game Advertising?
I'm guessing this is where some code in the game downloads new content for billboard-able areas, and does nice things like keeping stats on how often you look at the board, how long for, what angle, etc. Which no doubt then gets sent off to some company to help them annoy you even more.
127.0.0.1 in the hosts file for the relevant servers it tries to communicate with is generally a quick fix.

which is kinda pointless in carbon as either a) Billboards go by to fast to notice anyway or b) the motion blur makes them unreadable
and doing the localhost loopback shizzle, knowing EA will more than likely cause the games to go "LOL IM NOT WORKING NOW HARHAR!" or something :(

Deny port 17475 on your router/firewall. No more ads. Same as BF2142

EA continue their trend of charging on xbox marketplace for stuff that's probably already in the game: http://www.gamerandy.com/archives/2006/11/ea_games_are_at.shtml
