I pronounce it MUD.

Its bee-ta, obviously. I feel than anyone who pronounce it bay-ta, is doing it just to wind me up.

The other one which really annoys, is dah-ta instead of day-ta.

Bee-ta is the UK pronunciation.
Bay-ta is the US pronunciation.

There's no 'correct' way of saying it it's just our language has evolved over the past 200 years where as the American language has pretty much been static since the emmigration.

According to the guy who created and named it, it's lin-ucks. (http://www.jx90.com/download/torvalds-says-linux.mp3)

But I'm heard it pronounced quite alot as lie-nuck, lin-ics and lie-nics.
