The books thread is not astroturf or spam of any kind. Every user who has posted in the thread is fairly active and has posted in various other threads with relevant comments.

They are not astrotufing bots if this is what you were hinting at.

But feel free to post any comments about ham and/or cheese in here.

I'm with bvark on this, reading back through the thread they are blatant astroturfers. Only replying to what the other has said, and always almost immediately. Maybe they've subscribed to the thread and always happen to be at the computer when the other replies, but I'm willing to bet astroturfers.
