There was someone botting on the DM server just moments ago. Apparently the !admin trigger is useless...

Then again it would appear that some do not

As i told you azura you can visit #mpukunreal on quakenet to find an admin.

It might be likely that these admins are busy though.

Hi, thanks for letting us know azura and I appologise for no one responding, we do have three levels of admin cover for the publics, the first is the !admin trigger which as you say sometimes doesnt guarantee results, but around 75% of admin triggers are answered promptly. The second is #mpukunreal on quakenet irc, this is where the unreal admins can be found for a chat or server problems. The third is #mpukhosting on quakenet, this is manned between the hours of 10am-10pm where a member of the multiplay server team is paid to answer clanserver queries, these staff members can also ban on the public servers should the public admins not be responding.

yes the email is on the servers, those emails go through to the multiplay staff and are then passed onto me, alternatively you could just email me direct at neophyte@multiplay.co.uk

[10:03pm] <Guigsy> thats true
[10:03pm] <@Doccybyte> is this on a public or rented server Azura?
[10:05pm] <@Doccybyte> #mpukunreal deals with our public servers, this channel is for customers experiencing trouble with their rented servers

My fault for not knowing the unreal channel in the first place (where is it posted ?) but I kind of expected the !admin trigger to get some response like on Truff's.

Dussander >> Perhaps you find some people who "have no lives" ? I'm sure there's a trustworthy student or two out there who'd be only to happy to help.

If that isn't an option then it would be nice to know when there's no admin coverage so one can avoid these players that start off playing like everyone and suddenly decide to switch their hacks on in the third game.

I'm one of those people that do "have a life" and thus must limit time online to the late hours. It's for the fun and technique also, but it's useless when someone decides to ruin the game for everyone.

Anyway, I see I've already been classified as one of the unwanted. It's strange how someone can be so quick to transit from the role of a helpful guy to a vilain. All you have to do is to get on the wrong edge of someone that doesn't know you.

That's good because I don't intend making friends, or even ennemies. I now know better than to complain about bot because it's apparently unworthy of consideration. In the future, I'll let someone else do this and go elsewhere if the problem persists. I'll go pollute some other forums from now on.

P.S: I've got a demo if anyone wants it.

I don't think "Apparently the !admin trigger is useless..." and "!admin doesn't work" is the right way to go around things. Perhaps if you made a more polite complaint you would come up with a polite answer.

sorry azura, we are trying to track these muppets down, ignore those without @ in there only the @'s are mpuk staff.

Politeness goes in two ways. Without that you're going to have trouble creating mutual respect. And if another party starts off on the wrong note, it would take infinitely less effort to direct them in the right way instead of heading towards some antagonism.

If someone can explain how to avoid such time-wasting responses as follows, I'm open to some self-improvement.

[9:57pm] <SilentMike> Me being part of the MPUK community i think i do have the right to idle in any channel i choose
[9:58pm] <SilentMike> So stop this silly behaviour
[9:58pm] <SilentMike> and suck my peen

With that said, I can imagine the work you might have put in admin response and other things . I'm not going to spit on that as the servers are open to anyone and are basically free. I'm just blasé after having had to put up with the eccentricities of Jolt admins for example. I'm not saying you are like them but it takes more than a forum plonked on a web site to build up a community. I'm sure you realize that more than anyone Dussander.

I have to say this to any IRC users that are from the UK. From past experience I've noticed that a few people seem to have a short fuse. I don't know whether it's because people from elsewhere are trouncing the language (some of them having learnt english online where stfu, fu and other lovely expressions are mainstream) or because of a different level of sensibility. Whatever the case, perhaps a bit more patience would be useful even if the other party is getting to you. I'm saying this because I'm half English myself and can appreciate viewpoints on both sides.

And please avoid taking this last comment as xenophobic or whatever. It is pure observation and I'm in good position to realize how it could be taken as I was informed on Friday that cannot give a drop of blood in the country I live in due to having lived more than 6 months in the UK between 1980 and 1996.

Finally, I know myself what I might have done wrong. Ideally, I should have known what the UT mpuk channel was and expressed myself more clearly. I got off on a bad start on these forums too with my "advertising". Heck, my biggest mistake was assuming I'd find something like Truff's. If there is work in progress than good. Me, I prefer hanging out with people who are nice, friendly and with which I can speak as equals.

P.S: Here's another excerpt from the logs. I guess I have a short fuse too.

It's ok, I'm just having a harmless rant and there is nothing to fix. I should learn to write a book someday with all the paragraphs I come up with when inspired :p . As for people, they and only they choose how they are. Either I accept it or I don't.

As for muppets on the servers, I just find it a shame that information has been lost (ip, time, player name). If you have utstats up and running, that would be useful. The botter last night spoke only german and the hack he was using didn't seem to have any ping compensation (lots of missed shots). I will send a demo if you want it.

Trust me, none of it has been lost ;)

I have everything we need. If you could email the demo to igloo (at) multiplay.co.uk i can sort it out!

it's a sad side effect of mpuk growing, I used to love chatting in there but now you have about 5-6 idiots that make up about 95% of the conversation. So whilst im in there I just dont speak anymore, prefer the more friendlier #mpukunreal channel. The mpukunreal publics are just a tiny part of a much larger community, and its people within that larger community that are probably gonna spoil all the hard work and effort the admins have put into this, which is a shame really. All we can really do is make sure our little corner of mpuk is polite and friendly and just ignore the rest of it untill the issues you've pointed out above are sorted out (if that ever happens). But yes I agree #multiplay is a problem atm.

I know Azura wouldn't come looking for an admin without good reason, I've dealt with his calls before ..... one was a very impolite chap on the Truff DM server, remember Az ....

Please don't give up on us Azura .... we're still here doing the best we can .... but as anywhere there are those who like to make things difficult for anyone they can .... :(
