to quote source = http://www.gamebrink.com/news/602-Miyamoto_The_Interview_Part_2.html

Shiguru Miyamoto:

The hardware is basically a GC. We’ve upgraded our development tools to new versions but, you can still use GC programs as they are. With that in mind, I thought we could remake GC titles for the Wii and modify them to work with the Wii remote so that they’re more fun to play."

"Recently, we finally reached the conclusion that the Wii isn’t a console seeking for the next generation graphics."

its an interesting idea.

Nintendo are either going for the big "game" playing experience over the "wow look amazing graphics". a very shrewd approach against the like of MS and Sony..

i knew this for some time, they said from day one the wii known then as the Revolution will offer the same kind of graphical performance of the Gamecube but with a new approach to gaming, then the wii and its remote was annoucened and i knew what they ment.
And i think it will pay off, this has been a make or break decision by Nintendo, they are trying to open up gaming to a new audience by making games easier and funner to play.

Ok Sony and Microsoft have gone for the wow factor and improved graphics but how far can you go with this?!? Also nice shinney graphics invole long development times and therefore increased costs of these titles, and frankly some game firms *cough* EA *cough* spend alot of time making games look pretty and not enough time making games fun to play
There is only so much you can do with the standard console controller, before putting too many buttons on there and turning it into a basic keyboard.

These are just my thoughts on this matter

tbh, i'd rather see a low tech game, with a great art direction well realised that really fits the game, than a high tech game that overloads you with details you never notice

Its not gonna as crisp as the Xbox or the ps3, but like i said, GFX will be fine... imo

yeah, I agree I just think it would be nice to have the "whole package"

ie PS3 owners can say they have the best looking games, but they play like unoriginal crap

Wii owners have fun original games (which is more important ofc) but they look like the graphics we where seeing come out 5 years ago.

Maybe they should combine the technologies and come up with the Playstation Wii

The more I look at the Wii, the more I want to get one for the house at Christmas. Games that everyone can play.
Ability to play old GC games.
Ability to download even older games through an online service.
Link by wifi to your DS.If Nintendo are going down the gameplay route instead of pretty graphics, I think they'll get more sales for "ordinary families".

im starting to see why nintendo went with the wii. its got an established catalogue of games on the GC that can just be updated to work with new wii controllers. its route to market is there fore much shorter in dev time than the PS3 and Xbox360 and much cheaper to produce in R&D costs.

my opinion: nintendo make a marketting decision based purely in securing a market opportunity ahead of sony's ps3 release with a console that people will assume is a next generation console. lets face it they are just repeating a tried and successfull aproach they used for the DS which is just a relaunched n64 with new contollers (touchpad).

im starting to like nintendo for their clever marketting..

How about no.....

Nintendo and sony dont work well, does the SNES CD ring any bells?

Also graphics are not everything look at the DS compared to the PSP.....
which of these is the better seller??

yeah but the PSP is running rehashed PS2 games which to be honest is currently excluding the strongest titles such as Gran Turismo series..

Think of the success of the DS if the mario series wasnt ported?

PSP is hampered by lack of games. once again a sony failure to secure a handheld market ahead of its rivals..

To say that Mario hasn't helped the DS would be a lie, but the majority of the credit goes to other games to be honest;

Advance Wars DS
Animal Crossing
Nintendogs
Phoenix Wright
Trauma Centre
Kirby CC
Meteos
Castlevania

In other news, Worms Open Warfare is fun.

Also finally a game worthy of the acronym WOW.

I like the quote that Crysis released
Something along the lines that the Crytek engine is far too powerful for PS3 and Xbox 360! Go pc powah!

You’re right. We’re crazy not to want to buy a £400 graphics card every 9 months! What *ARE* we thinking?

who wants to play an FPS on a console anyway? its like trying to kill somone with an etch a sketch. up a bit, left a bit, down a bit. You cant just snap to somones head in a natural way. or the game uses some hillarious auto aim/shoot in the general direction and they die system. As you can tell I'm not a fan of FPS on consoles. However, the Wii my change this with its intresting control system, Red Steel looks fun++

Yeah well ive preordered a wii and yes i know the graphics wont be amazing, but the games are original.

Im a PC gamer so my PC plays the best graphic games.

The millions of people who have a PC and choose to play Halo on the Xbox do.

But lets not get into the "PC's are better than Consoles" argument. It's a long and never-ending road to boredom!

Ah Streets of Rage, yet another title that would be SO much fun if they updated it to take advantage of new consoles + internet multiplayer. SoR 2 was my favourite in the series.

I remember reading somewhere (cant remember think it was EDGE) a statement that goes complety back on what the open post states and they assure that Wiis graphical capable will be just as good as current and future competitors.

However they will always be encouraging the developer to make innovatvie games and interesting use of the gaming interface.

I look at a game like Red Steel and it really looks no worse graphically then Perfect Dark Zero on the 360 though besides like most consoles though its technical peak performance doesnt occur until the product has ended its life cycle and a newer version of a console is on the shelves.

i think there's been varying reports, from "just as powerful as a gamecube" to "2x as powerful as an xbox". well done art can make a low-tech game look just as good as a high tech one though

Sega made the SoR series themselves so I'm assume that means they own it completely and should be able to nominate it for the Wii Virtual Console whenever they feel like it. It's not a release title though, I think they have to get all these games re-rated so it's not as simple as it seems.

Megadrive titles available on launch:

Altered Beast
Columns
Ecco The Dolphin
Golden Axe
Ristar
Sonic the Hedgehog
ToeJam and Earl

I'll probably be getting Sonic, ToeJam and Earl, Golden Axe and Ristar. I've never played Ristar but I remember seeing pictures of it in a Sega magazine and thought it looked cool. :)
