Ok.. so ive managed to get a tune stuck in my head... and its annoying the crap out of me. As i result i ran up this sample in a music app.

http://www.0wn4ge.co.uk/files/b.ogg

I cant for the life of me remember what its from. I`m thinking some kind of 80s TV show or somthing.

I`m fairly sure the lead tune is done with Saxophone.

So... answers on a post card etc...

I too know it. I recall hearing it on a TV advert though.

That is the song... however, irritatingly, altho that may be the original, its not the version I`m thinking of.

I could be wrong, but the version of the song I`m remembering had the lead played on a Sax, or equivalent....

It could have been re-used for a more recent TV programme or somthing.

Think theme tune to "This Morning" type saxophone.

Of course... it could just be my mind playing tricks on me.

Huzzah! So I wasn't far off the track (in fact I think I was bang on)... Mark Knopfler/Hank Marvin ... both superb guitar solo experts, similar style ... looks like a Hank Marvin/Shadows original and bang on the money with the 'Scottish Film' thing. :)

edit: and WK ... see if they did a sax version for the film soundtrack, but I always remember this as a guitar track myself.

You need to use that phone service, its advertised on KISS or MTV. If you play a song and then dial some number hold it up/near the speakers it will then tell you the song name, artist and year.

Ive not tried it yet though, ill have to have kiss on to get the number

The only conclusion i am coming up with now, is that it just got used a lot in different tv shows. Including stuff like Gardeners World for example, because its such a beautiful piece of music.
It is by Mark Knopfler - circa 1983, from the film Local Hero based in Scotland... etc.
But WK i do remember a sax version of this. Maybe from some cheesey 80's classic album.

Oh and just so you know, there is now an ambulance technician and paramedic scowering the internet in hereford, trying to find out what else this song was on :) lol my whole family is irritated because they cant think what it was from.

You were mainly right.

Song is Going Home (Theme from Local Hero) by Dire Straits (written by Mark Knopfler though), and starred Burt Lancaster among others.

Basically has an oil tycoon going to a small Scottish village doing research towards an oil depot (or similar), but then he fell in love with the village, and it all ends happily for the village.

Probably been on lots of other adverts

I beg to differ on the title, it is "wild theme" i downloaded it on iTunes, Going home is a completely different song, although similiar in it being a guitar solo.

Actually there are 3.

Wild Theme, Whistle Theme, and Going Home

They are all the same melody, just different interpretations. And all from the Local Hero soundtrack.

But none of them are played on sax. As was sugested earlier, it may just be some cheesy compilation CD or somthing... but i`m sure it`s been used for some TV show or somthing.

You quite sure you're not thinking of a bagpipe version? What with the Scottish, and all...

WhiteKnight

No, bagpipes are very distinctive... i`d remember that....

I remember that tune being used in a coffee advert, with a big blue hot air balloon rising out of a valley next to a waterfall in the middle of a tropical jungle. Think it was for Blue Mountain coffee - not sure if that had the sax instead of the guitar, though I've a hunch that it did.

Wasn't the sax version used as background music during the footy results, or something similar?

Ooh... maybe the cricket or somthing...... could be...

Ok, so after abusing various "media sources" and "acquiring" pretty much every version of this song.... it appears that the one i`m thinking of is "Going Home (theme from Local Hero)" by Mark Knopfler performed by Dire Straits. Specifically NOT the live version, as they dont tend to use the sax on the live sets, just guitar.

Click here for a sample.. (http://www.0wn4ge.co.uk/files/DS-LocalHero.ogg)

I still cant for the life of me remember where that version was played, because while it IS the theme from that film... ive never seen it, and the soundtrack CDs all seem to have the acoustic guitar version, so it must be something else.
