It comes out at midnight on the 8th - now does that mean the night passing between thursday and friday - so it comes out at 12am on Friday morning, or is it the night of Friday and Sat and comes out on Sat morning?

Just wondering if I need to book Friday off work! ;)

as a rule, if its out on the 8th, we (meaning the store i work at) open the first minute into the launch day; so 00:01 Friday 8th.

thats IF there is a midnight launch at our store.

Surely Zelda is enough to make you get one?

You just cant beat Link to the past, Ocarina of time, WindWaker etc

How can they say its peaked too soon if they don't know whats comming out or going to happen in the future?

if your read the article they say the nintendo just wont be able to keep up woth PS3/xbox360 in speed/gfx.

The whole thing about wii is that its trying to bring a new style and more fun into play games not just throwing a new better gfx game on the market.

That entire article is bumph!

I'm not 100% convinced on the Wii. The control method is unique and quirky but the more I think about it, the more I see Microsoft and Sony copying the idea for their own consoles. The games prices seem a tad high (£50 a game being thrown around atm), not sure if that is the final price for games or if there will be some flexibility in that. So the only games I would buy would be ones that were unique for the console and use the unique control system. Otherwise I might as well buy the Xbox360 version, enjoy the better graphics and standard control method.

I'm going to adopt a "wait and see" approach to this console. If it is really as good as it sounds, I'll get one after the mad christmas rush.

I don't buy the peaked early argument. I hear too much talk about the graphics and power of the system limiting its ability. Nintendo hasn't built an ultra high spec machine because they don't need to, that isn't their business strategy. They've created totally unique gameplay through their controller and have built a machine easily powerful enough to deliver that gameplay. As far as I'm concerned, the only limiting factor is the developers imagination. They've been given a unique opportunity with the wii remote and from the videos I've seen even the 3rd party developers have done some interesting stuff with it. Obviously though, they've made normal controllers for the console so if you're worried about the controller, a replacement standard one is available and is very cheap too.

The bias of that "Honeymoon is Over" article is that it appears on a hardware site dedicated to brining you the latest in technology. Of course they're going to concern themselves about a new console's processing power, its ability to play BlueRay/HDDVDs, etc. They want it to do everything and push the limit, and they're willing to pay a premium price for that. Fine, but thats what Microsoft and Sony have done. Whats the point in going off on one about the Nintendo wii? Oh noes, it has no movie playback! Really, I'm sure I'll enjoy Super Smash Brothers just as much with or without the ability to play my non-existent collection of BluRay discs.

I'm also a bit confused about peoples concerns about the price of the unit, or how it seems expensive for what you actually get. Well:

£550 = PS3 + 3 games
(no choice on the dubious bundle titles though, why bundle a karaoke game on launch? The launch is for the hardcore gamer that pre-orders way in advance; they'd rather have Metal Gear Solid 4 but Sony wants them to fork up the cash for that)

or

£550 = wii + wii sports games + 9 games of my choice + retro controller

If I wanted to pick 9 games of my choice for a PS3, that would cost me an additional £450 putting the cost up to £1,000. Personally I think the wii represents great value for money.

Nintendo also have the games selection going for them. There are so, SO many good titles coming out for this console, and a lot of them won't be available on any other console. It's highly competitive in that respect.

I think people are being too quick to judge this console. I'm fairly certain I know what I'm getting and I'm very happy with that. The best, shiniest graphics available on alternative consoles aren't worth the accompanying price tag to me. I strongly believe that power != gameplay, proven most recently by Defcon.

i agree. im enjoying the 360 so much more than i expected..

wondering if the wii controllers are really the fad or main selling point for the console. tbh ive always seen nintendos as being aimed mainly at childrens (games content) or japanese markets..

if a game is playable and fun, its irrelevent who its aimed at.

Cumon who here still enjoys playing Super Mario?

LozB

tbh who the game is aimed at tends to really dictate if i buy it or not. if its little X jumps around or drives around. then its gonne be kid aimed.

i think im probably one of the few people who cant stand, mario / crash bandicoot / spyro type games..

The price of games has put me off buying on release. I only buy my DS games off ebay because they're cheaper. Sorry but i refuse to spend £50 on any game.
