Hi
hope this is in the right section, sry if its not.

At the moment i am with BT on an 8meg connection.
my con randomly drops for 30 secs then reconnects,i know it isnt any problems with my software/hardware,everything is 100% a ok.

When i was on a 1meg con still with bt i never had one single line drop.I have friends also on the 8 meg con again with bt,and they are having exactly the same issues as me.

I have spent endless hours on the phone to bt,even had an engineer come to check the line for faults....guess what no faults on the line.

After doing some searching around i found this site, and it looks like ipmax is to blame?
I am thinking of signing up for the 2meg con that uses the old adsl1,all i want is a stable connection for my gaming.

Can any one confirm that this 2meg con is worth getting for my gaming,as BT connection is doing my head in:as-spin:

any feed back would be greatly welcome, thnx in advance

i too have the same problem on 8mb BT, and i only get dropped while gaming.

while i looked into MPUK service, i decide it was too expensive.

kinda wished i had taken it now.

Seems its a problem with 8mb on all ISP's. I myself have the exact same problem. 8mb is awful.

Unstable, Unreliable. And by far the most annoying thing ever for gamers.

2mb with 256 upload is the beast for stability at the mo. On all ISP's. regardless of what they tell you. In my opinion anyway.

Im on Ipmax with MPUK at the mo. But shortly regrading to the standard GamersDSL. Highly reccomend MPUK. Cant fault their customer support.

I have 8mb with BT,

And i get the FULL 8mb they advertise, and i dont ever drop. Ever.

Now, Dont go drapping everything with the same brush, as i can game even better on ip max than i can with 2mb etc.

System Up Time 229:52:02

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 19944755 22429194 0 128 3650 229:51:42

LAN 10M/100M 4336576 4880282 0 2954 2987 229:52:00

WLAN 11M/54M/108M 19826628 16699760 0 2855 4588 229:51:58

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 db 13.5 db
Noise Margin 10.1 db 23.0 db

However if you REALLY want to go back to 2mb,

if IPmax proves to be unstable, Then the chances are 2mb will have problems too.

Well thats the thing, i never had a single drop out prior to moving to 8mb iPmax. Il pretty much gurantee when i switch back to standard 2mb my problems will be cured.

Not sure what it is exactly that max does that makes my line drop. Its always at around the same times too, not just random. Maybe its packet loss, maybe its my exchange, no idea. Changing back to 2mb though.

Ive noticed you only have 448k upload. The service i was using with MPUK Had 8096kb download and 800+(ish)kb upload. Now wether its the extra upload speed causing problems, i dont know. Alot of people had trouble with it i know that

I didnt get the choice with mine,

And i would doupt very much that having a large upload would change much in all honesty.

Dunno. I know the trouble people were havin with ipmax was a factor in them decidig to stop offering it.

Still confident gettin rid of ipmax all together will solve my problems. Il keep you posted

update...
spent a few more hour on the phone to bt,actually talked to some one who knew what they were on about.

they are aware of the problems ppl are getting with the 8meg con dropping.
i asked for my con to be changed back to the 2meg on the old adsl line, sry sir we cant do that.../sigh

what we can do is down grade your con to 4 or 5 meg, this resolves the issue for 99% of ppl.

Now im not very optimistic of the resolving my problem, time will tell gota wait 3 to 5 days for the downgrade.

if this fails then im gona sign up with mpuk 2meg con :)
