Seems like every night, around about 10pm - 1am. My router ADSL light will go off. Then come back on like 30 seconds later.

I had this all the time during 8mb IPmax, and thought it was down to that. But now back on 2mbs im still gettin it.

Never had this with my old ISP.

Any ideas whats going wrong?

Router overheating? faulty router itself?

Nah ive tried an ADSL modem in too.

Plus the times it seems to cut out are always quite close. Never happens during the day.

Going to replace my filters, extension cables, and phone sockets today to see if that helps.

I have not had any drop outs but have had quite large (165) and slowly rising ping between these times as well, then it drops back to normal, 8 ;) then rises slowly again and again drops back to normal and so on

Not sure if this will help you in finding the prob, if there is 1.

O, cannot put a screenie up as I have not spammed enough. Give me 2 mins lol

Edit:

Not going to work :( but the screenie shows a strange looking graph indeed, no large packet losses just a higher ping that creeps up and up then drops back, the graph looks like saw teeth.

Maybe some sort of maintenance?

Not sure, the pings on the graphs don't go much over 340 and these peaks are almost linear on all the hops at the same time.

Had to monitor our servers a while back for about 3 weeks 24/7, cos of issues with packet loss and the results showed ping spikes on route to the server are quite normal and these 'spikes' never effected our 'ingame ping'. But out of many many hours of trolling through the results to supply info to ****** I have not seen a result like the 1 I am getting, there is a small amount of packet loss but I do not know if this will cause you to drop your connection.

Do the servers run through the same pipes as the broadband service???

try emailing in with the problem on: support@multiplaydsl.net

Did you try reconnecting your DSL line that might help as sometimes the main BT pipes get out of balance. Reconnecting will pick the least loaded one again and hence can help restore normality.

Depends what you mean by reconecting the line. I've powered the router on and off several times. But still had the problem afterwards. Last night i had the line drop no less than 5 times within 5 minutes. Around 11pm.

My ping on ventrilo has increased permanently too. By around +10ms.

Not played many games this week, but il keep an eye on my ingame ping too and let you know.

Seems to much of a co-incidence that its around the same time everytime it drops though.

sounds like either a problem at the exchange or your on max.

I am running sweet tonight, no issues at all, pingplotter is logging so will keep ya posted about dodgy pings and times but so far since 2200gmt everything looks pukka.

Edit:

:(

00:27am, Another line drop.

K

The logged drop reason was "Lost-Carrier" so I'd recommend:
* Unplug all phones
* Plug your DSL modem only directly into the master socket

See if the problems persist. If that solves the issue you could either have:
* Too many phones connected
* Bad filters

Shows 00:25:35 on the graph. If the signs on the graph are anything to go by, you would have also had problems at possably about 00:34:02 and then noticed things improving again at about 00:39:00. The perverbial hits the fan again at 00:50:00 until 01:05:00

*watches with interest*

01:20:05 for about a minute

Pipex is showing as the problem? 1st hop for me after my router, IP 85.236.110.10 and all patterned fluctuations in ping follow from this node.

again showing universal ping spikes at 01:47:50 til....

02:20. Line dropped.
(02:24 Line dropped again)
(02:26 Line dropped again!)

(Update: Had constant line drop outs all morning. No less than 10. Never happened before)

Router plugged into main phone socket on a brand new filter and extension cable.

All phones were unplugged.

My line has dropped seven times so far today, I don't have too many phones plugged in and I don't have bad filters. I'd raise a ticket but if it will take over a week to get a reply like last time the problem is likely to have gone by then.

Also similar to thevoodoo kid I never had this with any of my previous ISPs, im currently on max but limited to 2mb, I'd go back to the standard 2mb dsl if it wasn't for the regrade fee and the fact that to get the contention ratio that I need it's actually going to be about a 12 quid price increase.

Just curious, you other guys with line drop outs. Do you also have the increased upload speed? Or just standard?

Xilly
24th September 2006, 11:30
Think I still have the increased upload, I was on the 8mb max product but have been limited to the 2mb one.

thevoodookid
24th September 2006, 11:31
Same here. I've got a feeling its goin to be something to do with that. Its the only thing that different from my other ISP's

Xilly
24th September 2006, 11:33
Well I imagine it's max related obviously, but as I mentioned above i'd actually have a price increase if I went back to standard 2mb office (need office for the contention ratio as I have a busy exchange). Not sure whether i'm prepared to pay almost fifty quid a month for this service.

thevoodookid
24th September 2006, 11:38
Ouch. Yeah that would no doubt suck. Max seems to be more trouble than it was worth. Im extremely temped to just go back to standard 2mb. Fed up of the drop outs when im tryin to play bf2 or something.

Not to sure what options your left with due to your requirements though :\

K
24th September 2006, 23:07
Max did seem to be the solution to a lot of peoples problems but unfortunately we have learnt from experience that it is unsuitable for gaming and hence have dropped the option.

We can look at what joy we can get out of BT but its unlikely to be fruitful and hence the only option may be to regrade.

thevoodookid

How much is it goin to cost me to change my upload to standard?

K
25th September 2006, 08:28
I dont think it will cost anything but Im not a best person to ask, drop an email to: accounts at multiplay.co.uk

I'm not sure but you might incur a regrade fee, give them a ring and find out.
