Domination on FUN

[plugwash]

domination would increase the variety of gameplay and imo could be done while keeping within the style of maps (quick to pick up and often in some way unusual) of the server either by looking for suitable domination maps or by doing conversions of existing maps from other game types.

what do others think?

to start the ball rolling here are a couple of maps, please suggest/make some others.

notes:
the original version of DOM-cage from nalicity was badly broken with spawn rooms the players couldn't get out of and since i liked the map i asked a friend who is good with unrealed to fix it

the conversion of batllechess was done by me, it seems to play reasonablly though the bots are a bit reluctant to capture the control points.

I love the idea of DOM .... but the fact that 1 player who's really good with a trans can probably beat a team of players who aren't - sort of spoils it for me .... I actually prefer iDOM, (and coming from someone who really doesn't like Insta that's saying something) :redface:

yeah, the translocator, one of the most abused features of UT. Its nice for getting to high places etc but some people manage the timing such that they can move quickly and be virtually impossible to hit.

Of course the obvious fix for its abuse in domination would be to just disable it altogether (i think its settable on a per game type basis) though that would require checking out the maps to make sure they were suitable for play without it.

most DOM maps can be playd withou it i belive since bots hardly ever use it at all.

Don't play much DOM is there a lot of custom maps of that gametype?

piffle. I tried playing DM-Manor Farm on DM server the other day. When I noticed there was no trans and I couldnt climb the mountains, it just wasnt as fun. :(

Haven't played any domination but when... (well, um... yeah. I'm not gonna finish that thought).

domination is always played as a team game in UT (though the principle would work with individual players it would be significantly more complex to identify who was in control of a control point).

you can use any of my mapping work however you like but i haven't asked permission from any of the original authors for stuff i've converted/fixed, maybe i should in light of the chicken pancakes incident.

i've also found (and in some cases made minor fixes to) some more maps that i think would be suitable for domination on fun.
