Just checked my account had 7 machine registered for the original Cancer project one which is now complete. I dont have any of them machines running any more (was about 4 years ago and the company went bust).

I always used to have F@H on my work PC (it's on Monday - Friday constantly) running in the background.

Unfortunately, being a Pentium D, it runs OMG super uber hot, even when idling. As soon as you crank up the CPU, it hits 80 degrees and the fans go mad. So I had to disable it :(.

I liked running these things, but they do tend to make the PC a little bit sluggish.

I stull run it on a dual p4 xeon boxen, set the priority to low and it never gets ino the way of the cycles.

You need to crunch about 40 years worth of CPU time, or generate about 30,000 results to catch up with me :D

If you really have 100+ pcs, you should do it in about 4 to 5 months. (maybe less depending on the spec of the pcs)

That does, of course, assume that they would be running it 24x7. Normal working hours would mean it would take the better part of a year.

I do have 100 pcs. mainly 2ghz machines but I would only put it on about 12 or so machines as I would not want to load busy machines..

Still lets see how it goes!

how many machines do you have it running on?

Well, not quite a 100 pcs but I made a start. Position 63 on the MPUK list and have several people in my sights :)

To coin a phrase..... I DONT BELEIVE IT!

Just as I was well on my way to topping the MPUK group for this project having it running on 10 pcs and multicores... They pull the bloody plug on it!! I managed to get 100 days CPU time in just under 3 weeks...

OK so whats next?

OMG, I only just saw, I had transferred over to WCG http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org a while ago due to the awful amount of updates we got from grid.org. What is really odd is that the new version of the software was still in beta at the time.

If you are looking for a new project I would suggest a boinc based project so you can run as many different types of project without reinstalling software all the time. The two sites below are the best places to look for new projects IMO, I am running WCG (all) and CPDN currently.

My advise is have a look and see that they update there news pages and check that the project seems to give results before joining up! :/

If you go the Boinc route I would suggest joining with an account manager such as BAM! (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/acct_mgrs.php) this makes joining multiple project and looking after multiple machine far far far easier.

It supports a lot of the big projects and some of my favourites e.g. Rosetta@Home, WCG, Einstein@Home and SIMAP although there are some it does not support such as Muon1. Rosetta@Home and WCG both have very good hit rates for results.
