You don't need old ram, new stuff should be fine, as long as it supports that size chips on the Mobo (You might need to pair them)
Pc133 will work happily at 66

the problem with that is pc133 comes in the shape of dimms... however the mobo i want 2 put it in requires simms!!!

Hmm I'll have a look - i'm pretty sure I have 4x32MB SIMMS (EDO) at home.
I'll post a message tonight/tommorow abt what I have.
But I'm pretty sure the machine had 128MB RAM in 4 slots.

it allready has 2x16 and 2x8 (48mb unless im prety much mistaken) so obviously anything less that 2x16 is pretty much usless...
Im prepared to pay a reasonable negotiable price for it obviously

Hi
I've checked and I do indeed have 4 SIMMS here, all 32MB EDO Each.
Obviously you need to fit these in pairs, each pair giving 64MB RAM.
I'm not really all that keen on getting rid of them at the moment (as they are bloody hard to get hold of atm) but you could make me an offer :-)
BTW Scan sell these at 30quid per stick

PC133 256 = 25+vat a stick = £30ish a stick
EDO 32 = 30 a stick
Same price for 8 times as much memory. Its probobly cheaper to scrap your motherboard, LOL

Definitely, it would be more cost effective to get a cheap socket A mobo and a Duron with pc133 ram, than buy the simms, and at the end of the day, the Duron would be MUCH MUCH better than ur present machine

Thats exactly what i'd say, but i'm not implying I want 30 quid for these as they are s/h - i'd be looking for around 15quid per stick.
So 128MB SIMMS = 60 quid
You could always just buy a socket 7 mobo and pc133 memory
e.g: Socket 7 Jetway board 57 quid, 256MB PC133 30 quid
Total=87quid.
or Duron: Average price for mobo seems about 75 quid, Duron 800 is abt 45quid, plus 256MB RAM PC133 = 30quid (assuming u dont want ddr) + a HSF abt 5quid
Total=155quid
The duron would give u best bang/buck ratio.
guess it just depends how much u wanna spend.
I'd prefer to keep hold of the memory as I have an old linux box here which I wanna keep some spares for :-)

Yup, sometimes it just better to retire them. I finally retired my fileserver after 10 years of service.

if you realy want em you can have em. (free)
i dont realy have any use for them anymore, i have decided to give up with the old one and upgrade it.
so, erm... free's the word.
