Quick poll based on a discussion this evening.
Why do you play dota - what do you want out of it?

Edit - this is NOT intended to be a continuation of the 'verbose discussion' - just a bit of fun :)

if its obvious who will win after 5mins i admit i wont put my all in to trying to win. i'll just sit back and avoid dying too much if i can. I dont quit tho as i play pickups mostly and quit = ban.

I doubt you'll see anyone admitting they'll leave an unabalanced game :p

I wouldn't leave an unbalanced game, but it shouldn't be a crime for an entire team to agree to concede if the result is becoming clear cut.

Indeed, concession is valid as long as you have a team majority. If one person wants to concede and the rest don't they should play on out of respect for their teammates.

it shouldn't be majority, it should be unanimous

i've been in several games where 4/5 people have whined and wanted to concede, then gone on to win...

I'd love DOTA to have a "concede" option, which starts a concede vote.

Then, if all 5 players on the team vote yes, the game is over and they lose. Otherwise, they keep playing. It would give a legit way to give up those lost causes, but everyone would have to agree the cause was indeed lost.

I hate games where it's all decided after 15 minutes, but I have to play another 30 mins. That includes being on the winning side, so dull.

I play to get better, and because I enjoy close, competitive games. Winning is preferred, but in a knife edge 90 minute game it's almost as much fun losing.

i'd much rather lose a 2 hour balanced nail-biter than trounce people, contrary to the outward appearance and manic laughter

I play to lose.

But I suck at that.

Seriously though I kinda prefer games I I'm losing. Making a come-back is much more fun.

And a game that is a 'foregone conclusion' that takes 30 minutes to finishes isn't necessarily a foregone conclusion. If you can hold for 30 you can typically push back.

People often don't know how to go on the defensive go and end up worsening matters for themselves.

It's only over when that 'quit mission' box comes up.
