Im sure a birth certificate would be fine.
Its just so they can make sure your booking information matches up with yourself when you sign in. This means there isnt any risk of anyone stealing your place.

and if your over or under 18 for the bar.

if your 19. and they ask you for id when you sign in. and you dont have any... no bar service for you.

and IIRC they might need photo id.

I find it hard to believe these days that nobody has a passport tbh.

and the email you need to bring... you dont need any... as long as you know your booking ID. and even if you dont know that there is at list on entry that is usualy passed down the que or is on the front desk right before u sign in. I never remember or remember to write mine down as im thick so i just use this method.

Why? If you have never been out the country then you dont need one...

Did you read the thread? A passport is a form of ID you can use in situations just like this one, you don't have to leave the country to use it as a form of ID. If I was 19 and had no form of ID whatsoever, I'd get a passport. Plus it would last until you're 29, so if you suddenly decide to go on holiday you're already sorted.

Get a passport while you can before they change the application procedure. I know loads of people with out a passport its not uncommon.

get a provisional driving license. Its much easier to get than a passport. passports you need a counter signature from someone like a doctor etc who is also willing to give you their passport number on the form.

Which is exactly why a lot of people wont accept a Provisional Driving licence as ID

errr you will find that all bars, pubs, clubs etc will accept a provisional driving license and full driving license as a form of ID.

You still have to get them countersigned when you apply, which also have random checks done on them, you just dont need someone who is also willing to give you their passport number, if they even have one themselves in the first place.

What sort of crack are you smoking?

If somewhere isn't accepting it as ID it's got nothing to do with the fact it's a provisional license and everything to do with the fact they don't want to let you in.

When you go from a provisional to a full license you don't send in any more ID, so anywhere that accepts a driving license as ID WILL accept a provisional one.

It might have changed but I remeber when I had mine quite a few places would refuse to accept it as it was only a provisional licence the bank being the most popular. It wasent until I got my full one where they actually accepted it.

Mind you this was whe they first came out.

Actually I know quite a few bars that have big signs up saying "We do not accept provisional driving licenses as valid identification"

Not a clue why, all you need to do to change a provisional to a full one is send off a driving test pass certificate there's no extra level of ID checking that I remember. I suspect its just because most people who have provisionals are 17-18 and it means the bouncers don't have to go to all the trouble of actually checking the DOB to decide not to let someone in ;)

EDIT: On research, licences only became photoID in 1998.. but according to the DOB you input to the forums.. you wouldnt've had a prov. licence by then anyways...

Provisional Licences are a legally valid form of Photo ID, so theres no reason they shouldnt be accepted

Also.. I've been out of the country... Dont currently have a valid passport (ran out of date), I've no plans to leave the country in the next few years and LANs arnt really enough motivation for me to faff around with the paperwork for a new one.

My birth-cert + NUS card was accepted as Photo-ID+DOB at the last LAN

i recall going to a 18 club when i was 17. provisional driving license always got me in. a quick wave and admission granted. on the odd occasion that it was looked at in detail the goon never could work out the DOB and i got in..

prov driving license ftw. but we are talking 16 years ago ;P

I've been into over 21 clubs on a provisional license and frankly, anywhere that didn't accept them would get a chat from me until they did.

They are a perfectly valid form of photo ID.

Both my Provisional and Full Licence where photo. When I got my full licence it was sort of a compulsory thing where if you moved etc you HAD to apply for one.

Ive never seen anyone refused from provisional lisence. Now however, its ahrder you get ID'd everywhere because the bounsers get fined £80 for every under-age perosn...or they can be if police CBA. Befor it was the estabilishment, but now tis bouncers so they ID you alot. This came in as I turned 18 I think, so whenI was 17 and in year 12, age which everyone started going out properly, I manged to get away with only being ID'd once...and I tied 30 mins later and got in LOL
