Opera have done the same thing with their Pocket PC browser.
It was on a beta until a couple of weeks ago...
I just checked, it is now on 30 day trial with a price of €19 (£12.99) if you want to register it.

I've tried it before and it completely blows away Pocket IE. You can see 'proper' sites in their 'proper' layout. :)

The fact that Opera are providing a product like this for the DS strikes me as a good idea. If Firefox brought out a version for mobile devices, then I'd go with that instead. As Mobile Firefox stands right now it is fiddly at best, and bug-ridden at worst.

olllllllld :P

Yeah it does look good.

Nintendo never promissed us a webbrowser when the ds released so now they have created somthing is certainly interesting.

As of about 6 months ago I'm a regular Opera user, it just seems a whole lot better than any of the other browsers for things like speed, features, memory footprint etc. - and considering Opera have alot more experience in the microbrowser market than the good folks coding Firefox, Im wondering why you feel that way.

Firefox would probably be free of charge, while Opera have a small charge for their browser.

You've hit the nail on the head though. Opera *DO* know how to code a browser for limited resources, while the Mini Firefox project has stalled (since the last time I looked).

the browser actually looks really cool, full site overview on touch screen, which you use the stick to move around and focus / zoom onto the page in the top screen, nice idea...

nice idea, but then the effort of putting in the 2 carts, loading it - web pages take about 2-3 minutes to load, and if theres more than a few images it gets very laggy. Check video demos of it on youtube. Should be a free upgrade to the firmware I recon, I wouldnt pay for this anyways :P

umm the ds hasnt the storage space hence the cart for it and even if the firmwear was updated i wouldnt run as good a a decated piece of software the PSP has showed us this its very poor, i would pay for this upgrade as i know it would work!

Looks very interesting indeed, although i have a version of Opera on my phone already. This might be a little easier to browse and read hopefully. Definatly something to keep an eye on. Nice find.

European owners of Nintendo's DS handheld games console can surf the net from 6 October with the release of web browser Opera.

DS users will be able to check e-mail, use instant messaging and shop online with the release of the browser.

The stylus can be used to scroll around the screen and click on links.

The Nintendo DS Browser costs £30 and will be available as a standard cartridge for the device and comes bundled with a memory expansion pack.

Not bad!

You can use firefox on your PDA, It just uses the pc files with a modified exe file works with Windows Mobile 2003.

Also does this mean that opera for symbian is likely to loose its free status?

My appologies it isnt firefox I use on my PDA, its called Minimo but its stil using Mozilla, a version can be downloaded from the following. It does have many good features found in firefox though such as the security enchancements, tabbed browsing, control over directories etc to suite memory cards. GIve it a whirl. Also if using these browers I recommended they are used with either DotPocket or Nyditot to allow you to fully controls resolution and orientation

Opera on pocket PC is seriously awesome. Blows any other pocket browser out of the water and well worth spending some money on :)
