View Full Version : WoWLAN II - Get Signing Up!
Wizzo
29th June 2006, 09:24
It seems all you WoWers are being quite lazy about even signing up to WoWLAN 2, set to take place at the end of July in Stratford-upon-Avon. What's keeping you all?
We're going to take a decision next Friday (7th July) as to whether the event can go ahead, and need 30 people minimum to cover costs. If you are planning on coming to WoWLAN but have held off signing up due to CBA, etc. then please get moving as otherwise we'll have to pull the plug and look to reschedule.
The summoning portal for the event is currently open, but it needs more of you to click on it for it to materialise! Go sign up and register your interest @ http://www.multiplay.co.uk/signuppage3.asp?event=76

Hasn't this been changed to the ManaLAN? The signup is still saying WoWLAN 2...
I'd be interested in going if it was essentially another StratLAN (since I only drink and play DotA anyway!) although I may be persuaded to resurrect my WoW characters for the weekend if I got the chance to actually play and group with people that I know!
I think we should kick people's arses and get some signups going as it's not so far away!
And Bonkers has to show up this time - the lazy ****.
/me runs off to check her availability...

It is in the process of being changed to Manalan. It's all blizzard games now including dota, starcraft, war3, WoW, etc.

tempting depending on if i can make some time
So its become a stratlan? how about a generic MMO lan?
Diamond_Dove
8th July 2006, 11:35
Yes Killy`...we can sit with each other again and I can stroke you some more...

P.S. OH! Is THAT why you don't spend much time at your cpu?? I thought you just liked to socialise..... :'(

It's not a stratlan. It is specifically aimed at blizzard games. I'm sure if people wanted to come play Eve or another fantasy MMO we wouldn't mind though.
There will no doubt be the usual magic players, poker players and big screen posse.

8th July 2006, 14:47
hmmm, tempting, although the only blizzard game I play is WoW lol. can't get on with dota =\

I would love to come again, the last one was fun. However, it happens to lie between two other lans again and I'm not doing three lans in a row. Not again.
My liver aches at the memories.

Oh come on - it'll be a laff! And you don't HAVE to drink - no one will force you! And you don't HAVE to pull certain persons either, Q. That was totally your own fault.
And Brightside - the only blizzard game i can play is DotA, and maybe some TD's and Hero defences etc etc. We'll just have to fill in the rest of the time with being sociable! I don't really get on with WoW any more, though I do have two level 60s. They magically levelled themselves whilst i was out at work. *rolls eyes*
I think it's great, since the next Stratlan won't be til September. And we all bought our fans from tescos at the Stratlan just gone, so we'll be well sorted.
Although we may have to hire a water-truck to fill the paddling pool as we MUSN'T WASTE WATER!!! lol

I am going to ask my mum for a loan. Stay tuned please darlings.Edit: also Wizzo do you need 40 people to make this event run?
Wizzo
10th July 2006, 23:45
need to be confident of 30 for it to go ahead. That's the bare minimum and even then we'll just use the tables at the venue and I'll cram the kit in my car. Next milestone is 50 before we can hire the van and additional tables.

I think me, Elbonio and Mouse_On_Mars may be paying to be speccy for a couple of days.
Karsh
11th July 2006, 07:49
I know Elbonio has a event in the area so he did say about coming to manalan for afew days. Can i also suggest MASS Emails go out, it does help for customers who are not active on forums.

I'd come along for some DOTA overload, but sadly it clashes with the Magic Nationals - I'll be half an hour up the road at the NEC, but unable to LAN. maybe next time.

Bit silly that this clashes with CLUK, especially seeing as they posted their dates at the beginning of the year. As it is, CLUK wins out for me.

Killy` you smell.
Only joking! Sitting in the old row because the temperature there was at least 10 degrees lower than over in the corner where the rest of you are...

You think the seating plan will bear any relevance to the actual distribution of people at this LAN? Hehehe.

^^
ManaLAN appears to be aimed at the first two rows of StratLAN. I think it would have been a better idea to open it up as an 'MMO LAN' than to just expand to 'your favourite games'.

Need a lot more people signed up/paid for this to go ahead. I need to be confident of a minimum of 30 attending. The decision to go ahead/cancel will be taken tomorrow (Friday 14th) so please register your interest asap!

i would really like to come along, but i cant justify the cost (finanical and time) of a weekend of mmo playing away from home at this moment in time.
got a spare room to decorate and house to prep for selling.. sometimes RL takes priority
Wizzo
13th July 2006, 09:25
will do... I can probably give it the weekend actually and inform the Racecourse on Monday morning. Will get an email sent out.
Unfortunately threatening cancellation of an event is usually the final nail in the coffin. People tend to not be prepared to sign up in case it gets cancelled and "wait and see". In reality if it's cancelled everyone will get a full refund, so you lose nothing by paying up.

Edited - this is a thread about ManaLAN
Wizzo
13th July 2006, 09:39
A few changes happening:
* Event is being reduced to a usual weekend length (6pm Fri-6pm Sun) - refund for the Monday being issued where applicable.
* Ticket price going down to a usual StratLAN level (£40 for the weekend) - refunds coming where applicable.
* No BBQ - we hire this from the people we get the tables from, but can keep costs down by not hiring anything from them <35 places. Refunds where appropriate and will remove this service from the list.
I'm prepared to subsidise the event myself for it to go ahead, so we need to be confident of gettng a mere 20 people minimum. I'm not addicted to WoW... honest :)
Email announcement and website revamp going live shortly.

Thinking of coming (read Dove is pressuring me to go), but would need some sort of liftage there and back from Oxford (can't get Friday off Wizzo so wouldn't be able to come up with you).
Wizzo
13th July 2006, 10:34
I've reduced the seats down to 30 for now, as those are the only rows we'll lay until we break that number.
Diamond_Dove
13th July 2006, 10:35
Yeah, I think we've got the the stage where people are waiting for everyone else to sign up, which means that people aren't signing up. As Wizzo says, if you want to come but aren't sure it'll happen in the end, you may as well sign up cos you'll be refunded if the event doesn't go ahead.
Personally I'm looking forward to it and will be mega disappointed if it doesn't happen! So get signing up, people!

Would it be possible for you to re-enable clicking on seats? It seems all the onclick handlers have disappeared, and I'd kinda like to move to 15.

It starts Friday at 6pm and most people arrive Friday evening. In all honesty if this event started at Saturday 9am the cost would still be the same, so effectively we offer the Friday night gratis.

Well we've gone from 4 to 11 people paid up so far today, so I'd say we're well on track to hit 20 this weekend. Get signing up slackers!

I cannot click on any seats in either Firefox or IE. I already have my Seat O'Win so I'm not that fussed but just reporting the bug.

Given that we now have 17 paid, I'm giving this the go ahead. No need to worry about holding off now... we're going ahead with the event regardless :) Get those payments in!
The max we can do on the "scaled down" version of the event (where we don't need to hire in tables, rent a van, etc.) is 36 seats. If it doesn't look like we'll break that and hit 50 spaces sold by end of next week (23/07) I'll be setting this as a firm limit on the BYOC. Plenty of space for speccies though.
