Ok, now userally i am a nice guy i get on with my little life in my own little world, but today i am here on the multiplay forums to moan.
The battlefield 2 server i own has crashed not once, not twice, not three, not four but 5 times this week, so its the same routine server gets full server crash's then we have to get it full again.
So what can i do about it? after talking with a really nice MPUK admin the basic answer is nothing, after talking with EA they tell me they are not aware of these incidences and say there is nothing they can do.
Well to be honest thats bull****, we bought a game released in its beta stages and then we get a patch to fix retial fair enough, but a patch to fix a patch to fix a patch to fix patch is just a joke.
So with my little life i go over to the EA UK forums to post about this problem and it gets locked and delted, i then recive the email, are you sure the admins arnt tripping over the power plug, now MPUK you guys are cool we have rented a server from you for a while and you have execlent costomer support and clanforge is a really useful tool, basicly you are not a noob GSP.
Well after much experiementing with these crash's i think i have found the solution, remove modmanager from your server, ours allways seems to crash with it on, i have tried numerous things like allways leaving one slot open so the server is not 100% full, it never worked.
So sorry to say MPUK we will not be renewing our BF2 server next month, but we will probably order a CSS server, my battlefeild 2 account and games are now all on eBay and i am pretty much done with this game, i see no point in playing a game after countless server crash's and basicly wasting £81 on a server that hasnt worked properly, as well as all the CTD's and glitchs and all the other crap i put up with whilst playing this game.
Sorry i just had to rant...
Good Bye Battlefeild 2

really? you're lucky mate.. thats all I need to say.
we crash arround 2-3 times before 12, maybe once again before 20:00 then again at 23:00-00:00(which kills the usually full[untill 0400am]) server
we are lucky having a large regular player base and a server name people seem to get easily. Generally means we take no longer than 1hour to go from 0-64 which is good for a multi-map server

well the accounts going, so will the games, must be worth something as saw a Sergent Major reach $300 on eBay, i wont get as much but worth a try :roller:
EDIT: looking at your stats, you dont have a possitive KDR, i have more golds, more expert badges, i have every ribbon for vanial bf2, and a higher spm, so before you call it a lousy 60k remember, it has more awards than you and higher stats, only thing you have is more time and a higher global score because of it.

There is nothing fishy going on. We DO NOT restart your servers at midnight either manually or automatically. If it seems that way then it is merely coincidence. The only automated feature we have that might stop your server is the one that shuts down servers that are overdue for payment. This happens shortly after midnight, but ONLY affects servers that have not been renewed.

is there any chance we could revert our server's back to 1.03? as that eas a nice stable patch

Well i have a server which has 3 months paid up front so any chance of non payment isnt from my end. Anyway how many bf2 servers are on each machine ?
Maybe they accidently restart my server when something is going on with someone elses account ? i dont know.. anyway here is a small log of whats be going on..

Im not exactly sure what point you are trying to make with all those logs.
The 1.3 patch causes all BF2 servers world wide to crash... lots. The crash is random. It can be empty, it can have 1 or 2 players, or it can be full. It can be up for only 5 mins, or you might be lucky and have it up for a few hours! The point is there is little evidence to suggest is has ANYTHING to do with the number of players on the server at the time.
The only seemingly consistent issue that has been identified is to do with clients that used the incremental patch. That said, it doesnt appear that this is the only problem with the 1.3 patch.
Finally, other than showing the server has crashed a lot, what has that to do with your claim that it always restarts at midnight? I see no evidence of this.

Might inform Ebay of your blatent LIE selling due to bored thats not what youve said here.
True the server crashing SUCKS the big one and i would expect multiplay to have pushed alot harder
For some kind of Fix EA wont liten to us maybe MPUK have the same problem.
Going to be hard to get enough of our members together to renew this time.
Believe me we are pushing as hard as we can but there is only so much we can do. Fingers crossed the next patch will bring good news considering our close envolvement with it.

So what's the situation with Multiplay then?
Have you been in contact with EA/Dice and complained to them?
Have you lost a lot of revenue through this patch with people cancelling server orders? If so, does EA/Dice compensate you in any way as you have to pay them a fee to enable you to rent ranked servers?
If they have, will you offer any discount to the Clans who rent servers from you but haven't been able to play more than 2 hours without their server crashing?
I totally understand that the server crashing problems are not Multiplay's fault, but I feel it would be a great gesture from multiplay to offer say another "Discount Month" like they did in May for their BF2 ranked servers.
Sorry if this seems to be a rant, but my Clan members want some answers.
Thanks in advance guys....

I am not in the loop as far as contact with EA or how the financial issues relating to this patch are working.
But i can tell you Multiplay is very much in contact with EA and other GSP's regarding the issues 1.3 has thrown up. It has been stated on these forums, and indeed in this thread just how much Multiplay are trying to get a sollution to this problem.
As far as the financial side goes, I can only guess that the weeks since 1.3 would have seen an affect on the number of servers rented from multiplay.
You may or may not be aware, that you can now choose to roll back your 1.3 server to 1.22, it will require your clan to reinstall BF (hence its an option and not a forced roll back). And as far as im aware the stats should still work (if your interested in *that* side of the game).
Multiplay are one of only a few GSP's to offer such a roll back.
Again , im not in a position to comment on any compensation.
It's a problematic time for all concerned in BF2 at the moment, But I hope that helps a little.

28th June 2006, 09:57
are there many 1.22 servers up at the moment?
JaM3z
28th June 2006, 13:32
Yeah there are loads, i had my server on a 1.22 version until i decied to suspend it until EA sort there sucking lives out, even then i am not going to renew it, one of the members in my clan decided to go and buy a CSS server so we all play that now, battlefeild died after a read the ROE and relised i broke about 3 rules a day.
I am fed up of the BF2 police, and the CTD's and the server crash's and the wall glitching and the amount of **** people talk in public servers, this game has been well and truly ruined.
Im still suprised people actually play it.
althalus401

Reality check. A plan never survives first contact. The server crashes are irritating to the extreme but it is not the fault of Multiplay. The server is still up more often than it is down. People who installed the 1.3 incremental patch and not the full retail are still crashing servers but how many of the crashes are caused by this is unknown.
BF2 is still a good game, even with cartillery which I hate with a loathing I cannot describe and I look forward to a cure for all the problems. If you want to moan, and I do I would suggest the place to do it is on the EA forums, they are the ones who have created the problem not Multiplay. Don't shoot the messenger.
As far as CSS is concerned in my humble opinion with the money you spend on buying that you could buy a good game. What else can you say about a game that is steam powered.
Just remember the philosophy of the US Seals, "There are very few of the worlds problems that cannot be solved with high explosive" :)

Is it really the people that patched using the incremental and not the full patch that are causing the problem? That's the first time I've heard that?
As for crashes, yes, loads, 4 or 5 a day atleast. :(
What annoys me, they did a hotfix after 1.2 (or was it after 1.21) they know whats causing the crash in 1.3, but are waiting to beta test all the other stuff they want to shove out with the 1.4 patch... very annoying!

Is it really the people that patched using the incremental and not the full patch that are causing the problem? That's the first time I've heard that?
I initially used the incremental patch and I could crash every server I visited as soon as I entered the game, not every time but more often than not and certainly more often than to say it was co-incidence. I don't suppose that my particular setup was unique. I have never said that this is the sole cause but it is a factor. I would be nice to have a log to check who is joining just before crashes, I do know from monitoring that the crash always occurs when a player is joining. It might explain why the crash frequency is so un-predictable, yesterday the server crashed a few times very quickly just as though someone was trying to rejoin, in this case I cannot rule out co-incidence.
I believe in co-incidences I just don't trust them.
Yes indeed if anyone knows they have an install which does this PLEASE PLEASE let us know Dice would dearly like to get hold of such an install.

A few weeks back when they posted the details for 1.4 they said they had fixed a crash problem with 1.3? Is that they just fixed one cause... they have another 6 to track down?
1.4 is being Beta'd, does anyone know if it's stable?
1.4 is more stable but there are still issues to be addressed.

Do the punkbuster logs hold details of every player joining? If they do it should not be difficult to access those logs and tie up server crashes with particular players who I stress may have no idea that they are are doing it. I would like to download the pb logs but my ftp software won't give me access for some reason, probably because I am not entering the right password. It sees the server fine.
I am willing to put the time in if it will be useful but a log which contains every player joining or attempting to join is essential.
JavaCofe
11th July 2006, 15:58
I have arround 200 PB logs
there are lots of servers ... do you still have the time?
theres no way to tell basically as the server crashing appears to stop the PB log and the player name doesn't show
althalus401
12th July 2006, 07:34
Now here's a thing. The server did not crash once yesterday. Is it because the people who have been crashing servers have moved to the 1.4 beta so they get a game? Is it because they have stopped trying to get on servers now there is an alternative? Be interesting to see how long the crash free period lasts but a day without a crash at all is a rare beast indeed.
I believe in co-incidence, I just don't trust it
