Which game has the best music would you say?
I personally think it's down to either The Great Giana Sisters on the C64 or Tetris on the GameBoy. Although Bubble Bobble and Super Mario Land also deserve special mentions.

A-IV Network$ had some cool choons.
It was one of those games from the mid-nineties that used CD-Audio for its music. The music wasn't too bad either - as the seasons in the game changed, the music changed to match. The songs worked really well!

I know people go on about it but I FFVII, particularly the Cosmo Canyon tune, really did it for me.
Other notable mentions are Halo (intro) and MoH:AA.

Transport Tycoon and Tie Fighter. Midi ftw.
If anyone starts recounting tales of how Aeris's tune in FFVII made them cry again I will have this thread encased in concrete and buried on the bottom of the north sea.

Personally my all time favorite game tune is the Title music to Turrican II on the Amiga. Very cool track. Not to mention the elite sound style generated from the TFMX music engine.
A very close joint second is the original orchestral recording of all 3 Outrun themes. SOO gooood.
Then third is the "Fury of the Furries" theme music.
In no particular order after that:
Monkey Island
Lemmings
Deflektor
Deluxe Galaga
Bubble Bobble
Transport Tycoon
Bonkers

Too many to choose from, so I've split them up a bit.
8 Bit/Arcade
Bionic Commando :- each of the five levels had it's own tune. Even the highscore table (with 30 second countdown) had a tune which suited it.
Outrun / Spy Hunter / Space Harrier / R-Type :- Classics of the time.
Bubble Bobble / Rainbow Island
Monty on the run / Thing on a spring.
16 Bit
Sonic / Mario
Deflektor
Cannon Fodder "War has never been so much fun"
Project X, Alien Breed, Superfrog, Worms
Lemmings
Current
World of Warcraft.
I think it is difficult to pin it down to one title; different music invoke different emotions/memories.

Hellmarch ftw!
I quite like the HL2 music in the 'action' levels (Airboat vs helecopter kinda points)

Second for Turrican 2, had some gems in there.
Airbourne Ranger was brief but good. As was the random 'press start to play' music in Starglider 2 on the Amiga.
Nowadays with FPS and RTS games demanding a lot of concentration, I can't pick out any particular tracks. Plenty of good tunes in there but nothing I can recognise on its own.

Hell March, Monkey Island (All of it) and Transport Tycoon.

" The new action video game that will not only shock your fingertips -- but also shock you out of your senses!
Calling (shooting) and Responsing (destroying) enemy viruses will steadily create phrases of music which will lead the player into a dreamlike world of sound and sense. As the player concentrates harder and harder on the game, random sound effects will turn into a steady rhythm, while waves of lights and colors will consume the player entirely. And when sound and visual effects ultimately come together, Rez will open your senses to a totally unbelievable experience like nothing you have ever felt before.
Welcome to the world of Rez!"

A bit later than a lot of the rest but: Baldur's Gate 2.
WoW has a case of producing even more of the average game music these days tbh. It's just more of this general RPG music we hear a lot these days, GW and Oblivion are big offenders of this too. I hope that NWN2, Mass Effect, and other approaching RPGs have more original, and less generic sounding music.
Sonic does have to be my all time favorite though.

You're right, it did, but for me as many have already said the Final Fantasy songs do it like none other for me. It's the only game music that has a real space on my every day playlist.
