Looks like another nfs is in the making, heres a couple of videos

http://www.nfs-planet.de/nfsc_movies.php?lang=eng

Namely, by the looks of it; these are from the PS3. Hopefully it will get a PC release.
And, Hopefully it won't be as **** as NFS:MW

EDIT
----------
Need for Speed: Carbon is the latest installment in Need for Speed series. Although it has yet to be officially announced, it was shown in EA's montage at Sony's E³ 2006 conference. EB Games have anounced a provisional release date of November 1, 2006. The story and features of this game are unknown as of now. It is the first NFS game set to be released for the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii. From the previews, Lamborghinis and Porsches are to be featured in the game. It is also evident that night time racing will make a welcome return to the series as some of the cars appear to have neon lights.

More info for you :D

----
NFSC: New info on the game Friday, 16.06.2006
NFS CarbonNew information on Need for Speed Carbon was recently published on GamesAsylum.com.
The game may will include 50-100 cars and you will be able to manage your own drivers crew.

Every character, including rivals, have their own skills and talents such as blocking off slip roads and fall into one of three categories - tuning, muscle and exotic. If you're into tuning then a team can be formed with expertise in that area, or if customisation is your thing then drivers also into "tricking out" can be chosen.

Trackside railings now bend and buckle when hit (which should make for some entertaining police chases when zooming down a mountain at 150mph) and there's also talk of tilt sensor support for the PlayStation 3 version.
-----

I'm thinking this is moving alot along the lines of GTA, but without the guns, etc.
Hopefully they do the ****ing tuning system like NFSU2 again, and car control aswell.

i doubt they do, they most likly find someone with an existing car and offer $$$ for some vynal advertising.

More info stolen for you :D
-----

- NFS Carbon will play at night (already known)
- you will have to conquer step by step some districts. Once you got a district under your control, you get rewards like discount on new components
- There will be a drift mode on montains, where you drive against opponents
- the police will be less important than in NFS Most Wanted
- the crew of the player will be in the city

The above information is not 100% sure, I don't speak czech. ;)
As soon there is something new about NFS Carbon you get to know here. Maybe I will sum up all the new infos if I have time...or does someone else want to do this? :)

I'm sorry, I just don't trust the programmers EA have assigned to this to make a decent tribute to Togue racing :(

me too, drift has always been badly implemented, well despite EA's track record for producing such piss poor games it cant be as bad as most wanted.

Right, here we go!

NFS:Carbon has been officially announced:

Redwood City, Calif. - June 22, 2006 - Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that Need for Speed™ Carbon is in development and will hit the streets this November. Developed by EA Black Box in Vancouver, British Columbia, Need for Speed Carbon delivers the next generation of adrenaline-filled street racing and will challenge players to face the ultimate test of driving skill on treacherous canyon roads.

"We pride ourselves on our ability to reinvent the franchise and continually uncover new and exciting trends in car culture. Canyon Racing is a real test of a driver's skill and we think it provides a fantastic game play opportunity to lean into," said Larry LaPierre, the game's executive producer.

You and your crew must race in an all-out war for the city, risking everything to take over your rivals' neighborhoods one block at a time. As the police turn up the heat, the battle ultimately shifts to Carbon Canyon, where territories and reputations can be lost on every perilous curve. Need for Speed Carbon delivers the next generation of customization giving you the power to design and tweak your crew's cars in every way using the ground-breaking new Autosculpt™ technology. Represent your car class, your crew, and your turf in Need for Speed Carbon, the next revolution in racing games.

More news for ya too:
--------
So the demo of Need for Speed Carbon will be out much earlier than the NFS Most Wanted demo was - the NFSMW demo for PC was released on November 11th.

What it'll contain is still being determined, but it'll give you a solid look/feel of what the core elements of the game will be.

Regarding Customization we may can expect that the will be no "star system".

Most aspects of games (especially for NFS) are included if they fit or make sense to the overall concept.
The rating aspects of Underground games was included because the style aspect is core to that racing scene. Customization was scaled back in MW because the racing and cop evasion was the core concept, not customization. So where does Carbon fit in this? You'll have to wait and see.

If you look around, there are different car skins and map for the older NFS series. There is also a couple of car skins for MW.
No new maps in U2 and MW though due to the free roam map.

Racing modes announced

----

Larry LaPierre will be once more the Executive Producer of Need for Speed Carbon, and EA is going to publish a Q&A with him next week.
But an interesting information in advance is this:

Q. What will NFS Carbon have by way of race modes?
LL: Circuit, Sprint, Speedtrap, Canyon Duel, Canyon Race, Drift, Canyon Drift, Time Trial and a few others we can tell you about at a later date.

NFSC MapSo NFS Carbon will have the known modes Circuit, Sprint, Speedtrap, Drift and Time Trial and the new modes Race, Drift and Duell take place in the canyons - most likely outside the city, as you can see on THIS MAP (http://www.nfsplanet.com/images/nfsc/screens/magazine/0015.jpg)

An interview with larry LaPierre
Larry LaPierre is the Executive Producer of Need for Speed Carbon and EA published an interview with him on the official Need for Speed website

Community Team: Give us an overview of Need for Speed™ Carbon. What's the overall premise of the game?

Larry LaPierre: In NFS Carbon, our hero from Need for Speed™ Most Wanted returns back home to Palmont city only to find out things have changed. He has been framed for a race that went wrong, rival street racing gangs have taken over, and like any good conflict, it has to be settled on the streets in their cars.

A battle for control of the city takes on even greater danger when the races move out to the Canyons.

CT: How does NFS Carbon differentiate itself from NFS Most Wanted and the Need for Speed™ Underground titles?

LL: NFS Carbon takes the danger and illicitness of street racing and amps it up by introducing canyon racing.

CT: Location has had a huge impact in past NFS games. What can you say about the "world" in NFS Carbon?

LL: NFS carbon takes place in Palmont City. It is heavily influenced by a west coast/Sante Fe vibe mixed with a bit of over the top Vegas glitz, all nestled in the California hills. It's vibrant, colorful and alive.

CT: Drift racing makes its return in NFS Carbon. How is the racing mechanic and physics different than what was in NFS Underground 2?

LL: We are really excited to be bringing drift back, its so challenging and so much fun to snake your car smoothly through a set of turns. We also have a much better scoring mechanic this year.

CT: What can you tell us about the cars and customization in NFS Carbon?

LL: I love the car set this year - we have such a cool variety with Tuners, Muscle and Exotics. The feel of each is really unique and as far as customization goes we have a totally new way to trick out your car with Autosculpt™.

CT: Ah, Autosculpt. I can't wait until we can talk about that more. Switching gears, no pun intended, what will NFS Carbon have by way of race modes?

LL: A lot! NFS Carbon will have Circuit racing, Sprint racing, Speedtrap, and new modes Canyon Duel, Canyon Race, Drift, Canyon Drift, Time Trial and a few others we can tell you about at a later date.

CT: Lastly, what is the one thing that has you the most excited about NFS Carbon?

LL: One thing? If it was only one thing it would probably be the canyon duels - they are so intense. You are ripping through these canyons as fast as you can trying to keep up to the lead car.

The slightest mistake and buh-bye...over the edge...into a heap of metal and carbon fiber.

CT: Ouch!

It doesn't really say that much. But i really really really hope that the driving system is like NFSU2!

theres a few more screenshots there aswell, but i can't access them atm.

There are now some new gameplay videos out, which show some really **** drivers driving some cars in the mountains.

Looking at them tbh, It doesn't really look much like Tokyo Drift. It most likely will be cashing in on it. But just using the marketing side of things.

Videos @ http://www.nfs-planet.de/nfsc_movies.php?lang=eng

Theres also an interview there, with some guy who is working on it. He explains the race modes a little more and about the police.
Earlier people have said that the police won't be playing that much of a major part in NFS:C, but now he's saying that the whole involvement with them will be alot deeper that NFS:MW.

That was tremendously uninspiring. First off, it looks like all the other recent NFS games, probably with a few more polygons for the cars. It's a disgrace they've thrown an Aston Martin in there but hey, EA has no shame ;)

It looks like it has exactly the same old rigid driving model too. And that simple one-on-one race they had was dull - you can not with a straight face tell me that looks 'good'. I dunno who decided to release the video, but having some toss driving to show-off the fact you can knock road signs over wasn't a good idea.

But at least its at night time so the rendering engine might spit out a few more FPS than the last one.

This Autoscuplt thing looks pretty impressive, a nice fresh idea for NFS, especially after what a mockery that was the customisation in NFS:MW...

i'd prefere a nice semi-realistic driving model for the drift races, something that requires more skill than tapping e-brake, holding accel and steering left and right like a lunatic.

prolly too much to ask for from an arcade based racing game but it would make the mountain drift races a hell of a lot more challanging/rewarding and competitive i reckon

Not taking anything away from what GS has said, but Outrun 2006 is more console than Mario. Complete utter tripe that may as well live in a world of sprites.

I reinstalled Most Wanted the other day. just to remind myself what utter dog **** it is.

Okay, yea its an alright game. but the handling was spot on in NFSU2. and judging by the NFS:C videos, NFS:C 's handling will suck too. :<
But! They have drift mode back. It'll be funny trying to drift on the new handling model :>
