View Full Version : Bikes Vs. Cars || Time to cause trouble again...
Ok here we go follow on from the nissan/toyota argument.
Bikes or cars.....
Im going to say bikes due to the simple reason i can insure a 600cc GSXR (super sport) for less then a 1liter micra.... with no years NCB ect.
Also there faster safer and traffic jams just seem to fly past.
(on the note of safer technicly they are as the majority of injuries sufferd by car drivers are due to "safty" methods such as seat belts causing fractures and whip lash air bags breaking faces. If you crash a bike and your wearing leathers helmet and gloves you can stand up and get back on it i know ive done it more then once, unless its a wall then your rather screwed)
go go go fight

Out of interest, who is insuring you cheaper than a Micra?
What quote did you get for a Micra ?
and safer is rubbish.

Indeed, put a bike and a car in a head on and see which driver walks away

bikes ... but heres why they suck...
Storage .. I cant get all my work related material to and from my clients sites and my office.
Weather .. it rains and gets cold in England your outside when on a bike
Entertainment .. Soundproofing plus high quality stereo system not available.
Climate Control ... Air Conditioning when having to stop
Eating and Drinking .. on the Move ...
Other than that if I wan to deliver pizza or a document then Bikes are fine.

Guy in the last week hit a car while riding his bike in the centre of town and was killed. Bikes far too dangerous for my liking when all you need is a little mistake from anyone and you get gibbed.

bike is best for commuting due to the less fuel used and the fact u can go down the traffic, cars are better at cornering and safety and allow u to drive in comfort, but they cost more, u get stuck in traffic and u have to put up with whiney passengers lol.
basically, each has a useful function, i enjoy both but id rather take my gt-four round a track than a bike simply because its more fun :)

I had a ZX6 a few years ago before I binned it into a parked car. (don't ask) Great fun and utterley bonkers for less than 5k. Thrills you could never get for the same price when buying a car.
However...
Yes in theory bikes would be safe if no other cars where on the road and you ALWAYS wore leathers whether it's hot or not. In reality, though there's a reason the medical professions refer to bikers as 'doners'. Bin it on a left hand bend and welcome to oncoming traffic! Bin it on a right bend and you may get away with just a lamp post.
Great fun whilst I had it, frankly I'd never buy one again and was very lucky on several occasions...

Can't wrap yourself up in cotton wool your whole life :) You also don't have to ride like a complete nutter to enjoy biking. You only have to cross the road to die...

What he said ^^
I prefer bikes, mostly for the fun factor. One of the greatest advantages is filtering. The look of utter rage on some car drivers faces as they have to sit at the lights for the 3rd cycle in busy traffic as you coast by is worth it alone.

Thats crap the bike isnt even running to the red line or infact any where near it a tuned R1 will do 0 - 63 in under 3seconds 0 - 100 in .5.2 so that is a crap video.

its not about acceleration you p33n a bullet accelerates faster than a bike... doesnt mean it can go arround corners...
Right this is in kmp not mph but take into effect the fact that there are VERY few cars on earth that can out run a motorbike in line speed this is a R1 doing a time test peaking at what i think is 275 KMH its hard to read

As guigsy said though, a bullet goes faster, just try to get it to go around a corner. Straight line speed means NOTHING if you can't handle a corner.
A motor bike is more subject to apprent G as it corners due to its aerodynamic chassis no it cannot corner as effectivly but then again go out find your self a motorbiker and try to race him or her on any road you can think of a small twisty country road anything because you will lose that is my point bikes are slower in corners but bikes accelerate dramaticly faster then cars out of a corner as soon as you hit the apex you can shift down a gear and be gone in under 4 seconds.
There is more to racing then straight lines and corners.

The superbikes equivalent of the Grand Prix now atracts more on-site spectators than the Grand Prix aswell.
I'd rather drive a car, but I used to race dirt bikes; I wouldn't mind going back to a motorbike for a while one day.
i used to ride a bike, and almost died on several occasions (including a rear tyre blowout at 65mph. Lucky there was no other traffic around, else i'd have been person pate.
I'd love to own another bike though, they are crazy fun, but you really do have to know your limits, and wear the right gear.

Because the grand prix now has a reputation of being a boring parade with hardly any overtaking. People want to see action, superbikes give that.

I had a "sports" 125 last year for a while. I did my cbt, got the bike and it was great fun. I ended up passing my car test soon after, and i couldn't afford to run both, so i sold the bike.
I really want to do my bike bike test and get a proper bike, but it really is the safty thing that stops me from getting one. If i have a ding at 30mph in my car, that's fine, but on a bike that can kill you. There's no 2 ways about it, no matter how gooder rider you are, bikes are more dangerous.

You could be the best rider in the world, but if a car suddenly pulls out of a side road like on that advert shown recently... well, you'll be chewing tarmac if not much much worse.
Mingtea
4th June 2006, 20:21
Very biased opinion from flix there.
Numerous times the car vs bike test has been done and the car wins, simply the car stays flatter around the corner and you can power out earlier.
However the cars tested against bikes are like 20k+ and you can be on a crazy bike for 10k+ so for bang for buck performance, with a little danger you'd be on a bike.
However if i had the cash, music and A/C would win me over to the cars side ;) oh and a boot.

Exactly, this is the biggest problem with bikes.
I wouldn't get a bike and it's not because I don't trust myself to ride it safely, I don't trust alot of car drivers to actually notice me being there. If the airhead doing her makeup in the rearview mirror ploughs into the side of you in a car you're fine, on a bike and you're not so fine and quite possibly dead.

That's why the real crazy bikers are the ones who don't slow down for crossroads.

I get the feeling this thread has reached it's each to their own conclusion. Personally I intend to have both, hard to LAN on a bike unless you have an uber laptop :) However, travelling to Southampton for work I want to do on a bike, plus the sunny Sundays :)
